TOPIC: Farewell Priest
[Rob Ward] Saturday, December 11, 2010 8:29:36 AM
They are obviously retiring because they've become senile because the way it works is, you record an album then you go on tour and support it. I'm sick of bands re-releasing old material in a new package and calling it "new."  Then they announce a farewell tour to rob their fans of any final cash they can get.

I'm with those fans that think the last years of Priest have been their worst. I'd go back and say the last good priest album was Painkiller, everything since then is either horribly bad especially the Owens albums or just ok (A.O.R).

It's probably just as well because I had already made up my mind that if they recorded another death metal album that I wasn't going to buy it or go to the concert, BTW I didn’t buy Nostradamus.  Priest was my favorite band since 1978 when I first heard Green Manalishi, but towards the end of their career it was obvious that the direction they went in left me behind. I don't think it's Halford because I like his solo stuff, so I think it's probably Glenn and K.K. making the decisions in this band. I'm not going to the farewell tour because I've pretty much lost interest in them years ago, but it's sad for me because I'd always hoped that they would come full circle and write more classic stuff and go out that way. But this just proves that Judas Priest left me behind and in the end they were not my favorite band...

You all need to get a life, stop wasting your lives on a message board. But if you must waste your life at least read the whole thread and find my original point before commenting on it.

There is a person on here claiming that he sat on a bus with Rob and his 180lb body...

I don't need to stop liking Priest because I made an observation.

I am the only one on this entire board that showed any concern for the guys health. All the rest of you would have let the guy die and say stupid things like. "Rob gave it his all til the end."

I don't know why I need to show a picture of myself or my gut.

If you bothered to look I got that picture off this very site, it took 3 seconds.

After he came out on the bike he had a long jacket covered with silver studs. Durning the song he took the jacket off and tied it around his waist. He had a black tank top on underneath that was more like the top of a jump suit you would see a wrestler wear. I wasn't close to the stage but I was under the pavilion and the big screens were very visable. He looked fat too me, he looked like he had man boobs as his chest did not look firm at all. I weight 200lbs and I'm 5'11" and he has a much bigger gut then I do. His arms are also big, not muscle but fat big, no way he weighs 180, he hasn't seen 180 since Turbo.

I was at the Merriweather show and it was totally awesome. The last time I saw Priest (AOR) the whole band kept leaving the stage but I do think Rob did it much more then he did before. He's certainly less active then he used to be. He also needs to join a gym as he's put on quite a bit of weight which is probably why he's not as active, he's got to be close to 250lbs + or -. Although his voice is in prime shape, I believe it would get much better if he lost weight. If I was his close personal friend, band mate, family member I'd be concern for him. At his age touring and playing in hot humid place like Merriweather he could suffer a heart attack. Anyone from Judas Priest management, band, family member or Rob himself reading this??

Their performance would be nothing short of spectacular for young guys let alone guys in their late 50's and early 60's. There were a couple of miss cues but I guess that's to be expected at every concert. I thought the beginning of Victim was played too slowly. I don't like their guitar tone anymore, they use them god awful effects processors and the punch of the guitars just isn't there. Had they had been playing through tube amps the guitars would have been more in your face the way I remember from them in the 80's.

I liked the set list as it was somewhat different then what was posted on here. For the record I'm against giving out the set list, it's like telling someone how a movie ends before you go to see it. The lights and lasers were great as well. I bought 2 T-Shirts, The Sad Wings shirt was my favorite but it didn't have the dates on the back so I bought one Sad Wings and one British Steel.

I also missed Popevil because my girlfriend had to work. But I guess that's no big deal as I never heard of them until they started touring with Priest.

Kix is always awesome to see. If you like the Stones only harder you'd love Kix. Steve Whiteman is a class "A" front man, his style has been stolen from the likes of Brett Michaels and other 80's hair band singers. He's always been an active front man, even at his age which I don't know what it is but he's probably in his 50's he's non stop. He engages the crowd and keeps everyone into the show. I've seen him several times with Kix and his side project "Funny Money" and he always has some little shtick that he's does throughout the show. I once saw him and he would tell little short stories and things that he did while he was wearing the paints he had on that night. He said things like he was wearing those paints when they filmed a video back in the 80's, or he had sex with two girls when he wore those paints. Just something he could come back to every once in a while. That's what someone was referring to earlier about him grabbing his crotch, it's just his thing he does for entertainment purposes. After the first or second song he pulled a banana out of his paints and made a joke about it, and then he went from there.

