Thanks, Becks! I'm still flying from Tuesday night. Every night when I go to bed, I keep trying to re-live the whole concert. I don't want to forget anything, or lose a single detail. But now I'm kinda down, too, because for months I had this incredible thing to look forward to, and every day was bringing me closer to the it, but now....now we all have to wait for that rush to come round again... There are no FREAKING words to descrive the forever life-changing evening I spent with JP last night. Where to begin -
Thin Lizzy kicked ASS big time. Thoroughly enjoyed them. Those boys can rock. Got a guitar pick, too!
Black Label Society. Lots of talent, but not my cup of tea. Zakk is an INSANE guitarist, but it's not melodic to my ears, just a whole lot of violent thrash, which has its appeal to lots of fans, but not me. And seriously dude - what's with the spitting?????
So, after the last stage changes, Battle Hymn starts, and Priest comes out. I don't know what to say. Our seats were front row floors, on the right side, so I spent the evening gettting to know Glenn, who was pretty much parked in front of us when he wasn't bopping around the stage. It's hard to describe everything - it really was like I was in a crazy dream (and no, I wasn't stoned!!!!)
Ian - man he can rock - and he is still beautiful!! He was too far back to see that well over the speakers, unless I was on my tiptoes, but at one point while Ritchie was doing his solo, and everyone was looking stage left, Ian was just strumming and keeping the bass rhythm going, I started waving frantically to him and he noticed my arms and turned to look at me. Every pair of eyes is on Ritchie at this point, but I'm screaming "IAN!!!! IAN!!!!" and he starts laughing.
Scott - WHAT AN ANIMAL!!!!!!!!! I don't know what blew me away more - his machine-like precision or his bare arms. I don't know how he does it.
Ritchie - OK, he's not KK, but the boy can play. He fit in beautifully, and there was a great dynamic between him and Glenn, and strangely, I found he could pass for Glenn's son. Kudos to him for stepping into KK's shoes, and for looking quite happy about being up there with the rest of the Gods. But, truthfully, I did miss the dynamic I've seen in many a concert video, between KK and Glenn.
Glenn........GLENNNNN!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! From the moment he came out, I went berserk! I can't believe that this rockstar that I have idolized for YEARS was like arm's length away from me. He is unbelievable!!! He loves what he's doing, STILL, and it is sooo apparent. He loves his fans, too, and we were freaking out that he was that close and could see what we were saying - I yelled out GLENN I LOVE YOU!!!!!! and he winked at me, I thought I was going to DIE!!!!!! He was there right in front of us the whole night. I don't think I've even processed this yet...and it feels so surreal. He is a freaking axe-wizard extraordinaire. It was just like I dreamed, but BETTER! I could have watched him forever. I'm still feeling a little nuts right now!
Rob. ROB HALFORD! Holy Shit! What can you say????? I thought I was going to pee myself or cry hysterically when I first looked at him. But I behaved. Here he was - my IDOL....and he's still got it. That voice is like magic. Sure, he's aged, and the voice has changed, but he nailed everything he did. I loved how he talked between some of the songs. Does he ever own the stage when he's out there. He didn't spend a lot of time on our side of the stage, but he put on a hell of a show - the costume changes, the Harley....The audience was nuts, absolutely nuts for him. When Breaking the Law started, my husband's like - "Doesn't he sing this any of this song?" The crowd was bouncing and banging like an ocean storm. I was so glad about the setlist - got to hear Heading Out to The Highway live, and The Sentinel, etc,...there were some things I really missed, like most of DOTF and SFV, and TYRANT (Rob - next time, please!!!!) but maybe next time. The 2 hours and change went by so quickly, I couldn't believe when YGATC started, and then LAM, and then it was over. I almost thought about jumping the stage when they were all holding hands together for the final bow...but then Glenn jumped down to give out picks, and when he got to me and handed it to me, he held on to my hand for a moment, looked into my eyes, and then I blew him a kiss and he blew it back! My hubby let me have my teenage moment without any grief, which was AWESOME!
Will I see them again? Damn right I will, come hell or high water. If I had the money, I'd follow them across the globe for the whole tour. They're in Quebec for the next 2 nights.....hmmmmmm, that's only 6 hours drive or so...... But really - best night of my life. I'm just sorry I waited so long. God Bless those boys, and I just want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for keeping me young, and keeping a song in my heart. Love you boys forever!

