TOPIC: Farewell Priest
[j-rock] Tuesday, December 07, 2010 3:36:29 PM
Wow.  This news caught me off-guard this morning!    But the J.P. boyz have definitely earned their retirement.

Here's hoping that the EPITAPH tour comes through the U.S., specifically the San Francisco Bay Area!  Gotta give them a fond farewell, y'know.

I'm not sure if anyone on here knew this, but earlier this month, Dio had to cancel the European leg of his tour. This is why: http://www.ronniejamesdio.com/index.asp

I'm glad they caught it early and he's getting treatment already. You can beat this thing, R.J.D.! Well wishes to him and his family.

I listened to the whole cd.  I really liked it!  Yay, I now have some other hot rockin' holiday tunes besides Trans-Siberian Orchestra to put a smile on my face.  Great job, HALFORD!

When I first heard/read that Rob was going to be doing a Xmas album, I was wondering what it was going to sound like--was he going to do like choral stuff like what we deal with at Mass, or what?  I figured I was going to get it when it came out, just out of curiosity.  The pundits on another site I participate on were all groaning "Oh no, what the f*ck is he doing?".

I found "Winter Songs" at a local cd shop a couple of days ago.  I listened to some of it in my car (where it still is).  I was grinning from ear-to-ear!   Awesome that he and the band did the songs metal!!   Can't wait to hear the rest of it, 'tis the season, y'know.     If I go to Candlelight Mass this Xmas Eve, I'll have Halford's version of the songs running through my mind.
TOPIC: Coverdale Cancels Tour
[j-rock] Wednesday, August 12, 2009 1:23:08 PM
I had just read this about this on Whitesnake's website.  Hope David has a safe recovery, no matter how long it takes.

Official Announcement   8-12-2009

"Unfortunately, last night at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, Whitesnake had to cut their performance short due to Mr Coverdale experiencing considerable pain in his vocal chords. He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks & then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that Whitesnake will not be appearing on the remainder of the US tour with Judas Priest, Whitesnake sincerely regrets any disappointment this may cause."

My understanding is that J.P. helped pick up the slack and put on a longer show?  I wonder if J.P. did that for the Phoenix, AZ show, since David had to cancel out, due to laryngitis?  I learned about this through W.S.' "BBS" section.

I was at the Paso Robles show (back in row S, way off to the left, which wasn't alot of fun IMHO) first.  I have never been to this venue before, so I had a lot of fun exploring the grounds.  I wonder if the WS & JP guys did?  heh  Both bands played great setlists.  I definitely enjoyed all the music, and all the guys from both bands looked and sounded terrific.  The central coast area is a nice getaway, and I enjoyed my time there immensely.

I was originally planning to go to the Concord (my hometown) show on Friday, but could not procure a satisfactory ticket (i.e. very close to the stage), when I checked the 'net at my motel in S.L.O., so I decided on Friday morning to go check out the Marysville show with a couple of my pals instead.  I'm glad I was able to procure a general admission pit ticket before I left S.L.O. Friday morning, with all the troublesome b.s. Live Nation puts us through!!  My friends and I got to the S.T.Amp. late, but we were able to get up front before Tesla started.  I planted myself center/left, between Rob & KK turf.  Tesla was good, Whitesnake was typically refreshingly fun & awesome, and JP was eye-popping and happy aaaaaahhhhh up close there.  My throat still hurts from yelling along with all of WS & JP's songs!  It was my goal to see Glenn & KK up close, and I sure got to!  Nothing like seeing their twin-axe attack in front of me.  Great set list, great sound, and a ton o'fun, despite the massive crush up there.

Oh, and I had never seen a crowd-surfer during WS before!  Hah, I luved this pairing of bands immensely!!!

I bought what you did at the Paso Robles show--that same tee-shirt and the razor-blade necklace.  I showed the necklace to my husband earlier today, and now he wants one!  I gotta call my friend, who is going to the Vega$ show this weekend, to see if she can pick one up for me.

I saw on another site that Whitesnake is opening up for Judas Priest this summer!  Yeeaaahh, this is one of my ultimate dream line-ups!  I'm glad they did this up in the States, as I was regretting not being able to see this match-up when they did it in Mexico & S. America a few years ago.

