GuardianAngel,

VERY WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will always come back to their marketing.

I just does not make sense!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?

#1 Release NOS
#2 Release NOS = Title Track (Great Song for avid fans, "pretty" good song for attracking NON Priest fans)
#3 Release WAR video = WTF is this reasoning?, Marginal song compaired to the rest of the album, The video ?,.....Right I don't need to say more.......Certainly NOT gaining many fans this way.......
#4 Don't play entire album on tour (OK TOTALLY understand both pros + cons here , audience may not relate, that's realistic.
#5 Don't play NOS Title track on tour = ???
#6 Record your own Alone Vid, BBBBBBUUUUTTTTT what happened, anything since?
#6A  Release Alone Radio Edit - Is really great in current condition (But understand record company's requirements)
#6B Play Prophecy live without needed Radio edit (Cut out Rob's'lip sync talking in middle & end during live performance)
#7 Cheesy Rob cell phone vids.  Do get me wrong I love ANY Priest Fan back ground info.
#8 What no other Videos?
#9 I have more issue with their marketing, but I will save them until the 2009 tour.

Believe me I know it seems like I am being overly critical, but I want them to be MORE recognized.

No. NO..No...Uh...yes. Well first impressions by lots of people I talked to was that Nostradamus was self-indulgent & pompous. Even a terrible review here in the paper, though it was a combination review with Motley Crue's new Saints in Los Angeles. How the two even compare...Well they don't. I used to like Crue more in my teens, but I feel I've long outgrown their drugs, party & pussy themes. Priest is on a whole other level, where I don't think Crue's really evolved that much, and certainly not lyrically. They are who they are. Bless'em. That first impression by the guy writing the article didn't do Priest any favours whatsoever, at the same time RAVING about Crue's SILA. After more in depth listens, the true Nostradamus is shining through as nothing short of a masterpiece. It has a few Vegas-y moments, but this is one of my top 3 works of theirs. It's amazing and I can't get enough of it! I am actually quite happy that they released it in a double CD format and didn't cut it down to one CD, so that you can get MORE. It goes to 11. I also agree that their promotional people SUCK and I can say confidently that I never hear any Nostradamus on the radio and very RARELY ever hear JP at all. Occasionally it'll be You've Got Another Thing Coming. How sad. I will definitely see Nostradamus if they play here or near here, but I agree that it will likely not be as big a draw as their Priest Feast tour. JP are very underrated. I read in a bio about them that they keep "playing to the same 10,000 people" (or whatever the number was) and they don't know how to change that, well...Maybe better promotion and video choices. I don't know. I'll just keep raving about them to friends & family & playing the music subliminally in the background when my boys are in the van enroute to soccer practice or a mall trip! (My 4 year old is a Halford fan already & both ask for Love Bites. Reminds them of the music in Bowser's Castle in SuperMario World!)

I agree with you Udo. What I did is rip the cds to my hard drive and make a playlist in mediaplayer. That way, I can hear the album from start to finish. This way, you get the full intended effect. I must say that I like it and the few tracks I heard live kick arse.

Nostradamus is a metal masterpiece - it is art - it is perfect from the beginning to the end - it puts you back in time - it lets you take part in Nostradamus' life - it is awesome and I am glad that they want to play the album in its entirety.

Of course the next album should be something like projecting Painkiller into the 21st century but for now I'm just happy and the current album never stops to amaze me - it's like a single malt - it gets better with everyday.

Following up on my bud Hellrider's note, I hope I am NOT labeled a "Priest Nazi" just because I can honestly say that I love this album. So much so that I bought it twice. Super duper deluxe and deluxe. Do I think you or anyone else isn't a "true" Priest fan for not liking it? Hell no. To each his own. ANY Priest fan, be it their past, present or (hopefully) future music is a fan. Plain and simple. Like saying you aren't a Rob Halford fan if you don't like Two (never heard it, myself). Not a Priest fan if you didn't like the Ripper era (HATED it myself). A "traitor" to Priest if you like Halford. Of course, it is absurd. I am a much bigger fan of Halford than Fight. Does it make me any less a Priest fan that I long for the days when Halford (band) played live? I certainly hope not. Although it might (heh) not be physically possible I actually hope to hear new Halford AND Priest music.

All in all, I undertand why those who don't like the album don't like it. I am not one of them. Still, I have little doubt that a full tour playing ALL Nostra would be an absolute disaster. Play a few select venues, though, and I'll be there front and center.