Hey HRMG and Acolyte - shucks, you two are bringing tears to my eyes right now! My biggest wish is that they do come back...if they don't, I don't know what I'll do. This was just a taste. I know at some point they have to hang up their gear, but I just truly hope that it ain't anytime soon. I pray that after the tour and a well-deserved break (albeit SHORT!!!!) they hit the studio and start recording again. WHEN (not IF) they tour again - I wish we could all go together. There's nothing like going with other Priest fans who love 'em like we do!!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS from Wednesday, November 23, 2011 2:56:22 PM)

LOLOL, Heimda11! So true. Only drawback is, while the first 2 do help , they then cause their own problems that need a-fixin'. So far music is the only thing that produces no nasty side effects. Unless you throw your back from headbanging too violently. Been there, done that. Martha's just about ready for the rocking chair .

Dear Hellrider:
I am so disappointed, and truly sorry to tell you that I spoke to my cop-acquaintance this afternoon and relayed your story to him. He proceeded to tell me that there was nothing to be done about the situation. Basically, your glove WAS a weapon in their minds and in the rule-books. The fact that they confiscated it without persuing anything meant that apparently, they did YOU a favour - had they written anything up, it would've gone through dispatch, and they could have hauled you downtown under arrest. He said this way they just confiscated the WEAPON, and let you off without you getting in a heap of trouble. I tried to plead your case, but dude had attitude about it...then informed me that the glove was most likely destroyed without filing any paperwork to SAVE you. (??????) That was that...I told him you were just a great guy who liked to represent his metal appreciation in his clothing and style and wouldn't hurt a fly...but it all fell on deaf ears. I was so pissed it wasn't funny. Needless to say, I'm not going to bother calling on him if I ever need help for ANYTHING. But I am going to start carrying around my knitting needles, just to see what happens, since THEY can be seen as WEAPONS also, probably even more dangerous than a spiked glove. So very very sorry, my friend...thought I could help, but struck out big time and now have less faith in the system than I did before. People just suck moose jizz bigtime. Thought he'd have been more understanding or helpful, but dude and his posse appear to have their nuts in a vice of prolific stupidity the likes of which I've never seen or heard. Don't loose the faith though, and don't stop being the awesome metal defender that you are. Again...so so sorry.

If it helps, its directly to the right side of the stage, section 118, row 10. (I don't know if this will mean anything unless you are familiar with the layout of the Air Canada Center. But thanks for your advice, Bud. I just want to have a great time. The Spousal Unit () was afraid to get anything higher up in a balcony, because then he runs the risk of me stage-diving, landing in the drum kit and getting arrested.....hmmmmm.......still could happen if I play my cards right... I'd say that there are a few things to consider. First how close to the stage are the seats on the side.
Too close on the side gives you an obstructed view of the stage. Assume there are 5 sections on the side.
The second half of sec. 2 and sec. 3 would be ideal. You would be over top of the crowd, you would be close
enough to the stage to see everyone in the band clearly, and you would be back far enough to enjoy the
stage show. If you take the floor seats is it festival seating or reserved. If it's festival take the floor seats and
arrive early and you'd probably end up next to the stage. If it's reserved try to get in the first 5 or 6 rows or
you'll probably be constantly on the move trying to see overtop the people in front of you.If this turns out to be
the case stick with the side. You can rest, have a great view, and have a more enjoyable experience. This was today's babble from Budred. Peace!

Hey Metal12! I was wondering the very same thing...this will be my first Priest concert too, also been waiting twenty-something years for this! It could go either way - by the end, they could be warmed up and really rocking, or worn out. I'd think somewhere in the middle would be the best. Just an update - out of my original 14 strays that I've been keeping in my house (3 moms and 11 kittens, BUT 16 in total if you count my 2 cats) - 7 kittens have gone to great homes, and we have another adopt-a-thon next weekend that we are bringing the rest to. Plus I'm working on the husband about possibly keeping one of the moms...which would bring my personal pet total to 3 cats...fingers crossed!!! Next, we look for a rescue dog to add to the mix!
The wife and I shared our 18th wedding anniversary yesterday.(26 years together)
The best part is that we still get along and have as good as a relationship as we've
ever had. Hopefully we'll get at least 26 more years together.

back to spirituality....I realize that pretty much everything is open to interpretation, and your mind will go where it wants to go. Take Tyrant - song about the devil, song about an angry God pissed off at a dysfunctional world, or is it a song about anti-establishment/anti-government? Same thing with The Sentinel - good or evil? You pick. Morons like Tipper Gore et all will push their 'Satanic' agenda until the cows come home. You take the song and believe what you want...

