I was wondering the same thing myself. I guess if they are only playing Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, (nothing in between), then Toronto, Montreal, & Quebec City, they might as well be on the US tour. The worst part is, I don't see Minneapolis on the list either, so it's a looooong road trip for a show from any of us in central Canada. Never thought I'd miss a tour. Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll try War of Words first. I have everything Priest and Halford have made, including 2wo, and no Fight. Go figure. I did download Fight's Christmas Ride off the Halford site. That is my FAVORITE xmas tune! His vocals sound faded into the background though, but still an INCREDIBLE song! Thanks, I can't wait to... |

Halford played an awesome live show when they were here last November! I would have loved to have heard Till The Day I Die live, since it's the most amazing song I've heard in a very long time. Regarding Rob, can anyone suggest a good first Fight cd? I've only heard a couple of songs, and love Just A Little Crazy, but I'd like to buy a cd and am not sure which one to go with first. Any suggestions? |

Great picks Jeanine, except I would put All Fired Up in place of Hot Rockin'. Also, I'd love to hear United or Take On The World. Something other than the same ones we've heard live already. Love you guys, thanks for the awesome decades of Priest songs! Can't wait to see you in concert again! I, like many fans, am still hoping that you will put out one last hard rocking cd of classic Priest. Not sure what happened this year, that you are doing a farewell tour and no new cd, but I'll enjoy what I can, and I respect your decision. And by the way, I liked Nostradamus,it's had many plays on my iPod. I would have liked to have heard more of those songs live, since there are many gems on there, but maybe you took to heart the negative comments on here. Keep in mind, many liked it too. Keep the faith, as I will too, and see you on the road! |

In searching Rob and opera, I came across this interesting article. The author sent 5 anonymous songs to a classically trained vocal teacher in New York, to have her analyze the singers. Rob of course is one of them, and it's interesting to see which song they picked and what she thought of it. It's always been my favorite song, so I was interested to hear her take on his vocals. She didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, though. That Rob is an amazing vocalist, and has a shockingly spectacular range & variety in his singing. I never get bored listening to him, whether it be Priest, Halford, 2wo, Fight or Christmas tunes! Thanks for sharing your gift with us Rob! I just saw Rob last weekend with Halford opening for Ozzy. It was AWESOME!!! Rob's pipes sounded great and I would definitely go see them again, if they toured by here. As for the Opera topic, regarding Rob, I had heard three of our best metal vocalists were talking (or joking) about doing something like the Three Tenors, except it was Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate, and they were going to call themselves The Three Tremors. I thought that would be great, and I would go see them, of course! Too funny. |

Last night I saw Halford opening for Ozzy! What a great concert!! Rob was in fine form, and played Made of Metal, Fire & Ice and Like There's No Tomorrow from the new cd. He also sang Green Manalishi, Diamonds and Rust and Jawbreaker, which are all awesome! It was so nice to see that band play, especially since Priest are on hiatus. Ozzy was his usual crazy self and sprayed foam on the audience whatever chance he could. All in all, a great show, and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PRIEST HERE!!! \m/ \m/ Thanks Rob for a great show! |

"Till the day I die" is the best song on this cd. LOVE it! I haven't given the rest much of a chance because of it. Made of Metal is a good song musically, but I agree, the lyrics are a little elementary. I hope to hear my fave at the show next month. |

Two questions for you Deep Freeze: 1) Are you an english professor? (You're extremely knowledgeable and articulate! I like it.) 2) If someone says "Where are you at?" Are they dangling a participle? I used to have fun telling people to be careful, they were dangling their participles. Some would even look down. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Wednesday, February 10, 2010 12:19:22 PM) | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Ah Nicky, my friend. Here, at last, we must part ways of the mind! While in today's view it is considered "acceptable" to use a conjunction to begin a sentence, grammatically it is NOT encouraged. Beginning a sentence with a conjunction tends to lead to one of two things; run-on sentences or short, choppy ones. It is also terribly informal. Now, if your intent is to address an issue with informality, it is acceptable and has reached the point where it is very prevalent in today's writing. The old adage, "Know thy audience" applies in this case.
In the 1600-1700's, it was perfectly acceptable to use a conjunction to begin a sentence. As language developed and people became more aware of education, vocabulary and social status, the use of conjunctions to start sentences was thought to be poor grammar and a lack of proper education. It was also believed that English was inferior to Latin and should be changed. This lead to certain "rules" that really are not necessarily rules at all, but more like positions of thought. While it was noble, in thinking, to adapt to a more "Latin based" form of language, English is actually a decendant of German and so many of the "rules" simply do not "fit" in a technical sense.
The same holds for ending a sentence with a preposition, although that one is far more important in MY mind!! Many times, words thought to be "prepositions" are really an adverbial particle (part of the verb) and, therefore, not really prepositions at all. Verbs can retain much , if not all, of their properties when used in certain contexts.
OK then! I have made my statement on the matter. What is acceptable and what is proper are far different things, depending on whom it is to which you are speaking.....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe, very thoughtful and moving post you wrote there for us. Thanx ! Thinking of you and your close ones, and wishing you the very best
And Guido, yes, one can fully standardly start a sentence with "and" :
7. |
(used to introduce a sentence, implying continuation) also; then: And then it happened. |
- Dictionary.com
So that sort of wraps it up for the moment as far as my concerns are concerned
Nicky. |

