Just curious why Priest hasnt played this one live from AOR ? Classic old style JP heavy metal, yet forgotten..MpleSyrp Edited at: Monday, June 11, 2012 10:36:41 AM
Nupe: so basically the singles cuts are nothing new as far as unreleased live songs. Seems to be another repackaged box set list of everything that was previously released. Sad indeed..and nothing in the vault...now you know why people continue to download music, b/c it is ridiculious to buy the same crap again...Thumbs down on this one!!
Will there ever be any unreleased video footage from any early tours? Why doesnt Priest "grasp the past" rather than dismiss the early years?..MpleSyrp

Thanks Vail. No the festival was a long time and no longer exists. Litlle bit of info from this show way back in 1981 in Downtown NYC, Iron Maiden was scheduled to warm up for Priest but postponed. It was also a known that Miaden used to show up at Priest sounchecks to show them up for whatever reason as a sort of intimidation to let them know they were the better band...LOL Hardly (Mr. Brian Evans). Cannot say enough about the show last night in Jersey. Priest played flawlessly and my personal faves were: Blood Red Skies, Nightcrawler and Beyond the Realms. They are a well oiled machine 21 songs in all and what can you say except they brought it to the house last nite. Loved too when they did the Black Sabbath jam for about 2min. Also showed the old school Priest in them, in so many ways. Halford delivering on many highs and his mid range screams brought the roof down OMG. Richie is really blending in nicely with the band, and his solos were spot on. Tipton is still the master ripping and shredding the whole night. Ian was as steady as ever, the backbone of the rythym section with Scott. Great Pyro and Light Show too certainly brought this long-time Priest fan back to the old days and the set list kicked ass too. Full House &The sound was terrific with the double bass of scott travis pulsating all night. If you are on the fence I suggest you go and not miss this one. Thank you JP for a great show! MPleSyrp

Starbreaker: Great review and thanks for being truthful & insightful, instead of most of the newbies who would tell you how great it was this and that..The thing is Priest has obviously slipped on the live show, with most songs being tuned down by a note or two, so Rob can get through them. As I have been ranting lately, the sun is surely setting for the band and it is sad they are going out this way. The old fans know when they are off or sound like crap and we can tell when they dont have it anymore, so no need to berate anyone for their opinion. I too feel that this tour has been shaky at best, and the fact that they are playing it safe on their setlist tells you a whole lot of where they are at. It is pretty close to embarassing to see and hear Priest still going through the motions when the fire has obviously burned out, and now their live show is suffering as well. I will be there to wave goodbye one last time to them, but it is time to close it out Priest and go out with some respectability and dignity instead of this. Even on the American Idol thing, I thought they looked goofy and way dated...Look back at the video and you see judge Steven Tyler with a disappointed look on his face for Priest, because he knew.
I know I previously mentioned dinosaur band, ready for the ice age which IMO: puts the needle on the head,
Judas Priest Epitaph Tour Concert Review-Dallas TX.
So Judas Priest named their final world tour Epitaph. They should have named it the "We Don't Give a Fuck Anymore Tour".
That's how they played the other night at the Allen Event Center to about 6,000 people. First of all the sound sucked. The drums especially sounded terrible, amazing because of the beautiful, clear drum sounds Thin Lizzy and Black Label Society had. Judas Priest wasn't loud at all, how could Black Label Society have been louder than the Headlining Judas Priest?? Thin Lizzy sounded so clear and perfect and played their songs to perfection, eventhough their bass player is really irritating to look at, he's always in the front looking out at the crowd to see who is looking at him. He never once, went over by the drumset to play with the drummer.
Black Label Society did their thing with tremedous sound esp the drums. Zakk's guitar solo was WAY too long. I went to the bathroom, got a beer, looked at t-shirts and was still soloing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was my 13th TIME TO SEE JUDAS PRIEST. I'm their biggest fan, I have all their CD's, DVD's, several t-shirts, they are MY band, a part of me, a part of who I am. I was very anxious about this show and had looked forward to it for months as I always enter a euphoric state at their shows. From the looks of the band, this is definitely going to be the last tour. Rob looked like he didnt want to be there and would walk off the stage after every song, Glenn Tipton looked bored out of his ass and fucked up The Sentinel.
I coudnt believe how sorry the drums sounded, I couldnt believe how bad the band sounded overall. One of the greatest things about Judas Priest concerts is the way their music sounds live. Their music alone live is a spectacle in itself. Nobody is heavier than Judas Priest live, Nobody. Not this show.
The high hat cymbals on the left and right were non-existent, the bass drums could barely be heard and the crash cymbals were also non existent. There was no treble on the drums at all.
Rob sounded terrible during Blood Red Skies and the song in general sounded like dog-ass, which is a shame, because on vinyl, it's an epic heavy metal composition that goes alongside Victim of Changes and Beyond the Realms of Death.
To my count, the band has had 5 major tours in the last 7 years, WAY TOO MANY and the band looks like they're sick of each other and like they're not getting along at all. The only guys having any fun were the new guitar player and Scott Travis, too bad you couldnt hear them worth shit.
The band opened with Rapid Fire, which should have slayed, it didnt. It sounded louder on my MP3 player with headphones, it was sloppy and boring. The band went right into Metal Gods, Heading out to the Highway then Starbreaker. They took out the intro on the drums on Starbreaker, probably because they sounded like shit. Victim of Changes was next and Glenn played that stupid ass guitar solo he's played for 25 years which ruins the momentum of the song.
Other songs the band went thru the motions on: Prophecy, Beyond the Realms of Death, Diamonds and Rust, Turbo Lover, The Sentinel, Nightcrawler, Judas Rising, Hell Bent for Leather some song from Rocka Rolla, Painkiller. They played at least one song from all their great albums.
Rob didnt sing a single word on Breaking the Law and during Electric Eye, which is about a spy satellite, they had a spasmatic real eye from 1976 that was really distracting and ridiculous. We got to hear Scott Travis talk, and despite how bored he looked, he had some energy in his voice and they played Living After Midnight.
Rob had more costume changes than Cher.
Judas Priest is my favorite band of all time, I can't believe their touring again, hell they probably can't either and by the looks of it, they all look they're ready for it all to be over. This is the most disappointing concert I've ever been to. Shame on you boys, you've been a part of my life since 1978 and me and my friends went to say goodbye to an old friend. I would have been better off at home watching Sportscenter having been left with all the great memories of tours past when the band gave a fuck, when they had energy and passion. It's all gone now.
If you want to talk about this I'm a friend of yours on Facebook and I posted on the Dallas thread. I hope you read my review, I'm your friend and you need to be told how pathetic you were here and you all need a kick in your ass. Someone has to give it to you straight: You sucked in Dallas. My email address is [email protected]. You guys are lucky I didnt post this shit on Facebook eventhough you deserve it.