Really, eh, HRMG!!! I fought for years with my mom about metal. I tried explaining lyrics to her, but all she heard was the crap people like Tipper Gore ranted about. I couldn't keep any metal in the house. I used to record stuff off the radio onto cassettes and then tape them to the back of my dresser. When she found my Black Sabbath tapes she went bonkers! The funny thing was that I wrote a huge paper in university on the parallels between heavy metal and late-classical period music, 16 pages including musical exerpts, and got an A+. The reason I loved Priest so much was that they never 'sexualized' women in a demeaning way. It was always about music, rockin' out and ridin' free!! I love their lyrics, to me they are some, if not THE most powerful metal lyrics out there.

HRMG - I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet boy...there is nothing as awful as coming to that point in a pet's life where you must make decisions...they truly are the most loyal and loving and honest 'friends' we could ever have. I can't imagine a world without dogs or cats. They give us so much and as for nothing in return. Just keep loving him the way you have been and hope for the best. He sounds like he has had a wonderful life with people who adored him, and that means everything, so just keep on treasuring him each day that you've got him. I'm sure he knows that whatever you decide, it is a decision made with love and respect for him. If you can and want to, post a pic of him so we can 'meet' him. They bring so much joy to our lives, don't they? I think they are the best part of us in a way - they love to play and completely enjoy life, even the simplest things make them happy. Our lives are made richer by their love and loyalty. Thank you so much for your words Spa, I can't begin to tell you how much they meant to me. Lucy is a sweetheart and she is just as lucky to have you as you are to have her. Spoiled rotten, I'm sure she is! So is mine, laying on my leather sofa right now. He still has that sparkle in his eyes and just chased a bunny the other night (one of his true joys in life!) and maybe that tweaked his leg. He'll let me know when it is time and I know it isn't time just yet. Thank heaven for Rimadyl that's all I can say. The aspirin just wasn't cutting it anymore and the vet gave us enough for a week to try and things just completely turned around. Very expensive, but his quality of life has improved dramatically and it's worth every penny and then some.

Bud, there is an odd thing about all of us. We feel we can not do pet ownership again after a loss, but then one day when you least expect it a animal captures your heart and you just can't walk away. Lucy, my dog now, did that to me. She was malnurished and looked god awful, but she was young and so sweet. I brought her home and never regreted it. I might have a few times when I had to teach a 1 year old how to toilet outside, but that was the only time. lol She's now a bit chunky, but not too fat and she's spoiled rotten. The love is just as great for her.

Doing what you may have to do is one of the worst things one has
to do. They were only cats but I had to do it three times in a two year
period and it crushed me. One was 15, one 11, and one 9. I said I
would never have pets again because of it. Of course a year later I
had another cat. I never will have more than one animal at a time
again though. It's too tough to deal with at the end. I'm really sorry
you have to deal with it now. My only advice is think of the dog more
than yourself. Don't make him suffer just to keep him around.
Take care.

Nigel Tufnel: It's part of a trilogy, a musical trilogy I'm working on in D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why. Marty DiBergi: It's very nice. Nigel Tufnel: You know, just simple lines intertwining, you know, very much like - I'm really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it's sort of in between those, really. It's like a Mach piece, really. It's sort of... Marty DiBergi: What do you call this? Nigel Tufnel: Well, this piece is called "Lick My Love Pump".
What is it with cats? My other guy, William, likes getting rubbed and petted, but there's one spot on his stomach, if you get anywhere near it, he gets really mad and slaps you. Now, he is one big cat, so when his paw comes down on you, it's like a small baseball bat. Same thing if you brush him - he likes it for about 5 or 6 minutes, purrs, gets all excited and frisky, then suddenly he gets 'the look', stands up on the back legs and belts you. Well said, Bad! Ozzy gets a dreadful and undeserved bad rap far too many times! People seem to forget that unique and unmistakable voice, (just like our Metal God Rob), like nothing anyone could ever copy! He's still one in a million in my book, whether he's an accomplished 'composer' or otherwise! And I have far too many great memories of my youth attached to his songs! Let's be controversal and go for OZZY! yknow I'm getting really tired of the bashing he gets. Remember the 80's when he was considered a god.. a living metal legend.. The madman.. the undesputed king of metal. Nobody came close (hehe dangerous words on a Priest forum but true). Then came 'that' tv show which portrayed him as a total imbecile who could barely change the channel on the tv and suddenly there's this huge backlash. It's like people were waiting for him to fall.. suddely he's an idiot, Bob and later Zakk wrote all his songs.. He can't put his socks on in the morning without Sharon telling him what to do. He's the metal goon who got lucky. BULLSHIT. Sorry but it pisses me off. Ozzy may not play a traditional rock instrument to any kind of standard, damnit he may not even write all his lyrics, but he can write a fucking good tune! So he may not be trained to tell his band to play an e flat major arpeggio then go into a g minor chord progression. But I promise you, even now.. and even on the "Kevin Churko" (SP?) project that was Scream, Ozz was in there with major input in both the music and lyrics. Sorry.. I don't buy the whole thing about him just getting lucky. Nobody has a career lasting 40 years at the very very top of their chosen profession without being incredibly talented.
Erm.. ok I ran out of words!! I once spray painted the words Ozzy Is God outside the Mayfair in Newcastle and that seems a good way to finish and press send! :;o)
Hi Nupe!
After reading your comments, I have no fears/qualms about passing over the Ripper years. I don't like the more modern metal sound (no fan of Metallica, either!) And Rob's songwriting is something that has always struck some kind of resonance with me, so, glad I didn't miss anything there! Also - while might like 2 or 3 songs by IM, I've never been enough of a fan to shell out anything for a CD or concert tickets for them. Priest all the way! The Ripper Years are quite modern-sounding compared to the classic Priest albums. They sound quite trashy, and Demolition even has a few industrial metal influences in it, lol. I don't like the more modern sound (if I did I'd be listening to Metallica) and quality-wise they're pretty much crap; they're really missing the songwriting ability of Rob. And, of course Tim uses a slightly lower range than what Rob has ever had so hat also makes it feel different.
Try before you buy, if you're asking me.
Oh, and my reply to this topic is pretty obvious. I've never ever gotten into Maiden, there's just something in their sound that I don't like. (Quoting Message by badactress from Monday, June 20, 2011 2:31:23 PM)