Thanks .....tasnam1  for the possitive vote!

I enjoy all the various posts on this JP website.......There are a lot of passionate fans for PRIEST!  Dispite any mistakes we  think the band or their management have made we have to be thankful we have a true Heavy Metal band that keeps crankin out fist-pumping music and concerts! When anyone around the world talks about heavy metal, JUDAS PRIEST is first name that always comes to mind.  And that's a good thing!

Although NSTRDMS is Very Good, it is no Mindcrime. Also, are people still watching videos (they way they used to) of the new albums when released? Isnt that passe' (sp?) with the whole other realm of video now Youtube etc... I think most fans are looking for the live stuff nowadays anyway. It would be great if they did release something live from the old days and include the new on a DVD. You know what? The old footage I am speaking of, simply does not exist. There is no JP - "unvaulted treasure" of live early stuff (Tours: Rocka Rolla, Sad Wings, Sin after Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, POE etc...) on video.. Sad isnt it?MSyrup

Jaydee,

I want to meet you!

You and I think 100% alike.

EVERYTHING you mention in your post is accurate.

I am a 100% Priest fan, but I am tired of this band's management closing doors for this band and not allowing them to get to the level they do deserve.

The poor video choice/song releases have made me sick over the last 22 years (I'm including RID (1 video ????) & Turbo (Reckless??)).

I could go on and on.   I am gad Jaydee at least some one out in www.land thinks like me; I'm not "ALONE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.  Don't get me started on AOR releases.....

So I suppose my new song featuring all masculine voiced fricatives (rather than perfect rhyme) is going to be dead in the water, eh? DAMN! Took me forever to come up with lines ending with such rhyming words as:

grave - reprieve
cause - whiz

Understood and appreciated, metalmaz. Look, I do not expect everyone to love the new album. As I mentioned, it is what it is. It is certainly not one of my top three, but I like it. Anyway, I think the larger issue is Priest and who they are. What they have accomplished. Nostradamus is far from a flop, in my humble opinion. More importantly, Judas Priest are still relevant and far FAR more talented than just about ANY metal band of the last ten years.

I'm one of the Nostradamus haters, but I certainly don't disagree with your last post.
[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, October 08, 2008 3:11:53 PM
It is very difficult for me to believe we are still debating the "worthiness" of the new album. Jay makes some good points regarding the Band's marketing of late, but it is hard for me to accept that Priest are accused of poor effort or sub-par material. The album is what it is. More importantly, Priest remain viable after nearly 40 years of music. 40 years! I  can almost guarantee you that the aforementioned "younger", "fresher" bands will not be able to claim that kind of longevity. That is a fact.

Judas Priest may not sell out stadiums like they once did, but it is certainly not because of Nostradamus. The "masses" are too busy lauding the so-called genius of the likes of Kid Rock and others of his ilk that would rather dub other people's music and change the words than actually write something original. Rhyming "bitch" with "itch" takes very little talent, my friends. Gluing gold to ones front teeth does not make one a genius. Claiming to be from the "street" does not equate to musical talent.

Unfortunately, musical success is still based on earnings and somehow joined with the word "talent" with very little foundation for use of the word. It is far easier to get some kid to buy an album with corpses and guns on the cover than it is to actually be talented.
[JayDee  Jepsen] Wednesday, October 08, 2008 1:54:36 PM
Look. The majority of us agree that Nostradamus great cd by Priest and should have a huge amount more attention if it weren't Priest shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to marketing. Example: One of the best tools for marketing is a quality video of your strongest songs followed by playing those songs on tour to support the video thus creating more demand from the fans. JP has not made a quality video since 1990's Painkiller and Touch of Evil,, some 18 years ago. AOR's Revolution(not JP's strongest song on the cd)had a half-ass video of the song "dubbed" over existing concert footage. The best AOR songs = no video + the single "Worth fighting For" = no video. JP release Nostradamus via the net(good move)but no video! JP release "Visions" as first single-no video, JP make a ok-at-best animated vdeo for "War" (not jp's best song on the cd). Non of these songs or other good songs like "Alone", "Persecution" were played on their tour.. WTF!? For an album that they are soooo proud of you would never know it by how they marketed it. It's almost like a child with so much potential if it weren't neglected. The "downfall of priest" is not Nostradamus; it's the lack of commonsense marketing of their good material & choice of tour support that have eroaded cd and ticket sells over the last 18 years and brought Priest to a sad place of no more Gold and Platinum albums and sold out shows in the US. let's be honest-Motorhead, Testament, Queensryche(2005) are not up to Priest standards. there are many other, better, young fresh bands who would be better concert draws... Sorry for the long winded writing but I'm passionate about Priest and their music and equally frustrated by the lack of much deserved success! JayDee

Come on boys and girls, this is one of the best metal albums EVER!
[metalmaz] Wednesday, October 08, 2008 11:01:16 AM
Well I've tried so hard to like it. But quite frankly to me, it's the worst ever album with Halford on vocals.