No I wouldnt. But, would rather see what he could do with the likes of any of their back catalouge that they havent touched on: Love Bites, Running Wild, Tyrant, Desert Plains, Stained Class just to name a few...IMO: Admit it: Priest is playing it safe on this farewell tour with Richie. Okay everyone has their opinion and that is what makes it great. Yes, it will be grand to see them one last time. This will be my 40th time seeing them since 1981. But please dont go overboard about how theyve been changing it up on their setlist since Rob's return, hardly. There are at least 12 songs from 2005 they have kept on the song list since then. What I am getting at is, outside of those 12, the others are fairly predictable..b/c they were played at one point ala Heading Out, Turbo Lover, Senteniel, Hell Bent, The Ripper etc.... Harsh? not really.. Did they hype this Epitaph tour as pulling out the dusted classics, they sure did. Are they delivering a very good live show, yes they are...but btwn the usual " classics" the real gems are Blood Red Skies and Starbreaker, with the later not being very good live, it is time to say goodbye one last time, as the sun is certainly setting for JP. L’avenir de L’humanite! wrote:
It seems harsh to complain about the set list when JP have actually dusted off four songs from the past for this latest tour - namely "Starbreaker" (not played since 1979), "Night Crawler" (not played since 1991 with Rob, or 1997/8 with Ripper), plus "Blood Red Skies" & "Never Satisfied" which the band have never performed live before (okay Rob has been doing the latter with Halford).
The band do know, and also get that there are die-hard fans out there that want them to play everything from "Dying To Meet You" to "One Shot At Glory", but in reality these individuals probably make up about 5% of any audience that they play to (especially on a big World tour like this one), so while a hundred or so people are going mad for "Island Of Domination" the majority of the crowd are scratching their heads & wondering where "Breaking The Law", "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", "Living After Midnight" & their other favourites are.
What the band need to do, and who knows - with this retirement from actual World tours, now might be able to do - is to play some lower key shows, just for the die-hards - dust down & rehearse a whole set of rare & unheard of old & obscure live songs & bill it as "An Evening Of Rare Priest!" (Let Us Prey / Call For The Priest, Delivering The Goods, Screaming For Vengeance, Saints In Hell, Reckless, Ram It Down etc).
Anyway, to say that they haven't actually made any effort to mix things up since Rob rejoined, is also an exaggeration, because since 2004 they have played the following songs along with the usual & expected classics:
2005: Riding On The Wind, Judas Rising, Revolution, Hot Rockin', I'm A Rocker, Deal With The Devil, Hellrider, Exciter, Worth Fighting For, Solar Angels & Desert Plains.
2006: Take On The World
2008: Prophecy, Eat Me Alive, Between The Hammer & The Anvil, Devil's Child, Hell Patrol, Death, Dissident Aggressor, Angel, Rock Hard Ride Free & Sinner.
2010: Rapid Fire, Grinder, You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise, The Rage, Steeler & Freewheel Burning.
Not to mention acoustic &/or electric versions of Diamonds & Rust as well.
One last thing I will say is that regardless of the set list on the Epitaph tour, in my opinion, Judas Priest are playing some of the best shows that I have seen from them (and I've seen them 17 times since 1983). I saw them 3 times in the UK this year & every time they just got better & left me wanting more.
[Maple Syrup] Wednesday, October 12, 2011 10:47:07 AM
I say no freakin'way. Same 19 - 20 songs they have been doing nightly. Plus, new member Richie, so no need to go outside the box. But boy is it surely need..aka Eat Me Alive, Desert Plains, anything old & rare..Instead SOS !!

Let me just add that I saw the Big Four at Yankee Stadium recently and Slayer was the best band there. Metallica was decent at best, tired setlist (still 4 songs from the b
lack album), no dusted old relics whatsover and they are showing their age big time. They werent very tight, played 4 ballads too (ho
hum) and you could guess which song was next. The other thing with this big four crap is there tour schedule is US one night, india in three days from now, playing back in SF in middle of october. Finally, Hetfield is still on a big ego trip saying metallica will be around forever, when in fact they are deflating quickly. I wont be back to see them anytime soon. Decent show, nothing great especially from Metallica, who is overr ated. MpleSyrp

Setlist will remain the same throughout the US which is obvious. Thanks for no dusted classics and basically the same setlist since 2004. OK Blood Red Skies which Rob is now basically talking through and Starbreaker which has been bloody awful. No gems here..

Priest is off their game these days...Rob was doing the beginning falsetto in the beginning of the tour on Blood Red Skies..Now he is basically talking through the words too. Proly a good thing this will be their last world tour b/c not much left in the tank. Also, they gave us nothing on the setlist which would indicate "a dusted classic". (Starbreaker has been awful) Nothing. I will be there saying good bye one last time. Time to fade into the sunset for JP. Sad to see them like this at the end of their career and dropping down so many notches on the live show. Disappointed in the way this tour is turning out and the US tix sales have been poor too. Not meaning to slag them and I know they are up their in their age, but..its close to emarassing to watch for this die hard fan.

sad day for Priest at the izod center in NJ - 11/18/11. Half of the arena is roped off and the stage has been moved up to the middle of the arena. i guess they are already anticipating poor tix sales and they are figuring the toal capacity at the show to be 8,000, if that. The arena holds 20,000. I am also hearing tix sales have been poor in detroit and other parts of the US. IMO JP has saturated the US market in recent years touring here every summer pretty much since 2006 and add in KK's departure and Priest will not be seeing the crowds in the US that have had in Europe and South America/Mexico on this Epitaph tour. The sun is surely setting here in the US for Priest. Time to wave goodbye one last time.

Priest is really stooping a new low with another compilation release. How about something unreleased from the vault on video? No early stuff, nothing but the same old material. Tired of still beating the Priest drum but they seriously have nothing to offer the fans anymore. Same crap, same bullshit management decisions. People are tired of them..once again call them a "Dinosaur Band". MpleSyrp

As a die-hard, lifelong Priest fan…I have to say the Epitaph tour and set list leave a lot to be desired.
Of course, the biggest disappointment is KK’s absence. Frankly, I miss him more than when Halford left. I also believe the fact that his replacement, while musically competent, was selected because of his resemblance to KK. It reeks of a Gene Simmons stunt.
I am also largely disappointed with the set list. In the press prior to the tour we were promised a set list for the long-time fans full of rarities or songs never played before live. That is not what was delivered. Aside from a few good selections, like “Blood Red Skies”, it is the same old, same old.
I understand that a major constraint in the selection of songs is the diminished ability of Rob’s voice, but they could have delivered rare, less strenuous songs.
If the true intent was to deliver a rarity filled, career retrospective set list, selecting a minimum one song per album, then songs should have been selected using the following guide rules:
Is it a Judas Priest original? That means no cover songs should be played i.e. “Green Manalishi” & “Diamonds & Rust”.
Has the song ever appeared on a Judas Priest or Halford live album? I will assume this tour will result in a live cd/dvd, if so the main selling point is the inclusion of never before played songs. This includes Rob singing songs from “Jugulator” and “Demolition”.
Songs should not be too vocally demanding so Rob can sing them night after night without him doubling over and looking at the ground constantly.
Bearing the above in mind, here is my suggested set list:
Rocka Rolla = Rocka Rolla
Sad Wings of Destiny = Dreamer Deceiver
Sin After Sin = Here Comes the Tears
Stained Class = Saints in Hell
Killing Machine = Before the Dawn
British Steel = Steeler
Point of Entry = Don’t Go
Screaming for Vengeance = Devil’s Child
Defenders of the Faith = Night Comes Down
Turbo = Reckless
Ram It Down = Hard as Iron
Painkiller = One Shot at Glory
Jugulator = Cathedral Spires
Demolition = Metal Messiah
Angel of Retribution = Worth Fighting For
Nostradamus = Conquest
After these you can play whatever you wish, I personally cannot imagine a show without “Hell Bent for Leather” and the motorcycle.
Couple of quick observations on the setlist from Tilburg:
Diamonds & Rust acoustic is back - Always loved the electric version. Last year when the played this electric, it was by far the best song of the show.
Turbo Lover - Really? again...They couldnt do anything else from Turbo? Serously? Out in the Cold? Could have came up with something better.
Alot of the songs in the setlist IMO they are playing it safe and are from the original Reunion of 2006: Heading Out, Sentinel, Beyond the Realms, Victim of Changes, Green Manalishi, Hell Bent.
Time for them to give YGATC & BTL and Metal Gods a rest..Been there done that for the last 5 tours..
Never Satisfied - Halford and his band have been playing this one, so no real dusted classic there (sorry JD)
The real dusted classics are Blood Red Skies (Never played live B4) & Starbreaker, which was last played live in 1980.
Other than that, not much...Dont get me wrong it is a solid setlist, but too safe IMO. Throw in Living aftre Midnight and it only becomes worse..
Too many missing classics to go on about...running wild, desert plains, tyrant, jawbreaker, etc...
Halford looks and sounds great and is unlikely they will change the setlist up much, considering they rarely do so. Looking frwd to seeing Priest in the states.