"Too much pre-recorded, over-dubbed crap. There are only so many "I'm so hot, look at my ass" songs one can do before it becomes terribly redundant, no?" One of your previous comments. I totally agree with you, and I was just being silly . It's sickening who gets nominated and who the powers that be tell us we should like, even though they did not create the music themselves, or likely even write their own songs. That's the way of music today it seems. The real musicians, like Priest, seem to get overlooked time and again. I don't care. I love them anyway, and always will. I listen to their songs and am amazed at their talent. I just think it's incredible you get to create your own music too and share it live. Enjoy it! I just wish I could sing. I'm a tad jealous! Yes, he IS the Metal God and can do things most human beings cannot, but he IS human. He can still do things that are just incredible. I admit that. The song Nostradamus blew me away too. What a great song. I am soo looking forward to a solid british metal album. But I agree with you JT, there is no excuse for not taking out a few minutes from at least one of the 5 boys and updating the diehard fans or even saying hi. I just hope that means they are hard at work in the studio now that the holidays are over! But to tide me over, I've discovered "All Fired Up" on Turbo's re-masters as the bonus track. What a great song! I'd like to hear something like that on the new album! ALL FIRED UP! Always keeping the metal spirit alive that's what we need! You know one of the biggest rushes in the world was when i was on myspace looking through the band spaces and i came across Priests and i saw they had a totally new track online, what's this? Nostradamus? First of all after picking myself up off the floor from sheer disbelief i listened with eager intent and my God i was impressed i almost died when the main riff came in with Scott's double bass and Halfords Godly scream. That is what listening to the Priest is all about and if they can even write 3 tracks like that on the new album that invoke that reaction in me then i will be happy.
I know they can do it, Hellrider knows they can do it, J.D knows but is finding it hard and i guess i can see that too. I'm holding out that they can do it and i can't wait for when they decide to. Right now i'm fed up that there hasn't been any proper news on the band in months they can't just be doing nothing! | | J.D. DIAMOND wrote: | | !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well,if the next LP is going to be heavy I just can't fathom the album sounding as strong and as heavy as "Painkiller". Even if they went in the studio trying to create an album as strong as Painkiller I still don't think it would turn out as heavy, not because of lack of effort but because they are older now. But we all have to understand that they are now pushing 60 years old and not pushing 40. Thats what I'm afraid of....I can see this band churning out total heavy metal and a total heavy album and hearing members complaining that its not as good as Painkiller not because of the quality of songs but because of the heaviness of the album.
Even though it was the bands intention to create Angel Of Retribution in the same vien as Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith, still many fans were complaining that it wasn't as heavy as Painkiller ect.... But what they missed out on is that it wasn't supposed to be as heavy as Painkiller. Even if on the next album every track was equal to "Demonizer"....I can still hear fans complaining that its not another Painkiller...I sure hope not. If the next LP turned out like Angel Of Retribution I will be more than satisfied. |

I did take him to a music store before Christmas and he was kind of mesmerized by all the stuff in there. He did get a kick out of trying out the drum kits, but they were adult size. It's good that you got your son a real kit, because I think people waste their money on those ones from the toy store. They're not nearly sturdy enough for a kid to pound on. The only drumming we've done here is on Guitar Hero World Tour. It gives him a bit of an idea of what it's all about. I'd like the boys to learn real instruments though. Thanks a lot for the advice. I think I'll sign him up for some lessons and rent a kit to see how it goes. HAVE A GREAT DAY METALHEADS! At 8 years oldhe's figured out what is getting his attention and the sooner you start the better. Drum notations are easier to read than any other sheet music but I suggest you get him to some formal lessons asap. Piano is also good and well, every boy wants a guitar lol. Also if he can figure out his timing now from drums my theory is that it will be easier for him to grasp another instrument but you'd hate to get him something that he has no iterest in. You get the most amazing children's drum kits' The one we're getting Zakk comes from a music store (as opposed to a toy store) It is a direct replica of my kit and it has amazing sound. The children's kits usually come with a throne, hi-hats, crash and the hardware. Super favorite album, Defenders of the Faith. It was also my first intro to Priest. I was scarred forever. (But also love Sad Wings, Screaming, Nostradamus, and everything else they do!) Least favorite, but will listen to it occasionally, is Turbo. I'm trying to collect the Re-masters cds (I have all the vinyl, which I can't play due to a lack of a working player,) and just got Turbo in the mail. Holy crap. I can't even describe the cheesy lyrics. And I seriously can't listen to all of Parental Guidance. I tried, but it was...just...so....cheeeezy!!! Yes I know it was "the era", but COME ON. I think if hey had written those songs for some other american hair metal band, they might have been somewhat successful, but this didn't fit Priest at all. I like Turbo Lover and some other assorted songs, but there are some un-Priest-like ones on there. But for what's it worth, I discovered a new one on there, which is the bonus track All Fired Up. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! Priest's 'Ace of Spades'. What a great little gem! I can't stop listening to it! I'd love to hear it live. |