Love them both, but Priest is definitely the more challenging and intelligent musically of the two. Maiden are purely bombastic and chest beating one dimensional metal. Which is great! However Painkiller blows every other band away on that front, and then Priest will hit you with a crushing ballad that tears at your heartstrings.. or they'll do something crazy and uplifting that just fills you with joy. Haha ok I'm going to stop before I get carried away! I vote Priest! :)
You know what though.. I've never heard a single song.. not even one note from anything that they did with Ripper. If anyone is still reading my ramling.. Are "the ripper years" worth trying? Do they come close to classic priest? I just can't imagine Priest without Rob. My ears close up at the thought of it!!
Hey Badactress - I'm LMFAO, because, like you, I've never listened to anything from the Ripper years.......quite possible out of loyalty to Rob. To me, it just ain't Priest without him - his voice IS what Priest is to me. I'm sure there are many people that would say that's a pretty dumb way of thinking and I should give Tim Owens a chance, especially since I've been voicing my displeasure at fans who don't want to give Richie Faulkner a chance, but to me, the vocals are the first and last thing that I associate with a certain band...the music and musicians are still a hugely important part of the whole sound, but for me it's Rob or nothing! Just wondering what the deal is with ticket sales - why were we able to procure tickets to the Toronto concert when the date still hasn't been posted on JP.com?
I was reading Metal Meltdown's post in Metal Blah Blah Blah this afternoon, about how tickets for the Toronto show were already on sale even though there was no official posting of the date yet on JP.com. I was so pissed because previously (since the tour was announced) I had been checking various websites just in case this type of thing happened, but hadn't been checking lately. I figured I was pretty much screwed out of any good tickets, and the prices for really good seats (where Rob can see me clearly mouthing "I LOVE YOU FOREVER METAL GOD" LOL) were really high, for me, anyway. So I was pretty much cussing and crying in my soup that my one and only chance to ever see Priest was now most likely NOT going to happen. So my husband (who, incidentally, is not a huge metal fan like myself) gets home from work, I'm pissed and hollering and telling him all this, he turns around and says, "Surprise!!!! - Merry Early Christmas - We got tickets!!!!!" I am not ashamed to admit I actually cried! Apparently he put out the word to any and everyone he knew that "my wife absolutely HAS TO SEE THIS CONCERT" and was being really vigilant about any info coming his way about early ticket sales, and got lucky with TOTALLY AWESOME seats. So many nights he'd come home when I was complaining that there was still no Toronto date, and now this!!!!!! I'M SO FREAKIN HAPPY I COULD BURST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps - mo, 143, i love you and you are the best husband in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello, Lads! Fan of many years, this will be my first JP concert and it is something I've been anticipating for the more than half my life. Your fans are all here supporting you! I wish you all the best, and thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU FOREVER for providing me with the music that has meant so much to me, I can't imagine a world without it. Richie, welcome aboard, can't wait to hear you shred alongside the BEST METAL BAND EVER! God bless and Godspeed, and may this be your best tour yet!
Whatever you do, do NOT travel to San José, California anytime soon. There is currently a plague of mini red-eyed dragons terrorizing the city. It's hard to believe, I know, but I was there this weekend. I've seen it with my own two eyes (four, really). It's something that no normal human being should ever experience in his/her lifetime. It was the nightmare to end all nightmares. Somehow I managed to leave the city yesterday relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, my dog tag wasn't so lucky. One of the tiny little bastards sneaked into my hotel room and decided to chew on it! WHY, OH WHY???