The vast majority is turgid, pompous, overblown and boring. What has happened to one of the greatest metal bands ever?  They've turned into Andrew Llloyd Webber. A sad demise indeed.

Halford solo material is far superior.

No doubt the "Priest nazis" will start whinging "You're not a true fan" and all that crap.

I will be going to see them when they play England next year, because I still love them. (But not Nostradamus)

I think it would take more than one dodgy album to take down a band like Priest, as the presence of you good people here shows.

They would probably have far fewer fans if they had just made a few good albums back in the 80s and then carried on doing variations on those songs- we wouldnt be listening to Painkiller for a start

Is it just me or has anyone noticed JP managment has not announced any Nostradamus worldwide sales figures? I remember shortly after AOR was released management announced a '500,000 and counting' worldwide figure.  It's seems tragically JP's Nostradamus hasn't even hit the 500,000 mark worldwide. Nostradamus is such a good cd.
I'm amazed that Judas Priest has not made aquality video for any of their strongest Nostradamus songs "Nostradamus,Percecution, Alone, etc....-and no, "War" was not one of their strongest songs on the cd and certainly a marginal video as best. In fact JP has not made a good video since "Painkiller" and "Touch of Evil" in 1990, some 18 years ago!
Just some observations.

It seems thats what alot of people are doing is comparing this album to previous albums. What people arent getting is that Priest will never put out another Sad wings of Destiny, Screaming for Vengence or Painkiller. Judas Priest have always searched for a new sound with each album, and over the decades they've gotten heavier and heavier. Now adays bands are pushing to be the most hardcore heavy they can possibly be, and trying to out due the hardcore from other bands and its really gotten lame. Priest has come along way from the late 60's through 70's to really defining what the true "metal' sound was. Blasting through the 80's at BREAK NECK speed, to well sadly crash in the early 90's.Judas Priest continued without the Priest in my opinion until 2004 when he unearthed his throne. Priest has taken metal everywhere, and for a change they wanted to do something big, huge and very musical. Like how Craptallica did the orchestra shit, but Priest did it balls out. Sure alot of the album is slow and balladful, but that was what the album was about, a dude's life. Love, life and death. I honestly think the next album will return to the Heavier sound once again, but they chose to explore through a concept album. And id definetly see this in a concert if i had the chance!

with judas priest it is always like that: after the first listening - "what the fuck is that?", after the second - "oh, that's not so bad" anf after that you just can't stop listening.... He he, JP is not for everyone as I like to say... :-)

[shyster] Thursday, September 04, 2008 9:42:27 AM
Well i just listened to all the songs for the first time and i have to say im pretty disappointed. JP is and has been my favorite band for 25 years now and when they came out with A.O.R. i couldnt have been happier that they were back together. And then when the album KICKED ASS, I was beside myself. Saw them in concert. Was freakin awesome......But this album? How can anyone say an opera like album kicks ass? This album isnt even close to Sad Wings Of Destiny  .A.O.R was some heavy shit with a few good slow songs thrown in.This album is some opera shit with a few good heavier( not heavy) tunes thrown in. Anyway i just hope this isnt their last album. I do like the songs "Alone", "Nostradamus", "Persecution"and "relevations". But hey, there is definitely some new priest songs to listen to, which is better than nothing.I just hope they go back to heavy again on their next one. Rock on .................