I too agree with DF. I drifted after Painkiller. Though I liked it, I was going in a little different direction at the time and drifted musically. I didn't pick up the Ripper era cds because I liked Rob's voice. Does that make me a bad fan? It's hardly fair to the other 4 who continued on. There was just a little something tasty missing in the musical mix for me, and I guess that was Rob's contribution. Since AOR, I have listened to some of Jugulator and Demolition, and really like Hell is Home, and Cathedral Spires, but to date, still haven't picked up either cd. Which would you recommend? I'm working my way through the Re-masters and am getting a kick out of some of the additional songs! It's like getting something old, but it's new to me. My number one pick for which album to buy, is Defenders of the Faith, and 2nd, Sad Wings of Destiny. Love'em both! [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Friday, January 08, 2010 10:35:05 AM) | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Ah. Very well said. I can certainly understand that. It appears that we are distinctly different in that area, which is just fine. For me, the very essence of a Priest song is the melodic value each one brings. The vocal melodies are equally well done and that adds to what has always been Priest's great attraction for me. The melody within the driving, pounding Metal vibe. With the "Ripper" songs, it seems to me that much of the melodic value was lost in favor of a more "contemporary" sound. As you said, Priest evolved with what was popular at the time, just as they did with Turbo. The difference being Rob, of course. He always injected that melodic sense to the songs and gave Priest a very distinct sound.
In all honesty, I was not really following Priest at the time anyway. The last album I had purchased was Painkiller which, for me, signaled a "re-birth" for Priest and a return to a more "classic sound" after all the mid-eighties stuff. When Rob left the band, I was pretty much onto other things and paid little attention until just prior to his return. When I heard the Ripper stuff, I was covinced I would not follow them ever again and then, Rob returned. AoR really sealed it for me. I love that album. | | kiamat wrote: | | Thats a fair comment, as it is probably just that which attracts me to these albums- I grew up right in the middle of nu-metal and hardcore, and although it is desperately uncool these days to admit that you ever liked any of it (most of my peers would much rather pretend they were listening to Black Sabbath and Van Halen in the late 90s/early 00s) but it was a more fertile time for metal than people claim- the genre moved forwards a lot and Priest were right in the thick of it without selling out- it is very distinctively them and they took the brutuality of Painkiller and put in a new dimension with some creepy keys and synths work. The lyrics are perhaps not up to their 80s standards- I guess that's another opinion thing. |

Happy metal new year to you all! It's nice to see people are sounding generally happy. That's cool! As for those complaining about the weather, I would really like to feel bad for you, but here at home in the Great White North, it has warmed up to 3.2'F. Warmed up. That's right. It was frightfully frigid between Christmas and New Year, around the -18'F range, without the windchill. BRRRRRRRRR!!! I feel cold just talking about it, and I'm sitting here in long underwear. And I doubt I would survive without my block heater and interior car warmer. It cuts the chill in the van a bit, and keeps my Priest CDs working. |

But I really don't consider myself a "Heavy Metal" singer in the strictest sense. I mean, I can do some Metal and I can do a lot of other genres but I am really not a true Metal singer in the mold of a Halford or say, a Dio. I am more of a journeyman vocalist. I am not great but not bad, either. You know?
As for "demand", well that is really a matter of "putting myself out there", as it were. You'd be surprised how many bands are looking for vocalists. I met a guy last night that is a singer in an established band here in Vegas and he is just now getting into the internet music scene! He was VERY excited to ask me questions about it, as he had never tried it and was just starting to do some things with some online people. That amazes me. I mean, technology has made SO MUCH possible for musicians and yet, SO MANY know nothing of it!
I will admit that the feeling is remarkably gratifying, though. I mean, to be asked by so many great artists to be a part of their work is an honor I do not take lightly. I work very hard to deliver my end of the bargain, as it were. Each opportunity is another chance for me to create. I have so much music in my head that it actually goes on an on all the time! I hear it everywhere. Kind of like what you said before about finding music in everyday life. It s there for me.
You hit the nail on the head though, man. Tecchnology has really opened some doors for musicians. Its incredible. It really is. |  | jimmyjames wrote: | | That is cool. Great how technology these days has made it possible for collaborations like this to happen. |  | Deep Freeze wrote: | | I have something rather unique that is making me quite happy now. Since I really have no other place to say this, I will do so here...;
Most of you are aware of the tremendous success I had with a recent collaboration song over on AcidPlanet. The gentleman I worked with over there is a "heavy weight" on that site, apparently. Anyway, the song (Drive Home) was so well received and stayed at number ONE for SEVEN straight days, that I was contacted by TWO other bands to do similar projects!! I just finished writing and recording a song with a band that is in GERMANY!!!! (That's right, Michael!! HA!!) They are called "Wildering Sheep". They do more "Alternative/Progessive" Rock but they do have some heavier material.
Anyway, as is usually the case, I received a song file and was asked to write a melody and lyrics for it, which I did. I finished the recording yesterday and sent it off to the guy that is doing the production. The song is a bit of a departure for me, as it is not really straight forward "Rock". Has more of an Alternative feel to it. The guy that wrote it sent me an e-mail telling me about how he wrote the song after a break-up with a young lady on their way to an exhibit in a town in Germany called "Welten". Naturally, the song is called Welten and I wrote a sort of "break-up" tune for it.
When it is completed, I will let you all know. It is SO very exciting to work with other musicians, especially those from other countries! I am starting today on the second song. This is with another group based here in the States. It will be a much more "Rock and Roll" song with a heavier sound. All very cool and just SO much fun!!! |