Just wondering what to expect from JP on this tour. Will we actually get something (anything?) that Priest has never played live before? Or the same old classics..I hope not. I still do not like the fact they are on again off again on whether this will be there last tour...Also, is Priest over estimating the demand to see this 2011 tour (especially here in the US) now that KK is no longer part of the lineup? Another thing to consider: Priest may have over saturated their market (especially here is the US again) since reuniting...every summer since 2006, two legs of AOR and the British Steel in its entirety. In between, a weak release = Nostradamus and you may have the average fan saying no thanks. I have a feeling their ticket sales maybe low as they have not released anything new or unreleased from the vault but are dubbing it as a farewell tour. Sorry but it doesnt add up to the consumer shelling out $75 - $125 to see Priest again playing the same tired setlist in this economy. Not trying to slag them, but these are different times and I feel the train may have already left the station (or has the sun already set) for Judas Priest. MpleSyrp

I have been a long time JP fan and seen them over 35 times in my life, but Judas Priest is now considered a "Dinosaur Band" for the following reasons:
A) They are not viable anymore and cannot draw to the bigger concert halls ala Metallica & Maiden.
B) Have been on a downward spiral since the reunion in 2006
C) No real comeback since Rob rejoined them. AOR was good, Nostradamus was a FAIL
D) Poor Management Decisions & no Marketing Plan
E) No release of any old or unreleased archived material either audio or video to get a fresh buzz about them... WTF Why?
F) Poor Ticket Sales in certain regions of the world
G) ReReleasing a 30th Anniversary of an Album, whats next Platinum Hits?
H) A farewell tour without one of their founding Members KK Downing.
Sorry but it all adds up. Im sure there is more and I dont want to bash them, but it is true. Unfortunately, they are in the same vein as the Scorpions, Deep Purple etc..

For me, Point of Entry 1981 Palladium NYC. Loved the elevators on Solar Angels, the whole balcony shaking during hell bent, great lights on Beyond the Realms, Rob screaming out are u high on Desert Plains. But by far the best was the setlist, which included Sinner & Tyrant. Will never forget this show. Let us know what made the show you saw so special and amazing, so we can get insight into the live show and tour Priest gave you. They will and always delivered the goods. Thxs.

Wanted to chime in on the Les Binks thing. It is well known Priest wasnt happy with Les Binks live performance and felt he was more of a session or studio drummer. It is pretty apparent in the bootlegs from 77-79 that Les didnt cut the mustard live. You can look into this at the jp info pages.
IMO: Holland brought a tight and detailed thump that Priest sorely missed, especially live. MpleSyrp Edited at: Friday, February 04, 2011 12:27:51 PM Edited at: Friday, February 04, 2011 12:28:16 PM

Nupe: Good call on Calderone 1980. Agreed Donnington recording is bloodly awful. The other one from the British Steel tour of course is Denver and I also have a recording of Syracuse 1980 and also Seattle both of which are good, but certainly not the quality of Calderone or Denver. Keep em coming everyone, digging the thread and discussion(s) thus far. Certainly more to come...in the meantime, this one is from Texas (Houston or SA?) SFV Tour 82-83. MpleSyrp

You like me have everything old from Priest, incl. audio boots and limited video. My question to the Priest faithful and Gallery is: Now that Priest is saying farewell, will we get one last release of rare material from the vaults, whether Video or Audio? The possibilities would say there are so many things they could release, but in reality Priest has "never grasped the past" in providing us some of the early footage of the band. I firmly believe it just doesnt exist, whether is a show from British Steel or Point of Entry or earlier? Bands like Kiss and Maiden have hundreds of hours and footage yet Priest is very limited in what they have released. It may be a contractual thing with CBS or whatever but you would think after all these years we would get something. There was a rumour about a year ago about a Hamburg 1981 POE tour show on video (reported on judaspriestworld.com - which has closed up shop sometime ago) was surfacing. Its just sad to think when Priest finally hangs it up and says goodbye we are left with only a handful of shows from the early tours. Yes we know about Old Grey Whistle, Tokyo 1978, One clip of Green Manalishi from 79-80, the dubbed chicago show from 1981.. but thats it seriously on the old stuff. I guess after following JP after all these years and tours, this Priest fan was hoping to get something that showed them in the raw, ripping the tunes and what made them so great in the early years. I can go on but I am just left with an empty feeling that without any release from the vault, people will not get to see what we remember was Priest in their heyday, ontop of the metal world. No need to post your favorite setlist here, just an explanation into why we havent seen anything like this from the "Priest vault". Thanks. MpleSyrp (BIll B.) Two things here IMO: 1) Halford so needs Tipton & Downing as part of the writing and collaboration, it is obvious 2) Halford is doing the Scream tour with Ozzy shortly in the US. Ok, Ozzy has been playing 19+ song great setlists and including everything spanning his career with Sabbath to his solo stuff incl: Into the Void, Rat Salad, Killer of Giants, Bark at the Moon, Flying High Again etc..
Halford better pack some good & more Priest tunes into his setlist this time, b/c honestly all his solo stuff (Golgatha?) incl. Fight at this point is: dated and cant even hold water to what Ozzy is doing night in and out. So you can go on and about Silent Screams etc..and most of the other solo stuff, but seriously people do not want to hear it. He can hide it, but nothing comes across better than the classic Priest material, hello. Especially in this day, people have complained that the older Metal Bands are considered dinosaur acts. Im sure I will hear some feedback on this, but I wanted to put this one out b/c it has been on my mind. Thanks.