I'd hate to be one of you that doesn't like the album. Cranked that shit earlier today and it kicked my ass in many different ways. What a great fucking album. PRIEST!!! (I've seen Priest in concert now ) Chill out, open your mind(hard for some adults) and feel the POWER of Nostradamus-damus-damus-damus,
[.] Saturday, August 30, 2008 4:58:50 AM
Musically, I can't complain at all. It was something JP wanted to do for a while and they did it and I really enjoy it from begining to the end and I really liked the fact that there were G.A. tickets in with the record.
My only desire is for their next album to break the speed barrier, as the pace of this album is definitely slower, because it's so long - not that it is bad in any way.
My favorites vary with each listen. Right now my fav is Persecution (it's a song about people who bitch a lot, did you know that?), other times is Conquest, other times ...
Can't force anybody to like it, and my intention when replying isn't to force you to like it, but thanks to this album which took 3 bloody f***king years to come out, JP has been touring and many tickets were as simple and as cheap to get as buying the cd. Of course not for the venue in OKC, but that's ok.
[DemonCat] Saturday, August 30, 2008 12:40:42 AM
No apology necessary. I respect every one's opinion, and I certainly don't "hate" anyone. I was disagreeing with your comment on what Judas Priest should be about. That's for them to decide. As for the rest of my post...I'll pick Judas Priest over any other band still recording new music that's out there. With the exeption of a non-forseen Pink Floyd CD. Nostradamus is a damned good biography of his life, and perhaps what he was feeling during his life. Even JP members have said it may not be for everyone, and warned us it was a different direction musically. I'm not one of those saying it's their best, in fact I'm not sure where I rank it. My favorite will always be Sad Wings of Destiny, and Turbo 2nd, but that's just my opinion, and for personal reasons.

No way.I've listened to this album about 12 times all the way through, and trying to give it a chance...but it just keeps getting worse and worse....its much worse than the first time I listened to it. This is not heavy metal as a whole....95% of this album is an opera....sprinkled with a touch of soft rock.  I'm not here to bash the band....but I am not afraid to voice my opinion...no matter how many people hate me for it.....and in my opinion...Nostradamus is not a good album with only 2 maybe 3 tracks out of 23 that are worth remembering.Sorry.

I think, i'll start a thread asking which albums/c.d.'s you loved from song one, to end of the album/c.d.! Because off-hand i can't think of more then a hand full myself. Is this c.d. one of them? No! That's my opinion. Depends on the type of Judas Priest fan you are? Have you listened once or twice and made an opinion, or have you listened a bit deeper and understood just what the message you were to recieve was recieved? I didn't get it at first,i thought, this isn't anything i've ever heard from these guys? But then i listened again and again, each time alittle deeper, and low and be-hold, i got it! Now i'll admit it's not my favorite priest c.d.. but it has a life of it's own,a sound of it's own. I guess what i'm trying to say is... don't use previous material from the band to compare this c.d. to! If you do, chances are you'll not like it. Is it a 10, no way.  A 7.0-7.5, isn't to far off, if you open you ears, and mind... In the end, no this isn't the downfall of Priest.

I couldn't dis-agree with you more. Judas Priest decides what they are about. Should this course they have chosen become their style of "Heavy Metal Opera" music...then I am going along for the ride. I personally didn't want anything that we've heard before. They've already perfected that style of music, and the resiliance of all their previous works speak for themselves. As shall Nostradamus in the years to come. The next project may be even more different than this, or anything else, and I will embrace it with open arms, and mind as well.

I love Judas Priest, but this is really not the direction they should be heading. Why are there 10 ballads on this album............I think they have "over-done-it" with the  "Nostradamus" album.Judas Priest is not about "Opera"......they should be about "Heavy Metal",and thats what they have left behind for this album as a whole......will they ever be back with a vengeance"??????

I agree with the title of this thread because I think it makes sense.

I love Judas Priest and I have for nearly 30 years.....they are my all time favorite band and I appreciate the 100% effort they put into the Nostradamus album........but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I think that if they were to follow this format in any way shape or form, then this could very well be "The Downfall Of Judas Priest" .......in my opinion.  If that means I'm not a Priest fan to any of you, then so be it....I'm not a Priest fan then,ok by me. I am not an "opera fan"....I am not a "music" fan....I am a "metal fan". And to me,Nostradamus as a whole is not "metal".
Have fun on the corner of "butthurt and bent".

I had reservations about this recording which I spoke about on here some time ago.  But I have to say after listening to this countless amounts of times now, driving my kids and my sweetie crazy with it,  that this is the BEST recording that this band has ever done.

A lot of us were looking for an album of Painkillerish barn burners.  A lot of us were expecting the natural order, Priest wise, to AOR but what we got people was a piece of perfection that takes Priest into a direction that none of us was expecting.  This music has moods, modes, it flows perfectly.  I am somewhat taken aback to the writing of this music.  I knew tipton and downing to be excellent songwriters but this completely is beyond my expectations.