Again, this is a warning to all travelers who are planning to visit San José, CA. Please stay away from the city (especially the downtown area) until further notice, lest you suffer the same fate as my poor dogtag.

Well said, Bud. I think the only decent thing to do is support K.K.'s decision, and support the band by giving Richie a chance to prove himself as a member of JP. It has become way too easy to rip into him - but if Rob and the boys have decided that he is a worthy replacement, then that's all I need to know. I'm sure that this was not a decision they made lightly, and they must have 'auditioned' Richie enough to agree he could fit into the monumental void K.K. left. Maybe Richie will infuse some new fire into their creativity, but we have to give it a chance first before deciding it's going to blow. As for K.K., as a 'rock celebrity' , he deserves the same freedom that us regular folk have, to make a change in his life that's good for him, whether we're pissed about it or not. Sometimes you just gotta call it a day. I hope he finds kindness, good wishes and respect when he runs into his fans, not hostility and crap.[Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Budred from Tuesday, May 10, 2011 8:04:20 PM)

Hey Bud...I also get the 'dream within a dream' thing - with the ability to control and change direction of the scenario. Maybe I learned it from 'Silent Lucidity' lol...but my favourite is always the dream about flying. The coolest thing is that nobody else in my dreams is able to fly, just me, and nobody in the dream thinks it's weird that I can. I guess one could argue that the flying dreams represent the dreamer's escape from whatever is holding them back - old garbage that hasn't been dealt with from the past, or even current stressful situations. Flying is the ultimate escape. I love the feeling - the weird thing is that it's so realistic - I can feel the air moving around me, my hair flying around me too. The other dreams I get when I am in the ' bad place' is usually doing all the things I know I can't do in real life - tell people how I really feel, get into street fights, take off with rock bands and stupid shit like that. I guess it's like a chance to experience the road not taken....

Well, first of all, this could go one of two ways: if the tour goes very well and the fan response is favourable, then JP may find it fruitful to continue pumping out stuff and touring for a few more years. Perhaps Richie Faulkner might put a fresh fire in the belly of the beast. I don't know anything about him, but maybe he's got some great musical ideas that can 'refresh' the old JP style, and more of what the fans are dying to hear. Or not. We can only wait and see. The other option is that fans will begrudge Faulkner straight off the bat because they can't imagine Priest (or Glenn) without KK and are reluctant to give him a chance, out of loyalty to KK. I think that the timing is shit, but we don't really know how long there was discord in the Priest camp. Maybe it's been a long time coming....I was pissed when I first heard about it, because this would have been my first and clearly last concert of JP, and to see them without the full line-up of talent was unthinkable. I'm kind of feeling like JP was a perfect marriage all these years, that everyone thought would last forever, then there's a sudden divorce announcement. But the bottom line is, people gotta be true to themselves and honest, and if KK and the boys were no longer enjoying a healthy, productive relationship, both musically and personally, then what can we do? It can't have been easy for them to arrive at this point and make such a difficult and painful decision. Quite honestly, after stewing for a couple of days, I don't think we can say 'they owe us any explanations'. JP has given us music we will love forever, great memories, and been a colossal part of all their fans' lives. I don't want any explanations. If this move offers the possibilty of a few more albums and a few more good concerts, even without KK, and it's ultimately what will work best for both parties, so that there is no animosity and they all can move forward in directions that work best for them so they get some satisfaction in their lives, then so be it. I guess I'd rather have part of Priest, than no Priest. I wish KK the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do, and salute him for all the years of amazing music. We would have liked it for a little while longer.
[metalgodess] Wednesday, April 20, 2011 4:27:21 PM
If it's been confirmed that K.K. is not ill, then it's OK to rant - the press release says "...Richie Faulkner has blended into the band perfectly, blah blah blah..." so exactly how long have they been sitting on this information?
[metalgodess] Wednesday, April 20, 2011 9:24:07 AM
disappoint
I can't believe the one and only time I will see Priest, K.K. won't even be there. This sucks. I understand that people gotta do what they gotta do, but if this is the last time Priest goes on tour, it would have been nice to see all the members...so disappointed.