Just wanted to chime in on this thread. As an advid collector of Priest live boots, I too have experienced the same thing in which many shows proly have a soundboard recording but were never released. The one that comes to mind right off the bat is King Buscuit 1986 St. Louis show. If you didnt record it when it was broadcast over the FM waves, you missed it b/c the recording circulating is an audience one, which is passable at best. I would try to find the best recordings from each tour/era, and yes most of the time they are soundboard, but there are some really poor audience recordings (Reading Fest 75, NY Palladium 77, Hammersmith Odeon both 1978 & 79 are a few). Here are a couple from each tour which represent the best audio boot recordings I have come across. They are as follows:
1978 - Tokyo (The video release is good, but there are 2 additional ones out there that are vg.. Far East Tokyo etc..)
1979 - Osaka (recorded a day or two b4 but right around unleashed in the east), Palladium NYC Nov 79 (last date of Killing Machine tour) FM broadcast is vg, vinyl not so good
1980 - Denver & Syracuse (Not a great recording, but vg)
1981 - Palladium NYC Aug 81 & London Dec 81
1982 - King Buscuit was decent, but not great sounding, Memphis/San Antonio official release (Live Vengeance)
1983 - US Festival May 83 & Dortmund Dec 83
1984 - Long Beach, King Buscuit Alberquerque, Montreal (extremely hard to find!)
1985 - Live Aid (3 Songs)
1986 - Dallas (Official Release), Gottenburg & Toledo OH
1988 - New Haven CT
No Painkiller here folks, thats when I stop with the Priest live boots. I hope this helps in your quest. Plenty of good quality traders on the net to add to your collection. On the video side though, IMO: it is a shame Priest doesnt have more in the vault and dont grasp the past. This to me is sad. Thanks.
Question for "die hard" fans: Is there really no soundboard recording from the Monsters of Rock Donington 1980 concert? I'm searching for 30 years for soundboard recordings, but never ever found it, always only audience recordings. There are "Monsters of Rock" LP with soundboard recordings from Rainbow, Scorpions, April Wine, Saxon, Riot and Touch! There are the full concert from Saxon on CD! Riot, too....and I found one more song from Scorpions "The Zoo" as soundboard recording, but Priest? = no chance!!!! I can't believe it, that there is not one!!! soundboard song anywhere from Priest in Donington 1980.
Second question for the japanese Priest Freaks! We know that "Unleashed in the East" Cover was made in a studio in May 1979 ( yes, the most of the audio stuff was made in studio, too, but is the best "metal live" recording ever!!!!!). The Japan Tour was in February 1979, how looked Rob on this tour really? Original outfit? Maybe there are people here, that were there, and made photos? Thanks for infos!!!!!

Ill agree with Steve here. Priest setlist was ridiciously short this year and IMO they lacked the power and punch as in 08. Standouts on the Setlist were easily: Diamonds & Rust (Electric) was on its own plateu, then Old to be Wise, Steeler, Ripper and The Rage. Other than that, ho hum: United, Grinder, BTL, LAM. Too many voids on the setlist this year and they should have played another 4 songs to at least cover a couple other albums: No HBFL, No POE, No Stained Class etc.. Finally, no one I know is feverishly waiting for a NSTRDMS tour either here in the States or Europe. MpleSyrp

IMO: It appears from first listen of the tracks that were not from RITE, they have been touched up (overdubs) in the studio and the usual audience being piped in. Pretty typical as Priest of course did Unleashed in the Studio in 1979, so they know how to redo it.

You've Got Another Thing Coming
To begin, Whitesnake opened up for the mighty Judas Priest. The show surpassed my expectations. Coverdale's high spirits were buyoed by the show of a pair albums, one of which was Slip of the Tongue, held up by a fan a few rows down from me. He really dug that and announced to us the 21st anniversary. Whitesnake kicked ass all night, a heavy sounding set and blazing guitar skills were on full display. This was my initiation to Whitesnake, aside from the few times I've heard them on the radio. I'll be getting some of their discs on my next trip to the CD shop.
Now onto Priest
I'd like to add that there were three "JP crosses" up on top of the stage, kind of looking down on the audience. The show started with a trippy atmosphere as the Birmingham (I believe that's the city on the curtain) skyline looking quite industrial, was emblazoned with a pair of laser images, super imposed, of millworkers smashing away at their hammers. Wow, never seen that before, what a neat concept.
The album, a real crackler on stereo, is presented here live, HEAVY as a freaking millstone, and as was stated before EXECUTED FLAWLESSLY. I cannot state in enough words how accurate and incredibly strong Halford's voice is on this tour. Quite honestly, this came as a total shock to me, as the live album, A Touch Of Evil-Live, just released weaks ago had disappointed me in the vocal department. While the British Steel album was executed flawlessly, the real challenge came afterward, in which Halford attempts to placate raving lunatic fans with some REAL OLD STUFF, starting with The Ripper. Holy mother of all that is evil!!! I missed the opening scream by a verse (LOL, yes I was embarrased!)-and got to hear Halford absolutely NAIL this one. Unbelievable. Everyone-be on notice-Halford is taking NO PRISONERS! The "tungsten tonsils" have ravaged us here in Orange County-so beware!
Onto the show-I have to say, I was impressed with the "energy" and "vibe" of the band, who played a show as if they had just come off releasing British Steal just this year. This ain't 1980-but they sure have the energy. The "brooding" and "stalking" Halford we got to know on the tour before has vanished. The dude walks around the stage confident as hell, crouching and looking down at times to scream that glorious scream, but is also engages the crowd more, and "moving" around more, even doing some victory laps in You Got Another Thing Coming, hehe. He just looks more bad ass by the day and year.
Ok, jeez, I'll try to keep the Halford worship at bay here, ha! In anycase, the "bored" look of Scott Travis I've heard some people complain about, to me just looks like concentration. While some of the material might not have been challenging for his set of skills, he smashed his kit with heart and intensity this night. Also, the drum sound at the show was superb. While Ian Hill and Scott Travis were laying the foundation and pouring on the heavy metal at their spots, KK and Glenn went roving the stage, ripping men apart with axes so deftly played. Grabbing a shot of KK with my camera proved to be a difficult task, as in the "zone" as he was, my camera could never quite catch up to him enough to take a decent shot. If the shot wasn't blurred, the hair would cover his face, but I got one anyway! Glen on the other hand was quite easy to capture, as I was on his side, but also because the passion of his style is more otherworldly, enjoying every note.
Finishing the show, after Freewheel Burning (a blistering rendition) and Victim of Changes (surprisingly well sung, especially considering the thrashing his voice had there!) was, of course, the classic You Got Another Thing Coming. I felt that if the PacAm's curfew wasn't so stringent, the band could have played another few songs with the way the crowd was revved up and ready to go.
The show was the best I'd ever seen JP perform. The energy emanated from the stage start to finish impressed me HEAVILY. I do believe word is getting 'round that the Priest is back, and with a vengeance, as I purchased a pair of tickets real close to the stage the DAY before the show. I was somewhat worried about the crowd attendance being that I got such good seats on short notice. However, the ampitheater was packed. I don't know how many seats the Pacific Ampitheater can hold, but it looked to my eyes that the Priest filled darn near every one of them.
Didn't mean to write a review, just wanted to share a few observations. I hope you don't mind Maple Syrup, I basically lifted much of the review you posted, phrases and structure... Great review though!
This is how you write a review of the show (newbies)! from Metal Setlists.com:
Now it was time for Judas Priest. They are to play the 1980 album “British Steel” in its entirety. A front drop with a silhouette of the Birmingham, England steel factory was put up during the set change. The lights were killed and a laser show of a mill worker pounding steel was shown. Curtain down, we have “Rapid Fire”. It was intense. The Metal God Rob Halford appeared, dressed in denim and leather and sporting a blonde goatee.
Priest ripped through the album flawlessly, yet found a way to make a heavy album even heavier and more metal than it was in 1980.
But of course, there was more. After Priest got through the nine-song British Steel set, they went right into “The Ripper”. They followed with “Prophecy” from the “Nostradamus” album before closing with an incredible showing of “Victim of Changes”. Halford hit the final high notes dead on. It was amazing.
The band left the stage for a few minutes and then we heard the revving of the Harley (which has only eight stage miles on it). He comes out in all leather and performs “Freewheel Burning” on the bike.
The night ended with “You've Got Another Thing Coming” as security allowed the crowd to get closer to the stage.
As usual, guitarists Glen Tipton and K.K. Downing were tight. Scott Travis makes playing some of the hard and fast song very easy and Ian Hill hung back while laying down the bass.
The stage was simple. Two Union Jacks flanked the drum riser. Travis’ double bass had the British Steel album cover on it along with the backdrop. Part of the rig lighting was shaped like the Priest cross logo which was very cool.
I came into this show with high expectations from both bands and left beyond amazed. I will have to put this up there as one of my all-time favorite shows. Job well done by all.