Overall a great show I'm glad I went.
TOPIC: Coverdale Cancels Tour
[Rob Ward] Wednesday, August 12, 2009 7:20:50 PM
Examiner.com reports that after a four song  set at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, Colorado last night (Tuesday), Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale, announced that he felt he wasn't quite over his laryngitis he had been suffering from and could sing no longer.
With a heart wrenching appology Coverdale left the stage. "I'm sorry, I tried, I just can't do it.", he stated. At the end of the performance last night, inside sources told us that Coverdale had canceled the rest of the tour with Judas Priest and supporting band Pop Evil, due to his illness.
Judas Priest and Michigan based support band, Pop Evil, will perform extended sets to make up for the absense of Whitesnake.
Previously on August 7th, Whitesnake had canceled the performance in Phoenix, Arizona at the Dodge Theatre
due to his battle with laryngtis.

I just wanted to start a thread for the fans of Judas Priest that are musicians themselves. I don't know as much as I used to about their guitar equipment so I thought it would be cool to learn some things I forgot and things I never knew. It would be even cooler if KK and Glenn themselves would participate in the discussion.

Personally I'm glad they're doing it and scrapping the Nostradamus thing. I predicted when Nostradamus came out that it wouldn't be very well received and they would eventually scrap it. Now I can go see them because there was no way I was wasting money to see Nostradamus performed in its entirety.

TOPIC: REVIEW OF NOSTRADAMUS
[Rob Ward] Monday, June 16, 2008 8:04:56 PM

Alright Darth first let’s go back to the beginning and why we are here in the first place. I gave my honest opinion about the cd, I didn't call anyone names, I didn't say you was stupid if you like this cd, I didn't bring anyone in to it. I've never talked to you or Deep before in my life, I have no idea who you are, I don't know what kind of person you are, and I've never read any of your post. So then I get attacked by the two of you and neither of you know anything about me, yet you call me names and tell lies and half truths about me, even up to today you called me and "arrogant S.O.B" and it's completely unwarranted as I have been defending myself from your attacks since your first response to me.

As for my "HONEST" review of the cd, I held nothing back because I'm tired of the same old crap this band has been putting out since Turbo with the exception of Painkiller. I said I hate Judas Priest because at this point I do; I hate them because they make it hard for me to continue to be fan. I'm sick of the thrash metal cd’s and songs, I'm sick of the down right crappy music, see Ram It Down. I know every cd can't be Screaming for Vengeance, but damn dude this crap they've been putting out is getting old. I'm tired of hearing Glenn play solo's that all sound the same, they're all fast, noodley, and void of any feeling. I hate that they use processors instead of real amps, their guitar tone is nothing like it used to be, in fact its worse then it's ever been. I hate it when I hear or read an interview and they say things like "The Metal Community," "The Kids," I'm forty freakin' years old I'm not a kid, and I don’t think of music in terms of metal being this separate entity that people who like Judas Priest listen to nothing but heavy metal.  I have a very diverse taste in music and I don’t want to be included in this alternative universe. This isn’t the 80’s when Heavy Metal was considered the devils music, heck it has its own category at the music awards thanks to Metallica.

Then they come out with this conceptual album, if you like it that's fine with me but I don't. I don't want to like it, I want to listen to music with feeling and energy, fist pumping head banging actual music, not some freakin' "Metal Opera" that I have to listen to in the dark 3 or 4 times by myself before I "Understand" what they're trying to do. When I was 15 I probably would have liked this cd, I would have thought of it as some mysterious puzzle that I had to decode. That's why I used the phrase, "Mush Brained Adolescences," at 15 that's pretty much what you are. Being 40 years old I look at it as a piece of crap and a waste of time. Who gives a freak about Nostradamus anyway? Why in the heck is it about Nostradamus? He's as irrelevant as the cold war.