Same here. I don't dislike Nostradamus - I think in some weird way it was the only logical step forward after AOR. It shows a real sense of drama and mysticism, and in some ways a higher intellect. I also think AOR has great music other than just Hellrider and Judas Is Rising - I really like Lochness and will admit to it without reservation. When you look at their entire body of work you see the growth and changes in direction. The only things I'm not interested in are the Ripper Years. Without Rob it just ain't Priest for me.

AC/DC does rock, but pale in comparison to the Beast that is Priest . I never actually thought of them as metal, more like hard rock...guess it depends what you consider metal in the first place. They've put out some great and memorable stuff, but personally, for me, nobody does it like JP.
Yeah, Spa - I did the Anne Rice stuff too...I'll read just about any genre if it is well-written. One of my favourite books that I still return to is 'As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning' by Laurie Lee, which chronicles his experience in Spain during the Civil War. It is so beautifully written, just amazing. At the same time, I love cold war spy novels - The Charm School by Nelson DeMille, Gorky Park and Polar Star by Martin Cruz Smith (but not the final book in the trilogy - Red Square - really disappointing, read as if it was written by a completely different author). And yes, I'll even admit to Jackie Collins, too...LOL only on vacations, as a naughty indulgence!!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by spapad from Monday, March 21, 2011 5:02:08 PM)

My favorite, tuff to call. I know my least favorite. I was disapointed in Dan Brown's Davinci Code because I figured the end out before I should have, other than that I loved the book. So, if that is the worst I have to say, I'd say I'm a bookworm. Flora is well on her way to filling a full bookshelf too, and actually carried enough accelerated reader points at school last year to cover what was required for the entire class. She internets, reads, and only cuts the TV on once a month probably.

As for the word........I know certain people would associate a certain IM fan with it, but I just ain't that mean.....so PUCKER!!!!
Godfathers 1 & 2, Deer Hunter, The Eagle Has Landed, Death at a Funeral (the original not the remake)......this is subject to change...still love It's a Wonderful Life, too!

tricky territory...2 very different tunes, kinda hard to compare...Breaking the Law is very straightforward and basic, but catchy as hell, the stuff you'd go nuts for at an 80's dance at school, (which is a good thing regardless) but Painkiller is more like, I'm in the car and I want to blow my eardrums and bang my head against the steering wheel
Both albums generated my fewest favourite songs, so when I posted my Epitaph tour setlist requests, I had no problem sticking to only 1 song from those 2 albums. Truthfully I'd forsake any songs from Jug, POE, Demo & Turbo just to get extra tunes off DOTF, Painkiller, or the earlier albums.
Thanks Budred! You're a sweetie!! You know you're an aging metal head when this happens: My 10-year old signed the card she made me, 'Love Anastasia, & Rob Halford'....
Thanks Head Banger and Spapad for your help. I had a nice surprise 2 Sundays ago...I'm a grandma!!! One of my 'strays' that I take care of had kittens. Tuffy and her 4 kittens are now residing in my basement
This is my old man William, he's 16 yrs old!
This is my beauty boy Bosco, he is 1 1/2 yrs old :)!

He sees me going nuts, puts his hand out and pulls me up onto the stage to sing with him.....now I can die happy!!!!

Now that I gave it a couple more listens, I think this boy could easily front a metal band quite successfully. He's definitely got pipes, just needs a bit of tweeking...perhaps a master class with Rob!!

There's a lovely social going on at the nursing home. Many of the residents are enjoying the dancing and socializing. One particularly vivacious older gal sees a gentleman in his 80's sitting quietly by himself, and saunters over to him.
"Hiya handsome," she says. She leans in and whispers, "I can give you Super Sex."
The old guy thinks for a moment, then answers, "I'll take the soup."
Here comes the tears, begging, and grovelling....with much embarrassment I admit I have yet to experience a JP concert, so this may well be my one and only chance at ever seeing JP at all, which is something I have been looking forward to for a very long time. To have to choose only one song from each album is basically an impossibility. There are some albums that truly should be played in their entirety. However, unless they are planning a massive 3-hour, no opening act gig, (yes, please!!!!!), we will have to choose with great thought. Nevertheless, here is one fan's dream list:
ROCKA ROLLA - Cheater/One for the Road/Run of the Mill SAD WINGS - Tyrant/The Ripper/Victim of Changes/Island of Domination/Genocide/Dreamer Deceiver SIN AFTER SIN - Here Come the TearsFOLLOWED BY THE RESTOF THE ALBUM STAINED CLASS - WHOLE ALBUM HELL BENT FOR LEATHER- WHOLE ALBUM BRITISH STEEL- WHOLE ALBUM POINT OF ENTRY - Desert Plains SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE- You've Got Another Thing Coming/Electric Eye DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH - WITHOUT QUESTION, ENTIRE ALBUM TURBO - Turbo Lover/Reckless RAM IT DOWN - Hard as Iron PAINKILLER - WITHOUT QUESTION, ENTIRE ALBUM ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION - Hellrider, Lochness, Judas Rising, Angel, Wheels of Fire NOSTRADAMUS - Nostradamus, Pestilence and PlagueI know that this is a rather unrealistic set list. But you can't really expect someone to choose between songs like The Sentinel, Jawbreaker, Freewheel, and Love Bites now, can you? They crammed too much good stuff on the same album, and did so on several albums, too. Oh well. Dream big or go home.Edited at: Tuesday, March 01, 2011 10:43:01 AM Edited at: Tuesday, March 01, 2011 10:45:40 AM Edited at: Tuesday, March 01, 2011 10:48:30 AM