Saw Priest last night in NJ 07/11/09. The biggest highlight for me was Diamonds & Rust. Priest really put this on another plateau and there is a reason it is an encore. What a treat to hear the electric version again OMG. The British Steel set was fierce with Rapid Fire, Old to be Wise & Steeler as the standouts (IMO) and The Rage was a pleasant surprise. The Ripper always does it for me...Prophecy seemed out out of whack with all the old stuff being played. They incl. Hell Patrol rather Rock Hard Ride Free, and Halford sounded great on it. The band was flawless especially KK going crazy on Victim & The Rage. The ho-hums were: United & Living After Midnight. Priest should have incl. proly 2 more songs to make it complete, but not playing anything from Stained Class HBFL or POE left a little bit of a void. The retro stage & the old style getup were very cool/nostaglic and it brought you back to the old days for sure. A buddy of mine wants me to fly down to FL In Aug. and see JP in St. Augustine. Im already looking into flights. It was that good and Priest should not be missed on this tour! MpleSyrp

MpleSyrp Edited at: Sunday, July 12, 2009 8:09:12 PM
1 Update on the setlist in Toronto: Priest dropped Rock Hard Ride Free & replaced it with Hell Patrol. I am going to tomorrows show WHOOHOOO at PNC in Holmdel, NJ!!!

No I do not know anyone going to the Indianapolis show June 29th. I will be checking the setlist though thru a couple of online sites. Always cool when the tour starts. MpleSyrp Edited at: Saturday, June 27, 2009 10:45:03 PM
Absolutely ready for the tour! 3 shows for me Wallington, Holmdel & Jones Beach NY! Cannot wait. Should be great. BRITISH STEEL & other gems (Desert Plains, Sentinel... who knows) MpleSyrp
Thanks again MG. Great shots too! The mighty JP is heading our way in the States begin June 29. Should be fantastic BS in its entirety...The Rage & Rapid Fire have never been performed with Rob. so those are the rare ones. A cool setlist too. (Im hoping). MpleSyrp
BS: Its funny but I laugh everytime I see you post. Its also funny that being a newbie your insight on Priest is that of a 17 year old lad. Keep the funny posts coming when you have nothing to say. You are exactly why there is an intro section for "new members" on the JP site. Piss off! MpleSyrp
okay, im srry, the suriosity continues to strike me so i have to ask....why is ur name maple syrup. i cant help but laugh evrytime i see it. just wondering.
I too believe PK is over done. If you followed JP back in the early 80's (as I did) you tend to agree as all their releases (except Turbo) were better than PK. Lyrics are borderline laughable, too recycled musically and the tour wasnt all that. Can anyone ever forget the dreaded Operation Rock n Roll in 1991? That wasnt Priest at their best for sure.. MpleSyrp
Hey - new to the board & a DIE HARD Priest fan. Really looking forward to the show in Dallas (Grand Prairie) on 08/13. Does anyone know how I get the presale password/code?
GDnite Vail. Becks" Here's more Halford 79-80. The necklace he is wearing does not appear in many shots (rare) at all . MpleSyrp

My Great VH question is: Why did they ditch DLR after the MTV awards and release VH III with Gary Cherone (sp)? Embarassing move by Eddie & Alex. MpleSyrp Edited at: Saturday, June 13, 2009 9:51:40 PM
Very cool HB! This ones for you. Been a pleasure to know you on this site. All the best & 20,000 more.
British Steel in in its entirety shortly. Looking forward to 07/11 & 12 in NJ/NY. MpleSyrp
Hi all, gave the 4 (sample) live tracks a listen and wanted to get ur thoughts & opinions. Here are mine (IMO):
Eat Me Alive - The true gem on the last tour, this song totally kicked ass live! Was great to hear them finally play it live and worth the wait absolutely.
Painkiller - Alot of Power behind this one, but lets be honest Halford should not be performing this live anymore. Put it on the shelf.
Beyond the Realms - This has to be from 2005-2006. Still a great showstopper for Priest, always cool to hear, but has not stood the test of time very well. Too many great versions of this song from all the previous tours, this isnt one of them.
Death - To me, this is the dark horse of the clips I heard. Sounded real tight and I love the eerieness of it. They can bring this one back for sure. Dont want to have the entire Nostradamus epic played live but this is pretty damn good.
Finally, a couple of songs that didnt make it to Touch of Evil Live disc but absolutely should have from the 2005 - 2008 tours:
Devils Child (2008) - Sounded great and Rob friggin nailed it. Loved it!
Hot Rockin' (2005) - To me, this was the best track on the Budokan DVD. Great dusted classic and live it put the crowd into a frenzy. Sorely omitted, why?
Doing very well thanks MG. Always a pleasure. A big hello to Spapad & Lady Bath too! MpleSyrp Edited at: Thursday, May 21, 2009 7:58:16 PM Edited at: Thursday, May 21, 2009 8:01:42 PM
I didnt care too much for H&H on the Metal Masters tour this past Aug. with Priest. Why Vinnie Appice is doing a drum solo in a 45 min set is another story. Heard their new live DVD from Radio City is very good. Saxon & Iced Earth in NY sounds awesome! MpleSyrp
Dont know what to think about a new live album from 2005 - 2008. I will tell you, it'll be touched up quite a bit in studio (Overdubs) which is the norm. I guess any early unreleased stuff is already out there and we already know Priest does not "grasp the past" like Kiss or Maiden, which sucks.
Hey Hellrider & Spapd. I do indeed like this thread. Goin to the 07/11 Nj & 07/12Jones Beach shows. Should be fantastic BSteel in its entirety WOW! MpleSyrp
Good evening everyone. The Priest are heading are way US. Should prove to be very nice indeed. Of course The Rage & Rapid Fire off of BS are the only ones Priest has not performed live with Rob. I said Rob for all of checking at home. MpleSyrp
Once again, Priest's set list on this summer tour will be shortened due to the third band Pop Evil and the famous Noise Curfew. Last year Sinner & Death were ommitted in the states on the MM tour. Can only wonder what classic we'll miss out on this year! WTF!!! MpleSyrp
Hey Vail: Maybe we should use it as the cover of office of M B B B. The committe already said my cover was worth $100 so I'll take it out of the kitty right now. It is an original! MpleSyrp Edited at: Friday, May 01, 2009 10:39:37 PM
Priest easily for me (always) but the early tours were Priest with Maiden (Dianno) 81 Killers were awesome. Here's S Harris at Radio City 87. Notice the billboard with QR. MpleSyrp
Scorpion: You going to PNC & Jones Beach? I got PNC tix, 4 sect 104 row N. They were almost a hundred per tix with the fees & parking. Once again, WTF? I think I paid $78 last year for closer seats. I am gonna agree with Necro here and state that NSTRDMS was a disappointment as well. Too long, interludes intros blah blah blah. Hardly any substance of Priest HM were used to. They missed badly on this one. Also, there has been a lot of BS about it being the highest chart topper for Priest upon its release (#12 in the US or something).. we all know that it dropped like a bag of cement upon its release. Furthermore, Priest made a buisness decision not to play it live in its entirety, which is telling. Too much drivel and hogwash... Sorry but I dont belive in the NSTDMS release.. MpleSyrp
Wow that Some Kind of Monster DVD from 2001 blew total ass. What were they (Metallica) thinking? They really had some bad albums after their heads grew way too big from the Black Album which sucks too..
Afternoon Ladies! Vail Outstanding Shots. Waiting for the July tix for JP to go on sale. Wow, we get Rapid Fire & The Rage which Priest has never played live. Should be great! British Steel Tour Shot 1980 for the Sinful D. MpleSyrp
Phantom has the correct answer (B. He gets 250 points and 100 more if he has the semi-rare recording within his library. If he does that give him 350 more points and put him over the top for the free dinner at Fishbone US (Only). Does he or does he not have the JP Audio Files 82? MpleSyrp Edited at: Friday, March 20, 2009 10:21:36 PM
OK since we have no one who is qualified in Jr Jepordy... The next trivia question is: What were the JP Audio files? Released as B Side to Take these Chains 82 single.. These files were thought to contain "what" for the Judas Priest fan in 1982:
A) An interview & update to the next shows on the current tour SFV with JP..
B) A Biographical release & reference of the (CBS) JP albums from 1977 up to 1982.
C) Live Recordings from the SFV show San Antonio King Buscuit?
The answer is.. (I have this recording, it is somewhat rare. Ever heard it? MpleSyrp