This recording give us Priest fans everything we could have wanted from them.  I dont know how this can be topped......

Oh and this thread is dumb....
[PRIESTMAN] Tuesday, August 12, 2008 12:43:13 PM
Long time True Priest fans know and accept what Priest has done with Nostradamus  as we did with any of their other releases and New fans after listening to old Priest music will too. The CD debut #11 on the charts that's got to say something. Priest  have in many ways  tried to be the cutting edge and in most cases have. Downfall of Priest? No ! Opening a new genra in Metal? Maybe! Priest has survived for 38 years total from the day KK and Ian decided to put the band together and I really don't see an end in site for Priest. Long live Judas Fucking Priest

[Justin Kenny] Monday, July 28, 2008 10:43:27 AM
It still eludes me how some fans just haven't absorbed the idea that Priest are a band that are about CHANGE....is it any wonder that no two Priest albums sound alike (the only possible exception being the similarities in style and approach between  "S.F.V"  and  "D.O.T.F")?      Granted...everyone's opinions are going to be just that...opinions...but I still get a twinge of discontent when I see some fans bringing up  "Painkiller"  as the cornerstone of all things Priest  and the absolute standard  by which any/all future Priest-releases will be measured.      Priest are all about taking risks and leaps of faith when it comes to what they create...consequences be damned.    It hasn't hurt them TOO goddamn much...clearly....they're still at it...fans by the thousands are still attending their shows (evidenced by the reviews I've read and the numbers, however approximate--have been stated),  and most importantly...the band STILL looks extremely happy and honored to be in front of their faithful  night after night.     They've never been media darlings...they've never made a tremendous commercial stink about ANYTHING they've done...at this juncture, they know that those who want  to be there most will show up.

Furthermore...at this stage of the game...Priest have nothing to apologize for....nor WILL they.    So...if you're that disgruntled about  "NOSTRADAMUS,"   and you think Priest owe you something for such a shortcoming or  "..downfall"  ...you've  got  one,  long-ass wait.

Being Judas Priest means never having to say you're sorry (speaking strictly in terms of creativity).

There are three threads that are discussing the same topic about the new album.
(Downfall of priest, Review of new album, and what do you think)

I propose merging them into one.

I do not believe "The downfall of Priest" is an accurate thread in ANY way since I don't believe it will be even close to their downfall.

I would love to continue this discussion but I am tired of jumping to each of these threads and posting (and reading) the discussion in tandom.

I will stop posting on the "down fall thread" - but which topic should we continue on?

In all honesty, I cannot blindly say that the fans posting before me (and I have NO doubt of their loyalty to the Almighty Priest) do not hit a chord with their comments ... pun intended. I pondered similar thoughts in the 80s, 90s, and now.

Now I don't think anyone posting on the site here that is worth their salt as a fan could argue that Priest isn't the greatest Metal band on this earth. Hell, I LIVE for Priest and am thinking of driving 20+ hours in two consecutive weeks to see them. Still, I have also questioned the decisions of the promotion team around them. Left me scratching my head more than banging it more than once in my life.

No doubt in my mind. This is the greatest band in the world, metal or otherwise. I do agree that they have been "mishandled." I am just really glad to have been one who "caught on" early and never let go. KISS has one on the market, I want a friggin' PRIEST coffin! Bury my JP guitars with me, all I ask...

I love Priest but I don't understand and maybe never will why they put so much (blood, sweat, tears) in to an album then stick their collective heads in the sand when it comes to common sense marketing and promoting their own material. I sense a bit of arrogance on the part of the band when you listen to their interviews. I would says management has the only power of persuasion to know some sense in to JP and obviously they fell short.

My guess is an outside producer would have recommended shorter songer and a 12-14 track cd vs a 23 track filled with an overkill of slow intros. this is what happens when you don't work with quality outside people-you get tunnel vision- and hurt yourself.  Motley Crue, Metalica etc have always had top producers and play their top songs during their concerts and what happens??????????? they have great cd sales!  JP hasn't had a top producer since '90's Painkiller and never plays their best songs on tour... the cd sales or lack there of speak for themselves.

I love Priest but find myself scratching my head all the time at the stupid things they do.  Look! of all songs to make a video of, they make a cartoon video of "war"??? VS 'Alone', 'Visons' or  'Nostradamus'-arguably their best song on the cd- (hello title track)- release "Visons" as a single but no video and no play during concerts???  Play 'death' over Nostradamus at concerts?