Rob's voice is so versatile, and with that INSANE range he could definitely sing opera....I would assume he has had some classical training or at least exposure. There is a mystical quality about his sound - there may be others that can hit those high notes as well, but for me he is the greatest and most unique metal singer of all time. O.k......if anyone is interested in the opinion of a newbie - here it is - Maiden is an incredible band. There is no disputing that. Their technical prowess, songwriting skills and powerhouse in-your-face-performances are a tribute to that very fact. No one can argue that. But here's the thing...as much as I really like their music and am blown away by their skills, JP is still and always without a doubt my favourite metal band. It's just opinion, not a fact that can be proven or disproven. As songwriters. their lyrics and music have never left me feeling flat or un-satisfied. Pretty much every song leaves me feeling that had I written it, I wouldn't have done anything different. Their music is what I reach for first, last, and always. (Unless I'm hankering Ozzy, he's my other big love.) Because it's my personal taste. For me it doesn't get any better that Priest. (This is starting to sound like a lame-ass beer commercial!) It doesn't mean Maiden doesn't deserve kudos for their stuff. But for me and countless others - ...Now, everyone play nice or else!!!!!

Hi Spapad - my bad for not clarifying - it was my childhood cat that made it to 22....Nita (the Rottie/Doberman) was about 15 or 16 I believe. My boss at my first job had an English Bull Terrier named Lucy (his name was Ricky, how cute is that :), he used to bring it to his store every day. She was a real character. No matter how many times he'd bathe her or not, she always smelled like salami....very condusive to good business in fine jewellery retail! NUPE - I had a beautiful rabbit as a kid....but we ended up giving her to a farm (hopefully my parents weren't lying !!!! Years later, I went to Italy to meet my dad's side of the family, and to my absolute horror, everywhere we went, rabbit was the mail course for dinner....I didn't eat well for weeks !

What's more interesting about him is that he actually enjoys listening to Judas Priest! If I don't have a Priest record playing from my stereo, he looks a little anxious and moves around. But if I put a CD or LP in, he starts lying down and looks like he's really enjoying himself...

I have no doubt it's going to be one of the best experiences of my life. I just wish I'd have thought about it sooner, say, 20 years ago or so!!!! I can't say enough about JP...no matter what is going on, if I start listening and/or singing along (much to the horror of my husband and daughter), everything starts to ROCK! And the music, the lyrics - thank you boys for not giving us drivel and calling it music - they could put out a book of all the lyrics and it would rival some of the best literary creations. When I hear the absolute CRAP that is out there today, it actually makes me depressed...maybe more so because I see the world can no longer differentiate between shit and glory....
P.S. I still have a wikked, wikked crush on rob.............
[metalgodess] Thursday, February 17, 2011 8:46:13 PM
spewed.... I went to the Ozzy concert 2008 - Rob Zombie opened....crazy show! Unfortunately, I was expecting the Ozzy from my youth, circa Bark at the Moon and Diary days......I thought they were going to have to give him the paddles at one point!!! LOL. He actually disappeared during Zakk Wylde's guitar solo for what seemed to be 15 minutes or so. Maybe they gave him a shot of epi....I was just so happy to have gone in the first place, it didn't bother me that he didn't hit those notes the way I remembered them in my head. I keep hoping when I see JP, Rob will be the way I see him in live footage I've seen from the FUEL FOR LIFE tour - Austin, TX....he look so damn happy...especially during The Sentinel, when he's talking to the audience. That's my big dream. I don't even care if I dislocate my head, I'm bangin', baby!!!!!