British Steel in its entirety this summer 2009 should be a treat: Never performed live by Priest - The Rage & Rapid Fire.. and yes United was played live b4.. All the others I can give you a year/tour that it was last performed. Ex. Dont have to be Old to be Wise - last was 81 POE tour. MpleSyrp Edited at: Friday, March 20, 2009 7:59:47 PM
Ive listened to Nostradamus many many times. It failed to hit the mark for me, Travis mailed this one in on the drums. Epic masterpiece? hardly..
Alot of drivel and moody interludes, not enough substance. 2 CDS of this? I dont believe...and heres to hopin they dont bring NSTDMS live, especially in these troubled economic times...MpleSyrp

What an awesome gig! Megadeth was my favourite overall because I know the songs/lyrics inside out, but there's no doubt that Priest were technically the best and put on an amazing show! Testament I was looking forward to the most, and was a little let down by average sound clarity on the vocals but still really enjoyed them.

JT: Are you a drummer too? You seem to know alot about drums (drum specs wow..) in general and about the "big hard rock sound" from the 80's. You also mention the studio too...(like you know). All Im saying is Travis plays the older material with no detail and leaves out the intricate parts of the songs. Did you see Holland w/ JP live in your day or are you going off your SFV video? Also stage presence behind what? the drums?
Also, Travis has been criticized (sp?) on the last 2 JP releases: AOR & NSTRDMS "of mailing it in" in the studio on his drum playing...I'll give you Painkiller but after that....not much
Everyone has an opinion & that's whats great. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by JT_Small_Deadly_Space from Friday, February 13, 2009 4:25:53 AM)
JT_Small_Deadly_Space wrote:
Oh man please, Holland was a great time keeper and all but he had as much stage presence as a wet fart. As for having the thump, that was down to the drum specs alone, back in the 80's kits were made with larger and deeper sized toms for a more hard rock feel, hence the intense sound of the kit on albums such as Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. Travis uses a kit more for modern metal with a clean cut sound but is not as deep. His toms are way smaller and he uses a much smaller kit than what Holland did. But Travis plays with way more power i mean have you seen the size of him? and if you disagree, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q794_DEWOuE) should prove that point. I agree sometimes he looks bored but its because he is used to challenging himself with technical drumming from the likes of Racer X, Painkiller and Angel of Retribution. He still entertains the crowd massively with such stunts as stick throwing.. and catching, stick twirling, hand switching on some songs and interacting with the crowd. His double bass work is flawless for what he does and it puts him light years ahead of Holland. At least he manages to play songs from the Simon Philips/ Les Binks era correctly as Holland failed miserably at that i mean listen to Sinner and Victim of Changes from the Live Vengeance 82 DVD (i know Les didn't record on Sad Wings od Destiny but his version is much better than Alan Moore's) which Scott plays perfectly.
Long live Scott and the rest of the metal Gods!

Listen to Travis play any of the Pre-Painkiller stuff and he does not have the thump nor does he play the parts with the same intensity as Holland. The Ripper, Desert Plains etc.. I'll take Holland anyday on the old stuff. Travis is all dry run sounding without the parts. Even when they did Devils Child on this past tour, Travis played it with no emotion like he has somewhere to go.. Do not compare the ERA's please!

ICM: I just saw Metallica last Sat. Night (01/31/09) in NJ. They kicked major ass, best fuckin show Ive seen in 15 years. Better than JP & Maiden this past summer.. Their new album is pretty damn good. The other thing that is very comendable by Tallica is the fact they mix up their old stuff on the setlist every night (something Priest doesnt do either). Finally, they give you a free download of the show you attended as part of the ticket purchase! And Priest gave us what this past summer for the money? Meet & Greet at an outrageous price, Too many bands on the bill (which shortened Priest's set.. No Sinner etc.) and the bullcock & lame NSTRDMS release! If you ask me, Metallica does not suck!

The Black Album - Metallica
You always get some jackass in a pickup who pulls up at a Tailgate Party (Concert, Football/Baseball game etc..) and blasts this one. If you know anything about Metallica this signalled the end for them. Once Bob Cock got involved it was over.. If u know anyone who pulls this shit, rip the CD out of their truck and stomp on it. Awful Metallica. Mple Syrp

I too was "intrigued" by the song titles of NSTDMS before the release. Then you listen to it more than a few times and you realize how long and boring it is. Too much drivel and not enough hard rockin style substance.. I'll be hard pressed to see it live in its entirety, unless they include some classics at the end..MpleSyrp

Also, in case no one has noticed.. Metallica is not playing Battery or Creeping Death on their current tour which is just sad. Less and Less of the Cliff Burton material. Lets be honest he was the "straw that stirred the drink" of Metallica and made them great (back then). Like the new album, but it aint nothing like the old shit w/ Cliff. And as previously posted in this thread, I too feel the Black Album signaled the end for them. MSyrup Edited at: Thursday, November 13, 2008 10:57:35 PM

IMO: The NSTRDMS material was a bit boring live, compared with the classics in the setlist.