Yes I agree Hellrider. I would just like to see them get true recognition for all their years of hard rockin'! It's still pretty amazing after pushing 40 years of metal mayhem, Judas Priest is getting mentioned/nominated for a Grammy! That's quite something. Way to go boys, you've earned it! Yay, Priest have been nominated again for a Grammy! I wonder if they'll get recognized this time, for the many decades of music they've put out. It's unfortunate that there is only one real "metal" catogory. It makes it near impossible to truly honor the many bands and types of metal that are out there. When the generic "Rock" category includes Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal, it's hard to compete with the Linkin Park's of the world and the popularity of their type of music. Look at the sheer number of catogories for Pop music! Best vocal, best male vocal, best female vocal, best duet, best album, best song, best haircut, best barely there outfit, etc, etc, ad nauseum. Well to h*ll with them all, I'm cheering for Priest! Dissident Aggressor is an awesome song! |

Oh Holy Night sounded cheesy when I listened to it initially, but the more I listen to it, the more I like it's lilting quality. It's a good sing-a-long! I don't find We Three Kings dreary at all and it's one of my favorite songs. I love Get Into The Spirit, and Emmanuel too. Great songs! In general, the more I listen to the cd, the more I am enjoying it. Especially since it's looking a little more like Christmas around here. I appreciate not being forced to listen to pop or (shudder) country Christmas songs. Not We Three Kings though- no amount of musical talent can rescue a tune that is sadly fundamentely dreary. There are still a few songs on the CD that I haven't listened to yet. | | guardian angel wrote: | | I wonder how much the opinions are coloured by the album that opened your mind to Priest for the first time. Not too many people can say that about their favorite bands. By the way, it started snowing here today, nothing serious, we don't need the national guard yet (lol), as a result I've been listening more to Winter Songs, just to get into the spirit, so to speak. I must say, MAN, that Oh Holy Night is modest yet incredibly powerful! I am really warming up to the whole cd. Sadly, my least favorite is the last one, Oh Come All Ye Faithful. To me it sounds like it's trying too hard to be grand. Whereas Holy Night is unassuming and comes off very very grand. It just needs to have the synthesizers removed altogether from the song. Seriously, liking the cd! Ho ho ho! |

I can't speak for everyone on the forum, but ultimately, I like the variety in their discography. I do like Nostradamus, but I agree that this would be the time, if ever, for them to put out a serious british metal offering. I would love to see something along the lines of Defenders of the Faith mixed with Angel of Retribution. And I don't think the other 4 members of Priest would appreciate being lumped in with the Winter Songs thing. That was a Halford deal, something Rob wanted to cross off his bucket list. I just think that doing the British Steel revival tour right after releasing a new album, was bad timing. I think a short Nostradamus tour to promote their new material and a summer British Steel tour would have made more sense, but hey, I'm not in the music industry, what do I know. I just hope to hear something awesome before they hang up their axes. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by J.D. DIAMOND from Tuesday, November 24, 2009 4:01:10 AM) | | J.D. Getting a killer british metal album from these guys is not a "shoe in" at all as we all know, the next LP may turn out like Ram It Down for all we know. But this is what 95% of members on this forum like isn't it? The all like the fact that they never know what they will get from Judas Priest...could be a Painkiller, could be a Turbo, could be a British Steel, could be a cross between Nostradamus and Winter Songs...thats what almost everybody likes here is the fact that they can't count on one particular style. That's funny you should say that. TSO was just here and I just bought the cd with Wizards in Winter on it for my obsessed boys! I've had quite a few listens of Winter Songs now too, and there's one more song on there that reminds me of something else. It has a similar vibe to Billy Idol's "Yellin' at the Christmas Tree" off of Devil's Playground. I also have difficulty with the tinkling from Holy Night. Maybe some more listens and I'll get over it. My faves are still Get Into The Spirit and my all time favorite and kick*ss version of We Three Kings. I wish he sang at my church. Maybe Rob, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate will do their Three Tremors cd/tour idea one day. That would be crazy! Three phenomenal singers together making some beautiful operatic metal. Yes, it's definitely nice to be able to listen to something online or YouTube, to give you an idea of the direction of the music. That's how I found I liked some of Rob's 2wo stuff. I really like I Am A Pig and I love Deep In The Ground. I still have Fight in my back pocket, for when I feel I need something new or different from my favorite vocalist. Haven't quite gotten into that yet. On the other hand, I didn't need to think twice about Halford - Resurrection. I picked that up the minute I saw it & loved it. Same goes with anything Priest. I do think they like the artistic freedom of trying new things. Despite the fact that some fans don't like it. It's just the way it goes. At the end of the day, they have to enjoy the songs they're playing, otherwise it's a long tour. Even if it doesn't work- well if the band are enjoying themselves... fortunately in this day and age we can always check out the sound of an album online before buying if we aren't sure about it, so the band don't need to worry about angering fans who buy a new album and don't like the style/direction. | | guardian angel wrote: | | If you really think about it HRMG, Priest are rather insidious. I am hearing your vibe brother! I agree that Turbo is no Painkiller, but it fit the era at the time, which was California hair metal. Hmm...What was big back then. Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, Cinderella, etc. That was the mood. I like quite a few songs on Turbo, but I definitely saw it going in a different direction than Defenders of the Faith. (Which is my all time favorite Priest offering. Probably due to it being my first.) As for Halford, he has put out some phenomenal music with his solo band. I have to say I am incredibly disappointed that Judas Priest listened too closely to the complainers of Nostradamus and in the end barely played a single thing off their new album, which they poured months of work and soul into, then kept it in a drawer. ??? I am feeling let down that they couldn't even play the song Nostradamus, (or Alone or Persecution) live. Such awesome powerful songs, and to think I may never hear it live. I apologize, none of this has anything to do with this topic. P.S. I am thrilled to be having a metal Christmas. Thanks Rob! [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by JT_Small_Deadly_Space from Tuesday, November 10, 2009 8:09:48 AM) | | JT_Small_Deadly_Space wrote: | | The thing that people miss about Turbo is as much as it was a commerical flop, it does what it says on the tin, it is commercial, catchy and even fun man that's what British Steel was when it came to light however this was 7 years afterwards. I enjoy turbo, it's not exactly a heavy metal album and i know that it's more rock pop i guess but that's where the appeal lies. Everyone has a place in their heart for songs such as 'The Final Countdown' and 'Don't stop me now' by Queen etc why should 'Parental Guidance' be any different. 'Locked In' is one of the most uplifting tracks that Halford and the boys have ever come up with in my opinion and Out in the Cold is damn right awesome. When i hear Locked in it i get a feeling that i don't often get from Priest and it's just a sheer sense of happiness and excitement. Obviously all of their albums induce something within me whether it be aggression or anger etc and they put me in head banging mode but Turbo is different (except for the Private Property intro). It induces a totally different feeling but one that i still like. I think if it had been by a different band (one of the mainstream) then people would have loved it but beacuase it was by the studded metal rockers, people hate it. I think if bands can go outside their box and create something better than another band could have done of their own genre, then hell they deserve a pat on the back. Turbo is one of the best pop rock albums i've ever heard it may have failed at being a metal album but it succeeded on a whole new level. I can't leave without mentioning Reckless as i think it is trully the major stand out song of the album and something that could have easily went on Screaming For Vengeance, the guitar solo, the heavy riff and the vocals are just genius. As for POE well i think it failed as a metal album and didn't really succeed on many other levels although there are some great old British Steel standouts on there!
As for Halford stuff i believe that one day we will get another Halford metal album, after all if what you said is true J.D, Christmas 2010 aint for another year yet and Prest aint gonna be touring for a while. I believe Halford will do something more cause the music he has produced so far in that band has been outstanding and that is what the metal world is crying out for right now, Halford just needs to hear those cries =) |

