Is metal more popular overseas than in the US? If so, why?

Ron H, it's great to hear that there still are some hardcore fans out there!

Keep the Faith, stay Metal and worship the Priest!

I don't know if he was a church goer or not. He was definitely rough around the edges. After the second tale of dead animals I began to wonder  about the veracity of  his cougar sightings.

After someone I lived with (nope, not me) fed some chicken bones to our dog, in the summer, not noticing the dog was dead for one day or so until it began to smell, and having to dispose of the rotting creature whose bits were dripping away to the woods with the bucket of the tractor along with the doghouse, since then I can't stand to see dead dogs.
I have to say it's very death gore metal in a typical american way.

What I find really sick is the latest "Chupacabra" catch, by some taxidermist in TX. That specimen is a dog. It might very well be a bald dog, but the
breed exists, and it has a name. Xole is the shortened version of it's long name. It was just a scared hungry dog, he poinsoned.

Everyone knows that my hope in life is that the gates of paradise are guarded by animals.

That guy is probably a good "Church goer" too. Sad and I really hope he is attacked by the ghost cougar / chupacabra some day.

It makes me sick to my stomach to have to agree with you that America is so commercialized!!!!  At the same time, it's also what helped commercialize Metal in the late 70's and 80's..."if American's will buy it...." but I'll put "our" core Metalheads with "yours" anytime!!!  Metalheads, I would argue, are the most loyal fans world wide!!!!!!!!  Keep the faith, Izzystone!!

You're right, it's the Chupacabra, not the animal owner who wants to get rid of unwanted and mistreated animals.

Metal is way bigger in Europe. I don't know why, but maybe it's because of the commercialized culture in US, and Europe has built an enormous metal scene the last thirty years, while US has become more and more commercail. And remember that metal was born in England, and British Metal is still the best!
[guidogodoy] Saturday, September 05, 2009 9:14:53 PM
Oh, THAT was a chupacabra, no doubt! Puerto Rico, Cuba, México are full of them. I even hear that they caught one recently. Nope. Chupacabras are to blame.

Hi Guido...I don't think bugs are the scariest creatures in the countryside: I think ghost cougars are the scariest. A neighbor of mine once had an old horse that somehow "unfortunately" tripped and fell into a ditch and died. Now the neighbor blamed it on a cougar stalking the animal and kept pointing at some puncture wounds on the dead animal and some cat paws nobody seemed to recognize...perhaps because there are no cougars in the region. Biggest cat is a bobcat, lots of wild domestics, racoons, skunks and deer.
Quite scary that ghost cougar, don't you think?
That neighbor was haunted, of course. Lots of his animals kept dying from strange occurrences...the older the nag, the greater the risk of death by ghost cougar...or accidental falls.

Beware of ghost cougars.

Well thanks Becks and now I'm going to go totally off subject and ask you, as I am ordering new shoes, put the JP shoes on from last year just for a Hoot and they felt wonderful!
Now, My delima! Should I go with just PRIEST down the back of the shoe, or should I cram creativity into it and spell KKDOWNING down the back spine? They are already on to what I wrote last year, which was THE PRIEST, and  I'm not able to get that again.
Give me some input! As I'm ordering them in leather this time and cant wait to have them on my tootsies!

Interesting topic!
Spa is right, it can be difficult to get around Europe - especially if the country you are going to is either not in the EU or is part of the eastern block.
I think all over the world there is a solid core of metal fans - we all know a true metal supporter is so for life! I know that even though the 'popular' music here in NZ at the moment is stupid hip hop bullshit, but  there are plenty metal fans here too! But it is a long way for a band to travel, to come and play for us. And our population compared to other countries is miniscule, only 4 million.
[spapad] Saturday, September 05, 2009 1:55:22 PM
Wow that is a beutiful sight! I'll add that to the neverending lists of places I would love to see before I die!

Yes, I know all about the discount stores clientel. They are sometimes suprisingly scary! Saw a man on one of those scooters with amputated legs one time, and I swear his girth still must have weighed in at 400 pounds sans legs! That little cart must have been laboring under his weight! Would not suprise me if the battery died on him before his shopping was done and he had to ring for a back up! Sad really, as if it was not for his head he seemed as though he could just roll where ever he needed to go. I would laugh, but it's not funny.

speaking of you and guido bemoaning your circumstances I was in a discount store yesterday.  you can tell its a good discount store if the people there make you think that walmart shopers are atractive.  the woman with a bald spot, 1 tooth (I didnt peer to far into her mouth but I could see 1 and it was wide open) was not the least atractive shoper.  you also got to love it when some people dress such that a cheap hooker on a streetcorner looks more respectable.

at least I am in a city of 1 milion (or right outside)

and I am three hours from a real waterfall,  niagra is ok, but this is awesome.

takakawa (sp) falls BC.  3.5 hours away from me.  396 feet I think.

Oh my God, and me and Guids bemoan our circumstances! That is a hell of a long ways! When I was going to Florida last year each time I saw Canada plates I wondered just how long had they traveled? When I lived in Northern VA, I once thought on a whim I would drive to the Niagra Falls, but then I saw it was 18 hours away and decided that was too much for a weekend whim. LOL

yeah, to go to one recorded would be cool.  10 hours would not get me to a major US city, unless you were to count great falls as major.  didnt think so.  think 12 hours would get me to seatle.

I would have cringed at 10 hours as well, UNLESS the Management would have told us about the Hollywood, FL show then I would have drove the 10 hours with not a single complaint! Damnit.  Must not be any Major US cities right under your part of Cananda? Shame. Sorry!  I do miss the 80's when bands went EVERYWHERE!

yep.  if they were within a 10 hour drive of me I might have considered it.  but the closest this year I got was 22 hours to colorado.  but... what should I do?  sure a shit if I moved to somewhere they have never missed they would never go back.  plus to stay in canada that would mean living in toronto.  prison would be better

Not to be whining but the entire southern US east coast was missed last year. Except the one show at Bristow, VA.
They have not played NC, SC, in so long I think the last time they were there was turbo? Alabama, Mississippi and Louisianna can forget about it! They would have to to to Texas, TN or GA. Florida got a few shows this year and one in GA, but that's it. If your a fan, and live in these parts, well you simply have to face facts that travel will always be a part of it.