And all we need of hell.

I had no idea....it would have absolutely killed me to deal with something like that.....I've always loved German Shepherds, but I hear so much about the trouble they have with hip dysplasia I don't think I could handle seeing them suffer....I had a terrible time watching my mother-in-law's gorgeous Rottie/Doberman go downhill with age and struggle just to sit and lie down. I wish dogs could have the same life expectancy as cats. My first lived to be 22. She was blind and almost toothless when she died, but she still had moxie up until the end.
In a way, they spared you a world of hurt. Irish Wolfhounds only live about 8 years. I would be heartbroken to loose a dog in 8 years, and if its adopted, even less time. Couldn't bare it. I lost my last cattledog to seizures at only 3 years old. That was shocking and hurtful considering I had done everything I could to medicate her right and all.
Trust me, they did do you a favor. Your kids would have been mortified at his short life.

All through university I had a best friend who was a huge Van Halen fan, and he and I were the only metalheads in our 4 years of classical piano studies (go figure!) I called him 5150, he caled me Metal Goddess. I deliberately spelled GODESS with one "D" for 2 reasons -
1. Every time I try to use it as an online name, it's been taken, spelled with double D's,
2. Feels less of a diminutive version of God with just a single D.
Besides, HELLRIDER and SENTINEL were already spoken for!!!!!

Whoa, man, it had nothing to do with kids or living in remote parts of the world...as a teenager/20-somethinger I lived in house where metal was considered the devil, literally. I had to hide crappy cassettes that I made by recording stuff off the radio, and tape them to the back of my furniture with the hopes that no one would find them. When they were found, they got tossed after rather unpleasant confrontations. By the time I moved out (or rather, BOLTED in my late 20's) none of my friends or colleagues were into metal, so my JP-ness stayed in the closet for years...until now, at 43, and if that makes me a loser, TOO FREAKING BAD...'cause life is too freakin' short and I gotta be who I am....even if my 10-year-old daughter and husband think I'm a wackjob headbanger (they are into dance music, help me now, but at least I let my kid listen to what she likes!) So even if I go alone when they come, and get stuck banging my head solo with my fist in the air alone, I'm going to see Priest.

When I listen to Rob's voice over the last 30-odd years, I don't say it has changed, it's more like it has evolved...what this guy can do is absofreakinlutely mystical. The power, versatility and range is nothing short of a God-given gift. The fact that JP is still out there melting faces and eardums of the faithful after all these years is proof enough of what they can do. Nothing they put out can disappoint!!!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!! P.S. I am a JP concert ""virgin"', so after waiting to see them for 25 years, they better come to the ACC in Toronto or I'll die!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited at: Friday, February 04, 2011 8:50:44 PM

I must say, Rob's Italian pronunciation in the chorus of Pestilence and Plague is awesome!!! I can't wait for another album - maybe something more along the lines of DOTF or Screaming or Painkiller, for all us metal-adrenaline junkies out there....whatever they put out I will support the guys, regardless. They've provided their fans with some of the best music ever written or performed. Whether or not Nostradamus is a 'fan favourite' is neither here nor there, JP has always given 110% in all and any efforts. Even if this was it, they'd still go down in history as the greatest metal band THAT EVER FREAKING EXISTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the "'issue'" for some people with Nostradamus is that it goes in a direction that was not expected, very dark and depressing, and with the timing of Priest announcing their final tour, it feels like something has ended....it's as if that ''in your face grinding never let them get you down fight 'til the end with every fibre of your being'' attitude kind of melted into a sad reflection of what doom lies before us that we cannot change...I admit I thought it was a bit of a departure for JP, but the more I listen the more it pulls me in, even though it is a dark place that Priest never took me too yet...but HOT DAMN it still ROCKS!!! Anything they ever do still ECLIPSES ALL OTHER MUSIC!!!! It's just that it left us with a sense of something coming to its close. We just don't want the ride to ever end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL HAIL THE PRIEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say Here Come the Tears - pure gut-wrenching anguish in the vocals and guitarwork, and strangely erotic ....also Beyond the Realms...can I count Lochness???? It's kind of anthemy-ballady....

Priest seems to be the soundtrack to my daily existence - I absolutely MUST work out to Priest otherwise I just can't get it going - I feel no pain and I can go to that point of exhaustion and then even further....I told my family if I'm ever in a coma to put THE SENTINEL on a loop, let it play at MAXIMUM LOUDNESS, and wait a couple of minutes....I should come back in no time, nobody in their right mind could leave this planet if there's PRIEST in it!!!!!