I was listening to Halfords solo stuff, War of Words, and Resurrection, those 2 cd's are better then anything Priest has put out since Defenders of the Faith, with the exception of Painkiller. Crucible is another great cd, I listen to that stuff and then I hear Nostradamus and I ask myself, why am I still a fan of this band? I've been listening to Priest since 1978 when I first heard Green Manalishi, but since Turbo came out I have been less and less a fan. When Painkiller came out it was a breath of fresh air, I thought to myself finally a cd that I'm proud to listen to, then the whole thing with Rob leaving the band and the way in which they handled it, Glenn calling Tim the best singer Priest ever had etc. etc. it was a joke. I'm sure you've heard a band call "Airborne," those guys are kicking ass, they're the complete package. Their songs kick ass, their actually entertaining to listen to, and its actual music. Their guitar tone is to die for, the guitar work is so bluesy and soulful, it's the kind of music you have on while your hanging with your buddies and or your girl while your drinking a couple of beers shooting some pool or whatever. Nostradamus doesn't offer that so I'm not interested in Nostradamus.

As for Deep and his physical condition, like I said I don't know they guy, I've never read any of his post, I don't know what kind of person he is. But like with you I have been defending myself since he first responded to my post. I never attacked him he attacks me by calling me names and suggesting to other people that my opinion was irrelevant because he didn't agree with it. I don't wish bad things on anyone and I'll keep him in my prayers, but being disabled isn't a free pass, I won't hesitate to defend myself.

Your arrogance is only topped by your lack of manners; let’s talk up bringing shall we? You’re a blithering idiot to say the least, and you act like you’re above everyone else. I gave my honest opinion about Judas Priest latest cd, you spout off and call me stupid amongst other things, you attacked me I didn't attack you. Your clearly a person that thinks they are the smartest in the room which is a clear indicator to me that you are in fact a liberal, you talk down to people that you don't agree with and you haven't the mannerism to debate anything, another clear indicator of a liberal.

You want to judge me by the amount of friends I have on this board, I have been a member of this board for 5 years and only have 1 friend and counting this post a total of 66 posts. That's an indicator that I actually have a real life and only post when I feel that it's relevant to the band. You on the other hand have been a member for 3 years and yet you have well over 15,000 post and you’re being ignored by 21 people, that's an indicator to me that you have no life to speak of, that's about 13 post a day. Does your mom know your on your computer that much? I mean I'm sure you don't spend all of your internet time on the Judas Priest board, get a job man and do something with your life...

Count me as #22 on your ignore list, your a waste of time and I'll need to reevaluate myself because I find very disturbing that I would actually have something in common with loser like you....

Gee Deep, however did I come to that conclusion? Maybe this will refresh your memory;

"I think it is more than obvious that Mr. Ward is still craving attention. If you recall, he made inflammatory remarks many weeks ago and was called out on it then as well. This is not a person that anyone should consider a valid source of musical knowledge. We are not talking the R&D man at Sony here, people! This is a person that is simply looking for a reaction, and it appears there are many that are more than willing to oblige."

Or how about this part?

"Look, if the guy does not like the album, fine. He has every right to his opinion! I can accept that there are probably many more just like him in this world. However, you will note that most of them do not come here to the official site and bash on the Band. Clearly, we have an attention seeker on our hands. Worse yet, we are lending him credence by responding!"

Or how about this part when you call me stupid?

I know there are many of you that have been members of this site long enough to have seen this schtick more than once. I can remember some that were actually intelligent and presented an argument worthy of debate. I fear that is not the case with young Mr. Ward. Further discussion or counter-argument with this individual is the mental equivalent of debate with an Australian bushman regarding the intricasies of compound interest and bond investment. It is simply a waste of your time!

Why is it that you prefer for me to ignore you, but you couldn't find the restraint to do it yourself in the first place? Are you above being responded to? Let me guess you’re a liberal aren't you?

BTW, I'm 40 years old; you can save your speeches for your global warming POW WOW, and lets see the inflammatory remarks I made a few weeks ago.