Hey there. I made very similar comments to all of yours when AOR came out [ excluding references to Revolution which I adore, even if the vocal is a little strained in parts]. The War video is terrible, the song is passable but they would never play it live because arguably there are no real instruments on it. Sounds like keyboards , sequencers and a drum machine to me [ not that I care, just making the point]. Visions is a poppier sounding track, probably the best shot at getting some airplay. I agree Alone would have been a better single/video. The song is a clear winner, just scroll through these postings and its probably mentioned in 2 out of 3. The band would be wise to harness this interest/popularity and push the song to rock radio. It is a little long but they could do a radio edit. I also agree that they need to play at least one more song from the album in the setlist, and I also agree that they should substitute Death for Alone or Persecution, would also have preferred Nostrodamus to Prohecy. I wonder if this is all down to tuning and production reasons [ not to mention Robs desire for theatricality!]. I remember Ripper saying they could never do Cathedral Spires live due to the fact they tune their instruments to a certain level [ someone here will know what I mean!] Still hoping that by the Auckland show they will beef up the set maybe with LAM , Revolution or Deal with ... , and maybe one more Nostrodamus song, but not holding my breath [ and who cares anyway?] 42 sleeps to go ... don't break a leg guys!
[tasnam1] Saturday, July 26, 2008 4:16:47 PM

You and I don't know if was skimping on money.
It could have just been a "personal fulfillment goal" to produce their own album.

Regardless, when you have a critically accaimed project like PAINKILLER (that seems to get MORE respect as time goes on), wouldn't you repeat the same formula?

Perhaps they couldn't get along with Chris?
I remember an inteview on Behind the music with Def Leppard and they said they dreaded working with Mutt Lang - but they did it anyway and look at the sales result and quality result in the end.

Either way (regardless of producer - which is not my biggest beef here) what they "push" to the public is always "against the grain".  They become their own worst enemy from a marketiing stand point.
I am a DIE HARD FAN.  I will listen to everything and admire them and their work - they don't have to win ME over on each album.

I am rooting for them to be bigger, and to attract those that are on the fence or not even fans at all.
Sometimes THEY close that door themselves with their marketing ideas.
(These could be outside decisions - perhaps out of their control - I don't know)

I completely get and agree with your assesment about change in management.  you would think the things we talk about would be common sense.
1. why release "visions" as a single but no video? don't play it on tour? Why a half ass video like "war" vs quality production of Nostradamus?
2.JP released "worth fighting for from AOR but never played it on tour except in Japan.
3. why skimp with money and produce the record yourself vs having a quality ourtside producer. Tom Allmon, Chris T- after that down hill and down in sales
4. why only play 1 intro and 2 ok songs (current tour) from Nos. vs playing 5 + of the cd's strong songs? Their actions say they're afraid of what the crowd wants.
5. you release a single but don't play it-so people don't request it on the radio?
6. start the Nostradamus internet promo with title song but don't play it live. that's one of their best songs! They should have that as the OPENER to the show! that would grab the audience much better than "dawn of creation"
7. drop "Death" and play "ALONE" which is 10x a better song.

To sump it up, in some ways they've taken great chances musically and made fantastic songs then fplay safe and fuck up on the basics of promoting.. I can't imagine how JP is expecting future success with a 'full Nostradamus concert' when they blow the current tour opportunity to pump the audience up for the cd by only playing 1 intro and 2 ok songs from the new cd?

Jaydee,

You are correct on much of your post.  I am a die hard fan would love to see them bigger and more popular then they are/have been.

Some things they do make me scratch my head.

I don't know if it is their marketing company (like Jayne Andrews)? or them personally.
From my understanding they have been with her/marketing manager for years.

There sometimes(not always) is some benefit in swtiching "vendors" from time to time to get a fresh perspective on your business.  (Painkiller producer speaks for itself)

And remember this is a business.
I know most people don't want to think that way since it takes some fun emotion out of it, but if you have seen interviews from any rock band or performer, they will always tell you in interviews at some point you have to 'grow up'{paraphrased} and treat it like a business.