What do you think of Sun on Crucible? That is the gem on that cd. I don't know what it is about that song, but it's spectacular. And he doesn't scream during any of it, it's pure singing and carrying a note. I just LOVE it. Definitely on my list of Top 10 Favorite Songs EVER. (I even tricked my husband into liking it by playing it, and THEN telling him who it was! Heehee!) I can't say much about the Ripper era, since I drifted a bit musically during that turbulent time. I do however like Hell is Home quite a bit, and Ripper definitely has pipes. But there's just something about Rob. He doesn't imitate anyone and he's got voices within voices. I met him once after the Painkiller concert, and he was a sweet gentleman! While giving him a hug, I took a deep sniff of his leathers! Good times.. Back to Winter Songs, I love their version of We Three Kings, it ROCKS! And Get Into The Spirit KICKS! I am deee-lighted to have METAL for Christmas and during our frigid ridiculous winters. I am disappointed that the 3 released songs were removed from YouTube, because now I have to wait until next week to hear the songs when I buy the first copy of Winter Songs! Yes i would say Nostradamus is one of my most listened to albums too, i can't explain why but it is i, like you like a lot of songs on that album. I have also been through that unstoppable phase of listening to The Ripper era. I love Jugulator and Priest have never sounded heavier (would have been better with Halford though for sure). I believe there should be different genres for every time of the year and it shouldn't matter what the topic is if the music is good. Halford always manages to bring out something that is missing. Ressurection was a return to pure heavy metal, Crucible well that was an experimental album for sure but it paid off, the title track is one of the greatest opening tracks of all time (despite the intro Park Manor). Get into the Spirit rocks hard and i look forward to the rest of the album! | | guardian angel wrote: | | I have to say I feel the same way. There are great songs on virtually every album Priest has made, and some duds too. I think the weakest offering was Point Of Entry, though I love Heading out to the Highway and Solar Angels. It has a different feel to it. More Arizona, than British steel mill. I personally like that they have the balls to try new things and not get stuck in the AC/DC every album sounds the same rutt. Don't get me wrong, I like AC/DC too, but throw in any album, it doesn't matter. You'll get the same sound. I came on board during Defenders of the Faith, and that is my most listened to album/cassette & CD. Oddly, next most listened to is Nostradamus. I like it. Not every song, but most of them. I also love Sad Wings & Sin after Sin, Screaming, etc etc. Every offering has something awesome on it. As for Winter Songs, I like what I've heard, and Rob can sing about toast and I'd likely love him more, but quite frankly, we need to have some metal over the holidays. It can't all be Bing Crosby, Madonna's Santa Baby, and the church versions. THANKS Rob for filling the void! | | JT_Small_Deadly_Space wrote: | | Well maybe not to you no but fans of the album would probably disagree with you. Rather than pick faults with albums which just ruins things, i find the good in all albums and that way i can enjoy whatever i'm listening to and not be disappointed. It's a shame more people here can't think it the same way. Besides sometimes it's the small things that make albums great i bet critics don't go wow, the chorus in 'Future of Mankind' is one of the best that Priest have ever written or wow the guitar playing in 'Nostradamus' (the track) is some of the best they have ever done or wow Halford gives one of the best performances of his entire career on 'Exiled' or wow 'Persecution' is a real heavy mo fo featuring yet again an awesome chorus, or yet wow 'Death' is one of the most evil and atmospheric tracks they have ever written or wow 'Alone' is one of, if not the best ballad they have ever written besides Angel!
Rather than finding the gems in something they just brush it off and go bah what a disapointment and i tell you, i bet Priest feel let down by that too cause they poured their heart and soul into that album even if some of the tracks weren't up to 'heavy metal standards'. It doesn't make it bad music that's all i'm saying. | | Skybreaker wrote: | | You can cut and paste Nostradamus all you want but is still doesn't bring it up to the metal standards they set in the past. | | JT_Small_Deadly_Space wrote: | | The reason people don;t like Nostradamus so much is because it has layers, whereas albums such as Painkiller and Jugulator didn't. I think if you exclude most of the prologues and a couple of songs and a are left with this: Dawn of creation, Prophecy, Revelations, Pestilence and plague, Death, Conquest, Persecution, Alone, Visions, Calm before the Storn, Nostradamus, Future of Mankind. Now that would have been good. I can share some of your disapontment because i too was when i first heard it but for some reason it still syands to this day as my most listened to album. I obviously pick out my favourites but Hell i genuinely enjoy it. Drums/production could have been more creative/better and some of the lyrics but for the most part they rocked hard. I just thought it was well though out, the emotion and feeling that came out through some of the tracks were overwhelming and i salute them for putting this together. It showed a different side to them that only comes out in tracks from their earliest albums. I think possibly the best allround track would have to be Alone that is a true Priest ballad and classic in my opinion. Nostradamus and Persecution are the heavy ass tracks which i love above many of their well known hits. But still i would like to see a return to good old British Steel! Something with relentless double bass, Strumming heavy riffs with harmonics and thunderous Halford screams although i fear they may be few and far between but still. Give us some good old prime British metal! As for winter songs i will not judge further until i hear the whole album. If the music is good it will get my vote despite the topic. |