VOM: First of all I am incorrect. It is the sound house tapes, not road house. Recorded in 1979, it is a 3 song EP of the early maiden. Clive Burr isnt even on the recording. Here is what I was able to pull off from Wikiepdia. I do have an mp of one of the songs (Prowler) and it is a bit different from the first IM LP. Anyway, you can proly find this on e-bay or a regarded old vinyl shop. Good speaking to you! MSyrup
The Soundhouse Tapes is an EP by Iron Maiden. The Soundhouse Tapes are the very first recordings of Iron Maiden. Released on 9 November1979, it features three songs taken from the demo tape Spaceward. The songs were recorded by the band on New Year's Eve 1978/79. The three tracks - "Prowler", "Invasion" and "Iron Maiden" - appear in rougher form than they would later be heard on the first Iron Maiden album and subsequent singles. The fourth song from the demo - "Strange World" - would also appear on Iron Maiden. The song was not included in The Soundhouse Tapes because the band wasn't happy with the recording quality. A demo of Transylvania, presumably from the same recording sessions (or at least the same era), has been floating around on the internet for some time as well.
The EP was extremely successful, selling all 5,000 copies of its initial pressing by mail order in less than a week.
The Soundhouse Tapes have been bootlegged several times, as well as being re-released by the band in full on the 4 LP vinyl version of the Best of the Beast box set, and spread over singles and the two CD version released around the same time.
The Soundhouse Tapes' title was taken from The Soundhouse club. This was a heavy metal disco run primarily out of the Prince of Wales pub in Kingsbury, North West London by NWOBHM pioneer Neal Kay. Iron Maiden would play regular gigs at The Soundhouse and the venue was instrumental in gaining the band a wider following.
It is the only Iron Maiden record to feature the band as a four piece (with Dave Murray as its only guitarist).
In 2002, when the band reissued its catalogue, they held a special promotion in which a fan could collect proofs of purchase from the remasters and send them in along with shipping and handling to receive a CD of these recordings (this is, to date, the ONLY time the Soundhouse Tapes recordings have (officially) been released on CD.)
Swedish death metal band Opeth released a live album in 2007 called The Roundhouse Tapes in homage to this title.

Slowdown now Jimmyjames... Dianno has to be considered abig part of Maiden's past. I had the opportunity to see Maiden (Killers) with Priest (POE) in 1981. Dianno was excellent.. The biggest suprise in my opinion on their setlist then was Strange World from their first album. By the way VOM, you are a big IM fan, do u have a copy of the Roadhouse Tapes? Just checkin'. VOM: You mentioned their recent tour contain songs from 80-89 .. and Live after death had no Killers either? Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue etc??? Can I beg to differ or maybe I am wrong. Although NSTRDMS is Very Good, it is no Mindcrime. Also, are people still watching videos (they way they used to) of the new albums when released? Isnt that passe' (sp?) with the whole other realm of video now Youtube etc... I think most fans are looking for the live stuff nowadays anyway. It would be great if they did release something live from the old days and include the new on a DVD. You know what? The old footage I am speaking of, simply does not exist. There is no JP - "unvaulted treasure" of live early stuff (Tours: Rocka Rolla, Sad Wings, Sin after Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, POE etc...) on video.. Ausie Man:
Who the fuck goes into a mosh pit for Priest? I've seen JP 35 times since 1980 and I have never witnessed a mosh pit during Priest. Were you guys slammin into each other during Angel too? Maybe I missed it or maybe I not immature enough for that thing, but quite honestly Priest has never been about a mosh pit. Am I missing something (not)? IMO: Take the moshing to your next ICP or Avenged Sevenfold show and leaving your moshing at home when going to a Priest gig, mate!
the aussie dead man was at the first australian gig priest did at the brisbane entertainment center and wow man it was fan tastic except for the dam opening band what a big mistake the band was more of a load of garbage not in the least bit heavy metal more soft grunge the crowd was ready to rush the stage if they kept singing 5 songs was more than they deserveed then electric mary came on now that is a dam good band can't help fealing ive seen some of that band in other groups at some stage hell they got the crowed all fired up for the metal god to come on and right frome the start priest kicked ass altough some elements in the crowed should have just kept theire mouths shut and left well enough alnoe the rest of us just moshed it in the pit the mesiaha of metal marvellous marc and the aussie dead man toad sang every dam song we were surprised though that they did leave out some of the priest clasics but hell who cares we got the full priest experience rob and the boys gave it therir all and at the end rob did look like a roast chicken in the light i can honestly say from the bruise brothers ( toad & marc ) thank you rob for the experience of our lifes and we do recomend everyone go see the boys ( the aussie dead man Toad )

Travis demonstrates how all the drums on songs written before he joined the band should be played? Are you kidding?
Both Holland and Les Binks were far more more detailed rythmically than Scott Travis. If you listen to Travis play the older material, it's like he (Travis) is running through it without any emotion like he has somewhere to go. Sort of a dry run in his approach and playing. Holland had that excellent bass drum thump and rhythm that Travis does not. Listen to the drum parts on old Priest like Victim of Changes/Ripper/Green Manalishi etc... w/ Scott, then with Holland on any tour. There is Big difference IMO in favor of Holland. Nice try but maybe you never saw Priest with Holland so as a newbie your loss. He was the thunder of Priest. Yes, he is a predator and behind bars, but his drumming for JP was easily better. Hey but dont get angry / just IMO.
One really special thing I enjoyed about seeing Priest asides from their awesome energy, is seeing some cool older tracks with Scott Travis drumming them, especially Devil's Child...that was just amazing. He demonstrates how all the drums on songs written before he joined the band should really be played.
Hey Vail.. Saw JP last week in NJ/NY unbelievable..Shook Halford's hand upfront at PNC. I guess we missed Sinner, anyway Priest was great. They are heading your way... MSyrup
Metal Masters = No Sinner & Death. They have to cut it short because of the 4 Bands and Noise Curfews. If you were one of the lucky ones to hear Sinner live, proly the best song weve missed. You've Got Another Thing Coming
I just saw H&H with Priest at PNC, NJ on the Metal Masters tour. Here's a question for all the H&H fans:
If you have a 45-50 min. slot as the warmup, why the Hell do we have Vinnie Appice doing a drum solo and Iommi also doing a guitar solo. Should'nt H&H be packing as many songs into the set? I think they did 9 songs.. Without the solos it could have been an extra 3 songs. Am I missing something? Also, they did not play Neon Nights... WTF?
To me, they seemed a little too comfortable / and were not showing enough to get it exciting. Sort of Ho Hum lets get it over with. Sorry I was not impressed with them, although I heard their full-set tour was very good. Rating 5 out of 10.
Maybe pull out some Dio or Rainbow tunes to liven it up or play the faster Sabbath songs. Something was missing from H&H the other night, thats for sure...
Saw Priest last night at PNC. Cut Sinner & Death from the setlist. Got up to first row and shook Halford's hand. Awesome...
Band sounded really good and the diversified song selection made it all the better. I would have liked to see KK go off on Sinner, but I am not complaining as it was a great show. Thank you JP!