Again, though some things they do make me scratch my head.
The singles they have always picked seem to be off the mark compared to other GREAT options on the albums - and this is an on going issue for them
(Revolution vs. Deal w/Devil or Demonizer)
(Not pushing RecklessOut in the Cold from Turbo)
(Pushing WAR to the MTV world (which the song is just ok "a 5/10" - the video sucks) vs. Alone or Persecution)
(Not releasing a second Video off Ram it Down - like Heavy Metal) (BTW - I like Johnny B. Goode, but it was not enough from the album)
(Don't go video vs. Desert Plains)

I could go on, but you get the idea.

[JayDee  Jepsen] Friday, July 25, 2008 5:01:01 PM
I just saw the JP in Seattle and over all is was a awesome show! However I noticed some, what I would consider. errors in judgment on the part of the band that would affect the sales of Nostradamus.
First very few people know the band has a new cd because there's no radio support. JP only played 3 songs from the new cd and they weren't even the best songs. For example "death" should have been dropped and substituted for "percecution", nostradamus", "alone", & "visions". JP needs to play to the cd's strengths and let the crowd know which new songs are from Nostradamus. The whole night Rob never mentioned once that they had a new cd or talked about it with the crowd- just  a Nostradamus banner.   In the old days Rob always talked about the new cd and told the crowd what songs are from the new cd AND played all the GOOD songs, vs some of the "B" songs....

Just an observation but jp should deffinitely have the title track in the set list. Also if you have a video,"War", it would be a good idea to put that in the setlist and promote it... If you're going to have a full Nostradamus show-TOUR- then it's a good idea to 'prime the pump' on this tour with all the great new songs and not just a few ok songs.

I feel JP could have trimmed some of the slow intros and made this into a 'trimmed down' 1 disk cd to keep the total cd tempo up and have as good or better product to enjoy. This isn't my favorite JP cd but I really appreciate and like some of the songs. it's my opinion that Priest would have been better served to have brought in a top producer to add a quality 'outside imput' and guide the cd to more success. If you notice Priest had Tom Allmon, Chris Tsangarides(Painkiller-last sucessful JP cd) and then went down and ultimately away from a quality outside producer. KK and Glenn are good but I think they got too 'tunnel vision' and miss important opportunities because they wanted to save money.

Motley Crue had Bob Rock on their latest cd and it's doing well, Metalica has always used a quality producer and their success speaks for itself.  A quality "outside"producer isn't everything but sure helps. Lack of radio airplay has always been a killer for priest tunes!

Great White, no one is going to bash you for making an intelligent posting (whether it's agreed with or not).  If you state something in a nasty manner or out of plain ignorance, then yes, bashing will occur.  A great example of why bashing would occur is by looking at the beginning of this thread.  Read the first couple of pages of it.  There are a ton of good reasons why the person who started this thread got bashed for their comments.  On the flip side, people here do seem to in fact, respect those who do not care for a particular JP album(s).  For example, I refuse to listen to any of the Ripper-era material b/c it's not Rob on vocals.

J.D. Diamond, I have to agree with you ever so strongly about not hearing Rocka Rolla on the new album.  I made myself listen to it just to hear if there was any sound similiar to the early material.  I don't what they're hearing, but there isn't anything remotely similar to the early Priest on the new album.  Queensryche, another Metal band that I enjoy, tried the metal opera stuff too, too much in fact.  So much that most of the fans they had quit listening because they went off the deep end.  I don't mind Priest trying new and inventive material, but I pray they don't continuously pump out metal opera's from now on.

Even though I don't like this album it doesn't make me any less a fan than I was before this album came out.  I didn't get the bands name tattoo'd on me for the hell of it you know.  Funny, I remember back in the early eighties going to priest concerts and it seemed to me that I was the only female fan there, all until Turbo came along, then every chick that was out there jumped on the wagon and went to the concert.  I was disgusted because they were all fake fans and sure shit, when Priest went back to the style they were really known for all the "fans" that came with turbo, with the odd exception, all of a sudden weren't fans anymore.  Priest could put out any sort of album and I'd still stand by them, I might not like it, but I'm such a hard core fan, I'll never fall by the wayside.

Live it will be awesome. I don't think any fan will disagree there, like the album or not. Wait and see.

Faarrr!!! Downfall is a bit drastic!!!  We all love JP or we wouldn't be here wasting our time and energy reading and posting comments about them and their music.  The Downfall of priest won't happen from an album being good or bad....no no no...not while all us dedicated fans are here to buy the next album and the next!  ...cos you know what.....we all will!!!  And many if not most of us have little people who now cherish JP too....like my 13 year old son who is coming with me to the concert! Yes Yes Yes.