I have to say I feel the same way. Rather than pick faults with albums which just ruins things, i find the good in all albums and that way i can enjoy whatever i'm listening to and not be disappointed. It's a shame more people here can't think it the same way. I first heard of them via Guitar Hero III and Our Truth. I just loved playing it, and it's the only one I can play on Hard. It's fairly simple but the vocals and timing are amazing & mesmerizing. They're actually coming here this Friday, but I have to work. Boo....Had it off, but had to switch to go to Anaheim the following week. Anything good to do there? (Besides Disney.) |

Thinking about this again, and I still think that Defenders of the Faith is the epitome of Priest. I came on board during this one and just missed going to the show. I still can't get over that one. Haven't missed on since. I love all their stuff with Halford, however I still think Defenders is the creme de la creme. Thank you Priest boys for all the great music! Keep'em coming. |

Very nice pendants QT, I especially like the one on the bottom row, second from the right. Do you sell them anywhere? I am also hoping to have a Nostradamus show at a venue near me. I wouldn't want to miss that either. Poo poo to those that don't like it, I think it's a fantastic CD. It put me in the mood for some of their older stuff, and I've been cycling through Sad Wings of Destiny. My favorite song is Dreamer Deceive/Deceiver. Hi Jeanine, thanks! The closest shows were in Minneapolis and Milwaukee. I have to wait until they come back here or announce their limited edition Nostradamus tour so I can pick one to go to. I voted Glenn & Ken for the best duel guitar team yesterday, but I can't believe Slipknot is ahead of them! Must be a lot of youngsters voting. I'm trying to get everyone here to vote Priest. In the meantime, I'm in dire need of some new photos of Glenn & the boys! I saw some amazing old photos (which I love) on the 1001 Ways thread. Loved the hair Rob! Oh JDD, don't say that! That would be so sad. I know it's inevitable, but they've been around my entire life. They started when I was born, and well...I can't imagine not getting something from Priest every few years. Who would ever have thought that rockers in their 50's and even 60's now are still rockin' it out on tour. I'm tremendously grateful and take every chance I can to see them live, because you just never know. I am hoping for a back to the Black Country true "British" heavy metal album to round things out too. THAT'S who they are. And that's who we love. |

There is no other Metallica after the first 3...Well except for Re-revisited with their covers. Pretty funny. I saw Metallica in a tiny old theatre during their Master of Puppets tour, with Metal Church opening. "I'll hit you with a ton of bricks!" That was an incredible show. Haven't wasted a cent on them in concert since. Don't care about their concert in the round or any of their new stuff. When they play them as much on the radio as Aerosmith and Madonna, then I'd say they're done. I almost ALMOST had to buy Guitar Hero Metallica because of Hell Bent for Leather on it. (Why is there no Guitar Hero: British Metal Invasion????) Instead, I was relieved I could get GH: Smash Hits with Electric Eye. At least something Priest. I can't seem to figure out how to get downloadable content. Maybe when my kid is 10 years old, he can explain it to me. Only this week did I finally figure out my MP3 player. Apparently it can be used for more than just an fm radio! And as for that photo with the loafers, grandpa slip-ons and clogs...yeeeesh. Sorry fellas. Lame. |