Ladies: 1 More Day till JP at PNC. We will get screwed with the 11 pm noise curfew (see thread) so I am expecting not to hear Sinner, Hell Patrol & D. 16 songs instead of 19.. Not happy about missing Sinner Sinner Sinnah!!! MSyrup
This is bullshit that Priest has to cut their setlist short because of the noise curfew alot of the outdoor venues have in place. Most have an 11pm curfew which means Priest has to cut 2-3 songs off their setlist. Total crap as there is no need for 4 fuckin bands on the bill. Someone already mentioned a weeknight with four bands?? Come on please. We dont really need Motorhead and Testiclement to load up on their useless songs so we get less Priest. So I am going to PNC tomorrow, fully aware of the 11pm curfew so Priest wont play Death, Sinner & Hell Patrol because of it. Testiclement should go on earlier to accomidate for full Priest set for christs sake its Saturday night. I also heard H&H is playing 9 songs which is another insult which I wont get into. Get off the stage early: Testiclement & Motorhead, so we get more of the Metal Gods. Total Total Bullshit Live Nation. Can I deduct this from the convenience charge on my ticket, Ticketass? I didnt think so.. MSyrup

Spapad: Enjoy the show tonight!! (I am going on Sat, NJ & Sunday, NY). Heard Priest left off Sinner & Btwn Hamer & Anvil last night in Camden, NJ because of noise curfew.. WTF?? I dont think you be unlucky. Magic Number is 19 songs...

Darth: Glad to hear it was a great, albeit shortened show. But, WTF: No SInner!!!!! I will be truly pissed if this one is left off the setlist thats for sure. This is what happens when you have 4 bands on the bill, incl. Testament, which IMO: everyone of their songs sound the same. Hope nobody got shot on the way outta of the armpit of America, Camden, NJ. God awful town and dont make a wrong turn or you'll....
I am going on Sat to PNC & Jones Beach on Sunday and I am hopeful they wont cut the setlist short.. I would rather hear more H&H & Priest and less of Lemmy / Testiclement.
Okay, being there is a noise ordinance in effect in Camden, NJ. All concert venues shutdown at 11pm. That being said, we only got 16songs from Priest (9 from H-n-H but the song Heaven And Hell itself was a 12 minute jam fest). Anyhow, here's the Priest setlist from this evening. To all those going to the Virginia show tonight, you people are in for a serious treat! Halford and the boys (especially Rob) were fucking incredible!

Dave: I havent seen any setlists from Seattle mentioning Grinder was incl. Can you confirm this? I checked metalsetlist.com and it has no mention of Grinder....
Just checking as I am seeing Priest in five days. MSyrup
Priest started their U.S. tour in Seattle tonight...
Two Words: Fucking Epic!
Three Words: Kept European Setlist!
Four Words: Better than Iron Maiden!
I know, I know - that last comment will probably generate some controversy. But hey, I've seen both bands plenty of times going back 20+ years and this gig was the best Priest gig I think I have ever seen (and that's a bold statement). Here's the particulars:

I saw on the Intro thread: Tour 2008 a guy had mentioned he saw Priest in Seattle recently and they included Grinder. Any confirmations on this to the setlist? Anyone?
MSyrup
Good to hear from everyone seen/seeing Priest in the Canada & States as well as Europe. Any new additions to the setlist please post. I was kinda wishing for Wheels of Fire recently from AOR being added. Anyway, Great Selist Priest, heard Sinner is tight. Love that this staple is back in the setlist. Sinnah Sinnah Sinner. I just saw Bruce in NJ. Very disappointed on his setlist. 28 Songs, some hits and he finished with "Twist & Shout" I thought it was kareoke gone bad. I mean is it obvious Bruce thinks he is Bob Dylan.. Sorry Bruce you are not.
Stick with the hits. I wont shell any money to see that crap again. 2 Thumbs down!!

Paul Dianno. Started the whole Maiden movement with the semi-punk voice. Roadhouse Tapes, Iron Maiden & Killers. They were already huge by the time Dickheadson was brought in..
Yes the same Devore CA on HVy Metal Day back in May 83. It was sooooo hot (according to reports in CA).I heard the best bands of that day were: Triumph & Scorpions. Gnite Ladies!. MSyrup

I am enjoying Nostradamus. Sure, it is not your Standard British Metal album, but there are heavy songs done in a different way. I like how Rob's voice transcends you back to the old say Sad Wings or Sin after Sin days. Althought there are a few prodding songs and some of the intro stuff are a bit long, I think you have to view it as a whole epic piece. Maybe it is a bit obscure for the new Priest fan, but for the diehards it puts alot of perspective into Priest and their careers, which is literally at the sunset. They can do what the want and it is still meaningful to me after following them for 30 years. Maybe the outside world is scratching their heads and saying why did they release this? But, this JP fan is smiling and looking forward to seeing them live again in August for the 35th time. Thanks for all the years of music and the new Nostradamus JP.

I see Priest has added Green Manalishi to their setlist in Europe. Heard live recordingsfrom Munich & Zolle on this tour and I am a bit mixed on some of the songs they have chosen to play. If you want to get technical, No: Sad Wings, Stained Class, POE, RID, Turbo etc.... Dont get me wrong, I enjoy that Priest has mixed it up "a bit". But Rob shouldnt be hemorraging thru Painkiller & for that matter Devils Child. The Nostradamus material seemed crisp. Lets be honest though: Outside of 4-5 dusted off classics, we get the same ole, same ole setlist. Well at least they dropped LAM, Touch of Evil & the lame acoustic Diamonds & Rust.

No, the selist has not changed from the first several shows. However, the Download Fest should bring an extra 4-5 songs on the xtended set due to the
Kid R cancellation. Any thoughts? My guess is another NSTRDMS & a couple sort of retreads: Green Manalishi & Grinder?? Anyway I am enjoying the current setlist ! MSyrup Edited at: Friday, June 13, 2008 9:13:35 PM
OK so everyone has their opinion as the story goes.. But did you really need your very own thread? What will you be telling us next Druzul that you wont be purchasing the CD. I have heard too many postitives on the new Priest CD from JP fans who respect and love everything they do. You could have easily posted in another thread and not left yourself out here because your "not in loop anymore". Yeah its dark and epic, has great texture and brillance but sheesh give it a chance, its not even released yet. Give Priest the respect as I and purchase it and enjoy just as I have for 30 years now. Every tour every album, due the math. Have you heard about their setlist on the current tour? Dissident Agressor, Eat Me Alive, Sinner, Rock Hard Ride Free are on it. If that don't get your blood pumping for JP, oh never mind... Why waste it on...If you bash the band like you did, dont expect to be making too many friends on this site. This is the Judas Priest website for the defenders of Judas Priest the band the music and what they represent as the true Metal Gods. Your not changing that with your little tirade buddy, take it somewhere else. MSyrup Edited at: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 8:36:58 PM
One more for an MBBB post as I do not frequent this thread. JP fans await NSTRDMS release... POE shot from KK's Mill. MSyrup Edited at: Saturday, June 07, 2008 12:24:52 AM Edited at: Saturday, June 07, 2008 12:25:57 AM

I especially like Dissident Agressor & Eat Me Alive on the setlist. OK so no SWD (?), SC, POE or RID....Cool deal for the fans I say. JP did listen to some of the most requested songs from the dude on this the JP site. Thank you Judas Priest!! MSyrup
