TOPIC: Nostradamus CD....what do you think?
[MASI 73] Tuesday, July 29, 2008 12:43:54 PM

Took me a while to get the Nostradamus cd out here, I didn't want to download it from Itunes. I collect cds and i wanted my own copy (have about 4600). I got all the metal I need here, (that's the one thing I can't do without).  When we roll out on long missions  I take the headphones and stick them on my headset mouth piece, that way the whole crew gets educated ( we only pause it for radio chatter).
JayDee is here too?
Anyway, thanks bro.

Tasnam1/Jay dee, I want to thank you both for putting up great points on your post. I would like to start by saying that I did not mean to personally attack anyone. I am as opinionated as anybody on this site, what I had understood from those was a negative criticism that in a way had bothered me some. Reading it again and reading your sports example, it was spot on. I am happy that my (armchair analysis) was crushed so gracefuly in my (opinion).
thank you both for the smart conversation (I haven't had one in about 10 months).

The cd and all the tracks are in perfect order and harmony... You know, I love you armchair producers and musicians, you sit there passing judgement on the work of others as if you were some kind of expert. I respect the fact that all of us have opinions, but you guys(Vaillant 3.0 & tasnam1), are too opinionated. Who are you to sit there and tell this band how they should conduct their business, considering they have done a great job for over 30 years. I mean really, don't air the video, this song here, that song there... Yes, we all have opinions but you dudes take the cake!!!
The cd is a masterpiece, the arrangments are flawles and very intricate. Nothing in this world is perfect ( look at the Mona lisa, or The Last Supper), but they are still a masterpiece. So don't be so anal and enjoy the work of art others have brought to life for you to enjoy, rather than sitting there and picking it apart.

I'm a soldier in Iraq and it took me a while to get the new album, but now that i have it I can't stop listening to it.
I have to say that Nostradamus is a master piece, JP at its creative best. I thank you for the years of dedication and hard work, and for not selling out. You have stayed true to the Fans, the music  and yourselves. It would have been easy to pull a Metallica on us all, it is a testament to your charecter and dedication.

Thank you

I got mail from my children today. I'm here in Iraq so you consider that stuff treasure. They tell me that they miss me and they don't want me to leave again. They also tell me they don't want me to be a soldier anymore. After almost 10 years in the Army I realize they are right...After I get home in January no more re-enlist for me I'm hanging up the boots. I have about 5 months to go on a 15 month deployment, and when I get home I have about a year left.
Civilian world here I come, the dawning of this in my mind made me pretty freaking happy.

I've been in Iraq for 10 months out of a 15 month tour. Been blown up twice shot at numorous times, and my command sucks. I know I'm on the down hill now, not much longer to go but this does not change the fact that I'm pretty pissed off right now. To top it all off I'm going to miss the JP tour again.

TOPIC: Greatest Metal Band Ever?
[MASI 73] Saturday, July 12, 2008 6:47:51 PM
As far as Heavy Metal goes Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and old Metallica are the ones to take the crown.
However, no other band can compare to the talent and sense of the music and genra like K.K. and Tipton and Smith and Murray. They have the formula, and the skills that are unmatched by any other in the bis. Dave Mustane is just a genious aswell, the diversity and creative skills are hands down top notch. What I have to say about Dave is...when started to suck, ie; Risk, he cleaned house and came back better than before. The Priest, Maiden duo I can't even say enough  about them. Metallica had it, but they let the drumming midget (Lars) have creative say and i think that F$#@&ed them up some... Lets see what they come out with next! Anyway, to me these are the bands the set the standards, and to this day are still rocking my eardrums to hell and back.

Back when I was a kid I saw Iron Maiden for the "World Slavery Tour", the out come of that was one of the greatest albums ever "Live After Death". The power of that show left me in Metal Heaven till this day. Then I saw JP live and that was another one of those shows that the stars were alligned right. I don't know if it was the intoxication mixed with the music and the strength of youth, but I remember those nights like they were yesterday. There have been others worth mentioning, but I want to see how popular this topic is before writing more.
TOPIC: Should there be a Metal hall of fame?
[MASI 73] Saturday, July 05, 2008 7:53:43 PM
Wow, all of you had some great input. I feel I have learned more here than I did in my 20+ years of listening to all of these great bands. The point I think we can all agree on (at least the older dudes and dudets)  is that for some of us this was a gradual escalation of what we where listening to at the time. The avenues of rock, metal, and eventualy heavy metal had not yet been fully explored. We grew up wanting more and better, and most of these great bands delivered. We know the difference between Glam, Rock, Metal and so on, but the younger crowd seem to confuse it.
Long hair means metal, saggy pants is hip-hop, and flanel shirts is grunge. Heavy metal, hell rock & roll in general suffered a great amount of heat from what I like to call " DO GOODER GROUPS" lead by Tipper Gore in the late 80's. The recording industries also oversaturated the market with crappy bands, you know " no substance" that ultumatly caused the down slope of sales and the rise of the crap that is out there today.

Long Live Rock , Metal and whatever else you love..... eccept the YO YO crap that's out now

TOPIC: Should there be a Metal hall of fame?
[MASI 73] Sunday, June 29, 2008 8:22:59 PM
What's up with bands like RUSH, which in my opinion are master of the trade being passed up year after year. I mean there are so many bands that deserve the top honors and get passed up. I know RUSH is not metal, but their influence is heard on so many metal and contemporary bands its not even funny. Metal was an art for rebels, heard by rebels and made for rebels. Hell, growing up in the late 70's and 80's listening to metal was your staple of rebelion. I think there should be a metal hall of fame. Can you imagine the induction ceremony? I don't think Carly Simon would be invited!!!

Suddnly you were gone
from all the lives
you left your mark upon
I remember how we talked and drank
into the misty dawn
I hear the voices
We ran by the water
on the wet summer lawn
I see the foot prints
I remember....

My beloved brother Stefano Ferrara passed on 12/23/2007 while I was in Iraq. This song has been in my heart for years, but now more than ever.

I love you and miss you bro.

Bruce is by far the better choice. I just wish that maiden would go back to their classic lineup Steve, Dave, Adrian, Nicko, and Bruce. You know lose the 5th wheel.