Ok, I just saw Coldplay last night, and they were freakin' awesome! Now, I think that Judas Priest should be play a handful of Nostradamus shows, and give away their live CD to attending fans. I thought that was a nice touch by Coldplay, giving away a live cd (free for download too) and going all out on their CURRENT album. C'mon fellas, let's hear some of your "new" tunes already. I love love love your old stuff, but there's enough live dvds, VHS tapes (Beta for some of us out there) and YouTube. What does Nostradamus (the song) sound like live??? How about "Nella tentazione...Cercando lagloria...Il prezzoda pagare, e'la caduta dell 'uomo"...??? I bet it would sound freakin' awesome too. This is the time to play it, not 5 years later. Why put it out, if you're not going to play it live? |

I would like to see Nostradamus in it's entirety. I agree that a full tour is completely unlikely, and unfortunately, would not be as well received, however there are still fans out there who like this album, who see it for what it is (a fine Priest offering with some mega gems on there), and who would like to see it performed live. I can only hope that they strategically plan them in places that most people can reach without having to turn over their paycheques for the next 2 months. Rob, Glenn, KK, Ian & Scott, you guys did an awesome job with Nostradamus, take the complaints with a grain of salt, as I'm sure you do. Not everyone wants the next 40 songs you write to be rehashes of Painkiller. I appreciate you're keeping it fresh with a touch of nostalgia! |

A recording of them warming up their instruments would be just fine. A collage of soundchecks around the world. Anything they do is fine with me. They have come up with something a bit different everytime and that is part of the appeal for me. When the new cd comes out, opening it up and spinning it for the first is like opening 10-12 new presents at Christmas! Each a treat in their own right. I really enjoyed the grown up sound of Nostradamus, and anything saluting the last almost 40 yrs of Priest would be grand. As long as they're enjoying themselves, it'll come across in the recordings. I would love to see Nostradamus live in it's entirety! Excellent cd and some good variety in there too. Although, I hate to admit it, I don't think it would be as big a draw as Priest playing their older stuff. Lots of people I talked to prior to their show here this summer, were only interested in hearing the old stuff. I wouldn't be surprised to see them play select cities for a short tour of Nostra. I hope they use a map and pick cities that are accessible for most of us. We do have one of the newest arenas..Something to think about fellas! Great sound here and we're central... |

No contest. Rob Halford. He's got a variety of range, moods and voices that is unmatched. Freddie Mercury, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate are right up there too. So when are we ever going to hear from the 3 Tremors? That's a show I'd love to see! |

Wow, Rob is something else, isn't he! Thank you Rob for sharing the gift of your beautiful voice! I like most of his work, including some gems off of Two-Voyeurs, my two favourites: I Am A Pig and Deep In The Ground. Awesome songs! Don't much from Fight except off YouTube, sounds raunchy! Off of his two Halford efforts, I love love Resurrection, Silent Screams, Twist & Drive, but the whole cd is great. From Crucible, I love Crucible, Weaving Sorrow, She, Trail of Tears & the amazing Sun. Tremendous song! (Am just rediscovering this one...) But wow, he's outdone himself with Nostradamus. A true masterpiece. Thanks for that! |

No. NO..No...Uh...yes.
Well first impressions by lots of people I talked to was that Nostradamus was self-indulgent & pompous. Even a terrible review here in the paper, though it was a combination review with Motley Crue's new Saints in Los Angeles. How the two even compare...Well they don't. I used to like Crue more in my teens, but I feel I've long outgrown their drugs, party & pussy themes. Priest is on a whole other level, where I don't think Crue's really evolved that much, and certainly not lyrically. They are who they are. Bless'em. That first impression by the guy writing the article didn't do Priest any favours whatsoever, at the same time RAVING about Crue's SILA. After more in depth listens, the true Nostradamus is shining through as nothing short of a masterpiece. It has a few Vegas-y moments, but this is one of my top 3 works of theirs. It's amazing and I can't get enough of it! I am actually quite happy that they released it in a double CD format and didn't cut it down to one CD, so that you can get MORE. It goes to 11. I also agree that their promotional people SUCK and I can say confidently that I never hear any Nostradamus on the radio and very RARELY ever hear JP at all. Occasionally it'll be You've Got Another Thing Coming. How sad. I will definitely see Nostradamus if they play here or near here, but I agree that it will likely not be as big a draw as their Priest Feast tour. JP are very underrated.
I read in a bio about them that they keep "playing to the same 10,000 people" (or whatever the number was) and they don't know how to change that, well...Maybe better promotion and video choices. I don't know. I'll just keep raving about them to friends & family & playing the music subliminally in the background when my boys are in the van enroute to soccer practice or a mall trip! (My 4 year old is a Halford fan already & both ask for Love Bites. Reminds them of the music in Bowser's Castle in SuperMario World!)