Deep, I'm glad you’re the one everyone needs to look for to figure out who's who on the board. I don't do anything for a reaction; I posted what I thought about the cd and the singles that was previously released. It is you and Darth and a couple of others that attack someone for giving their honest opinion about the cd, it is you and they that try for a reaction. I never once called anyone a name or made a derogatory comment to or about anyone. I gave my honest opinion and because it wasn't a positive cool aid drinking opinion I am attacked for it.

I don't care what Judas Priest is trying to achieve with this cd, it sucks. I am one that likes music that is inspiring and entertaining, nothing in this cd is entertaining. I hate the guitar sound, I hate the guitar work, and I hate all the slow dragged out songs that sounds like the one before it. I don't like the vocals, it's a lame attempt at opera, and they are completely out of place. I don't like the cd and I don't need to leave the board because you or anyone else doesn't like what I say. If you and Darth can't handle what people say then it is you and he that needs to leave.

I am now, always have been, and always will be a Judas Priest fan, but I hate them for recording this cd and few others. Just because you write something that so completely different then anything anyone else has ever done, doesn't automatically make it something great. IMO they failed with this cd, if you or anyone else can't handle my opinion then TFB!

Not to ramble on here, but if I was Judas Priest I would stop people from being able to listen to this cd before they have the chance to buy it. I'll bet they cost themselves a couple hundred thousand dollars by letting people listen to it before they buy it. I would have gone out and bought it just because it was Judas Priest, but after listening to it they can forget it.

OH and Healer, you need not worry. If they're playing songs off this cd I won't waste my money. I suspect they'll need to stray away from these songs during the tour to help ticket sales, if they do that I'll buy a ticket.

One other thing, the fact that they are going out of their way to tell people to listen to the cd more then once to get a feel for it, tells me they that someone is telling them this cd is going to flop. It's probably the record company telling them that, but it sounds to me like they already know how it will be received.

I didn't start this thread; it was already up, I just happen to be the first one to post on it. I didn't see the other thread or I would have posted it there, this thread or that thread doesn't change that hate this CD.

It isn't just this cd, if you check my post I've been unhappy with Judas Priest last 4 or 5 cd's, AOR was ok, but everything since Turbo with the exception of Painkiller I didn't really care for except a song here and there. Face it dude this cd sucks, you can twist it all you want, opinion or not its god awful. Just like my original post suggests there's nothing entertaining about it, it's boring and music less. After 30 years as a Priest fan I have the right to agree or disagree, I can love and hate, it doesn't mean I'm  no longer a fan, I know they can do better they just didn't do it this time. They need to drop the death metal attitude and go back to writing good ole fashion Judas Priest Heavy Metal, and for the love of god never do another conceptual album, burry this one and lets pretend it never happen, just like they did with Tim Owens, we'll call it the "Nostradamus Year" We can put a button on the bottom of the navigation bar so all those that want act like this is something great from Priest can go there, while the rest of us that know better can continue to wait for Priest to come out with their new release. We can pretend there was some delay and that the record company screwed them over and we have to wait another year for the release. I'd much rather do that then to ever admit that My Favorite band of all time released something as horrible as Nostradamus.

One word describes this cd, “embarrassing” I haven’t listen to the whole cd but man, what is this some kind of joke? I absolutely hate it, The lyrics are stupid, the guitar tone is god awful, it’s completely music less, I know this is supposed to be an “opera” but the vocals are horrible, at this point and time I can honestly say I hate Judas Priest.

I grew up a hard core devote Judas Priest fan, I’ve been a fan for 30 years now but I am out of the loop with this cd. The only thing I can figure is this cd is meant for drug users and mush brained adolescences, it’s certainly not intended for music lovers. I have the cd playing in the background and I honestly have to stop typing and skip over songs they are so bad.

I know most of you will say, “Judas Priest always tries to do something different then they have done before.” But honestly man, is this something you would have playing at a party or some other sort of gathering? It’s useless for entertainment, there’s nothing there to even consider a song. No one can sit there and say yeah I like that song, or that song is my favorite, there’s absolutely nothing there. It’s a crime.

Better Luck Next Time Priest, You’ll Need It!!!