I haven't been on the site here for a long time!  Luv it that there are still fans of I.M. here.  Hi, I'm also a Steve Harris devotee, as well as one of Bruce Dickinson.

Anyone else here besides Jeanine belong to the Iron Maiden fanclub?  I'm "The Party's Over" on there.  I bet you all would love the photos they post of the guys on the I.M. site.  Each guy has his own thread!

I was also at the Shoreline Ampitheater gig.  I missed Testament because I was still stuck at the ultra-slow moving merchandise stand getting my Priest shirts.  Ah well, I'm not really into them, anyways.  I also am not a fan of Motorhead, but i was entertained by them--or more accurately, by Mickey Dee their drummer!  He is just so full of energy, and hella good!

Heaven and Hell lived up to & surpassed my expectations.  I had never gotten around to seeing them, Black Sabbath or Dio before, so this was really a special treat for me.  Damn, they were awesome!  I hope they keep this up & keep touring, as I'd love to see them again.

Of course, Priest are ALWAYS a joy to see.  Interesting set list (it was the same as what has been posted earlier in "setlist central".  It was nice to hear what I considered the more "obscure" stuff done up live, like "Rock Hard Ride Free"!  I am sooo glad they kept "Painkiller" in their set!  What worried me a bit was Rob--anyone who saw this show, did you get the impression that after doing the more difficult vocal parts of that song, Rob seemed to be exhausted?  I recall him kinda slumpin' over, trying to catch his breath & energy.   KK, Glenn, Ian and Scott are fabulous, as usual!  My eyes were glued to them for the most part.

Now, bring on Nostradamus in full, please!!

A couple of weeks ago, when I was on vacation.  Me, my husband and some of my family was on a nice, fancy Princess Cruise ship from Seattle to Alaska & back, with a few great ports-of-call & area excursions along the way.  I've never been on a cruise or up to Alaska before, so the entire experience was FANTASTIC (to put it mildly)!!!

Can't wait to see them later this month!  I won't be anywhere near the front though, as I have the free ticket I got via the Nostradamus cd.  That puts me in the lawn area of the ampitheater, waaaayyyy back there.  Hope they have great big videoscreen footage of KK, Glenn and Scott that night!

There's a few standout tracks in my mind, but I still have to "get used to" the album as a whole, as it is an epic story.  I can't wait to see this whole thing played out in a theater!

Over the past weekend, I was totally stoked that the A's swept the stupid Giants in baseball!

And for auto racing, I'm not surprised the Audi dominated in the 24 Hours of LeMans.    I got to see a little bit of this race at McCovey's restaurant Saturday night (yeah, it is primarily a place paying homage to a famous Giant, so seeing the A's winnin' that game over the Giants on a huge screen made it even more fun!) on the SPEED Channel.

My husband picked us up both the hardbound book & the standard cd versions at BestBuy, first thing yesterday morning!     First opportunity I had, I downloaded the cds onto my iPod (I will get to listen to some of it on the commute home later on today), and also ordered up the complimentary gig tickets.

Wow, it's really awesome that Priest is doing this for the fans, in this economic crunch-time!     This is the first time for me that I got free tix with purchase of a cd!  I spread the news around to my friends who haven't bought tickets to the gig yet.

Can't wait to listen to the epic! in full!   I'm sure my husband will be blaring it out of his car this weekend & beyond.

I finally got around to seeing I.M. for the first time last Wednesday when they played in my town!  I totally luved it!  I was happy with the set-list, as they were promoting a greatest hits-type album, and they even threw in an epic piece off of my favorite studio album to date.   I really enjoyed the sets, props, and Bruce's little "costume changes"!  The entire band was totally on top of their game that night!  I hope that they do a dvd of this tour!!

I'll definitely go see them when they come around again to promote their new studio album (whenever that is), and brave the pit next time!

I can't wait to see Priest again, and I'm looking forward to seeing what H&H is like--I didn't get around to seeing them last time they came around my way.  Anyone know the order of who's going on first through last?  I hope Priest closes every night, of course!