I was never a fan of this song & would (gasp) skip over it. It has since become one of my most played songs on Nostradamus and I just love it. Yes it does sound like Black Sabbath, but this is JP playing and Rob singing, therefore I love it more. Lots of atmosphere in both songs & tremendously doomy & gloomy. Rob just sounds very maniacal when he ends his verses with the crazy mental screams! He delivers it bang on. |

Anyway, my monster metal faves from Priest: Persecution, Death, Some Heads Are Gonna Roll, Dissident Aggressor, Hell Patrol, Rapid Fire....Well..the list goes on. Lotsa monster metal songs to be found! Something for everyone. (An aside, another amazing MONSTER song, Silent Screams, from Halford.) |

Naah...It has to be Winnipeg!......By the way, I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow Glenn, and on Monday for you Ken! Best wishes to you both! XOXO |

I agree with all of Angry-Rocker's hair raising moments, but I want to include the psycho demented screams in Death. "And I will be your last regreeeeeeet!" "Tearing - every soul apaaaart" "Welcome to my rituaaaaaal". Gives me the shivvies just thinking about it! Yes definitely the italian parts "nella tentazione, cercando la gloria..." I also love the organ part in Persecution just prior to (and including) the super fast "They will not eradicate me, break my will or suffocate me. I will subjugate the hate that they breed". When I listen to it, I picture Glenn playing a crazy old organ up on a pedestal, and rocking it back & forth, a la Deep Purple. (I think that's who I saw rocking a keyboard during a song...Maybe I dreamed it..) Then Rob breaks into his rapid fire lyrics. How can you not love this band?? I'm really quite bananas about them. There is no comparison. So much talent and the balls to go where they want to musically, despite virtually no airplay on the radio & little promotion. Gee, who's in it for the fans and the music. Thanks Rob, Glenn, Ian, Ken & Scott! From the bottom and the top of my heart. XO. |

I love Sin after Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny, though Defenders and Nostradamus have probably had the most listens over the years (months for Nostradamus). The more I listen to it, the more impressed I am. I didn't think much of the song Death, but now, it's as though the messenger was once a vocal virtuoso, but now twisted and demented, bringing chills down your spine. Monstrous CD! |

I just ordered.....(wait for it)...Point of Entry. I have all the Priest stuff on vinyl, all the way up to and including Painkiller, but since I have no vinyl player anymore, I'm working my way through the cd library now. Have almost everything except things like the Hero, Hero double set, and some live stuff. Haven't listened to Point of Entry easily in about 15 years. But I must say, I have never seen a JP skin for the GH guitar! That is cool! Now I have another reason to search eBay. Thanks for the pics! |

Sorry about the cancellation NZ, but OMG!!! Just came back from seeing the mighty Priest play in Winnipeg, and they were amazing!! The setlist was the same as what MapleSyrup mentioned in this thread, and I was very impressed by the band! In a way I'm disappointed it's over now since it'll likely be another 3+ years before I see them again. Unless they play somewhere closeby for the Nostradamus set. They mentioned in a radio interview that they would do shows of the whole CD in 2009, but I can just imagine that it won't be in all the places they're playing now. That CD is amazing. Love it! Thanks for the awesome shows boys, you impress me time and again! See you soon. |

First off, I just want to thank Nikitah Imani for your post. I completely agree with you. If the band doesn't challenge themselves musically, then are they just in it for the money?? That's the impression I get. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck has drawn Judas Priest so close to my heart! Part of the appeal is they've covered so many different styles, so if I feel summery and want to listen to something light, I can throw in Turbo. If I need to be more aggressive/assertive, I throw in Defenders or Painkiller. If I'm feeling old school, then I throw in Rocka Rolla or Sad Wings of Destiny (one of my all time favorites). I have all of the Priest catalogue with Rob Halford, and though I've listened to Priest with Tim Owens (ie, Hell is Home) I can't bring myself to get into those CDs. Which really isn't fair to the rest of the band that kept slogging away while Rob was off doing his thing. So basically the band has created an entire discography that covers virtually every mood you might be in, which is in effect GENIUS but also tremendously DIABOLICAL!! Why go anywhere else, when you get it all here. (Except for country of course! Which I'm not enamoured with, though I don't hate it.) Nostradamus is just the icing on the cake really. I love classical music, and have been to musicals and Vegas shows, so to have a heavy metal, or better yet, Priest version of a heavy metal opera to listen to. AWE-SOME! I was a bit leery about the whole idea at first, but who the h*ll was I kidding?! IT'S PRIEST! What's not to love! I've been listening to these 2 cds for 2 weeks already and can't get enough. I have thrown in a little Halford (Resurrection) and some old Priest just mix it up a bit, so I don't od on it, but essentially I wake up with Nostradamus tunes in my head and go to sleep with them swimming around up there. Thanks a lot guys!
I am very excited about the band coming to Winnipeg, however, I am mildly disappointed to discover that it won't be the full on Nostradamus show. Now I'm trying to figure out where the full shows will be, and how much it's going to cost me to fly there! I hope they do some Canadian Nostradamus shows, or even Minneapolis. That's a short jaunt for us and maybe I can convince the hubby and boys to come out with me. Either way, the concert will be awesome and I am so glad they are coming back again.
Thanks for the brilliant new cd boys! It is a masterpiece! |
