On internet, everything is supposed to happen FAST. That's the idea, that's the whole point, that's INTERNET.
HERE, you register and after that you must wait one month to use all the message boards. Well. One month is a long time and I'm just saying, things don't happen that way on internet.
This is not a way to treat your fans. Fans, how about waiting one month next time you want to buy a Judas Priest product? Why not. During that month you could ponder, do you REALLY want to buy that product, do you REALLY need it, is it REALLY worth the price. After all, we do not want to make anything hasty here.
Next time Judas Priest puts something out, I'll wait one month and watch how the band behaves during that month. If, for example, Rob gets a new tattoo I don't like for some reason, I don't buy whatever the band is selling.
Over and out.

Alright. I just didn't realize at first how serious you are with playing in a band. And I understand what you mean by saying you want to do something lasting, something lasting at least in your own life. I have written some poem collections myself, five collections actually, and I got them published as one book. I knew that not many people care about poetry and I certainly knew I wouldn't make any money with the book, but it just felt nice to get it published and if one hundred people liked those poems, hey, great, I'm perfectly happy with that. So, I can't build a house, there's more than enough trees where I live and I probably never get married, but at least I wrote a book. In finnish of course because I'm finnish, in english I couldn't write much more than what you can see here. So, yes, the point is to do something that matters to you and if you can be happy with the end result, then everything's fine - if some other people like what you do that's a nice bonus, but not necessarily that important. |

You sacrificed your long hair to look like Rob did? Well. That certainly IS dedication. I know. I would feel naked without my long hair. There is, of course, all kind of Judas Priest covers. The most memorable to me has been Pat Boone's You've got another thing coming. At first I thought it was a joke and sure, it IS a very tongue in cheek kind of thing, but then again, it also shows that a heavy metal song can be... well, just a song. Which is interesting - music is music and the same song can be done in many different ways. I'm not putting down your version of "Highway", it does have a certain light feeling in it and would actually be good driving music, just like the original is - if not even more so, just because of that light, mellow, relaxed feel. So, no problems, I can be critical but I can be less critical too, hehe... |

Welllll... I can understand you guys had fun doing that video but I also got the feeling you made it just for yourselves as an inside joke... so what I'm supposed to say... that it's a good version of a classic Judas Priest song? There's some dedicated Judas Priest cover bands already so I'm not sure what's the point of this video. Good luck and good night is all I can say, really. |

Motörhead: Bomber
"It's a bomber, it's a bomber, it's a bomber"
I think this song is about a bomber.
I'm not sure is it an anti-war or a pro-war song but I think it's a good heavy rock song.

Well that drummer thing is explained in Neil Daniels Judas Priest book. Why they kept Dave in the band if they thought he can't play the new material properly, I don't know. People say Dave never was a good drummer but I think he was, just listen to Screaming for vengeance, could that guy play or not, I think he was a perfect drummer for Judas Priest at the time. Problems really started when it was time to record Ram it down, then again, now most people find the sound of Ram it down oddly processed, too mechanic, too cold, too eighties. Good songs, but yes, they could have done that record a bit differently, with heavier sound and more edge. Actually, that's exactly what they did with Painkiller and fans still love that record. So if Dave had some problems maybe it wasn't entirely his fault. |

And Dave is still in jail? I remember reading somewhere that he's going to write a book about it - he swears he's innocent and, well, I have a feeling he IS. That story about him doing whatever it was, I just thought, this is too strange, probably, like Dave says, a "witch hunt". I don't think Dave is a saint, far from it, but hey, I just don't believe he's guilty of what he's accused for. |

Hell bent for leather/Killing machine is another strange cover. I suppose it is what you see in it. Could be a futuristic, science fiction like, heavy metal style fighter pilot. But what is that red on his glasses, reflection of explosions in the sky, or his own blood, hard to say... |

And, and, and...!
Well.
Then there's the cover of British steel, and to be honest, I don't quite understand it. A razor. Fat fingers holding a razor. I just don't get it. The name British steel is, in my opinion, VERY good. That's what it is. Metal. Steel. British. But... I think it should have been something bigger... much bigger. Let's say, a fighter plane, for example. Or at least a machete.

Hmmm... that's a strange rumour, really. I know that Unleashed in the east thing, partly live, partly studio work, I don't know what's what on that record, I think Rob has said he did all his vocals in studio. But, a concert published as VHS/DVD being a fake... why would they had done something like that, certainly they were good enough live band... sure, things were different back then, things were done in a different way, but... well, some interviewer should ask them about it, that's all I can say... |

Elizabeth Hand: Available dark
Not exactly the best book I have read, but interesting, something different. A bit of a crime novel, a bit of a horror story. The story goes from USA to Finland and from Finland to Iceland. Scandinavian black metal cult, occultism, odinism, murders. Talking ravens in my home time Helsinki, hehe...
So if you like black metal, you may find this book interesting.

I don't know why people still talk about "albums". If it's a double vinyl LP with gatefold sleeves then I suppose it can make some sense to call it an album. How can a CD disc in a plastic package be an album, I don't know, I would talk about "records" instead, LP or CD.
Whatever.
I was thinking about Judas Priest cover art. I like the unified heavy metal style they have created for themselves, first such cover being Screaming for vengeance, the latest, Single cuts. It's pure heavy metal and I like it. But looking at the whole Judas Priest discography, I think Sin after sin is their best cover so far. There's just something fascinating in that picture, could be a cover of some good mystery novel, it's so good I could buy it as a poster and frame it.
So, any opinions about Judas Priest cover art, or record cover art in general?

Fastway: Leave the light on.
Eddie Clarke, Motörhead's guitarist 1977-1982, still makes music. Sometimes. When he feels like it.
Eddie's style in Motörhead was unique, fascinating - fast and furious, yet soulful in it's own way. I have never heard anything quite like it. Eddie's band after Motörhead, Fastway, recorded two good albums, the self titled debut 1983 & All fired up 1984, powerful, bluesy stuff, and now Eddie is back with a new band, the name is still Fastway, but with different guys than before. It's very basic stuff, bluesy hard rock, nothing new really, but sounds good.

Rising in the east is good but there's some special magic in Live vengeance 82, raw energy, the guys, well at least Tipton, Downing & Halford, look like they're in heavy metal heaven and really, really, REALLY enjoy the music. Glenn looks like he's in love with his guitar. And he probably was. |

Alright then and thanks for the answers. So, Rob is a "physical" singer, uses his whole body to sing, plus he may need to see the lyrics sometimes when singing, I suppose these two things together answer my question. I just remember when I saw him in concert and during the first song I actually thought that something must be wrong, why is he looking down, did he drop his contact lenses or something, hehe... but sure, his voice was just fine and I really liked the whole concert, they played about 90 minutes but I felt it was over too soon, I would have wanted more. And that's good. If a concert isn't really good, 90 minutes is MORE than enough. |

Rob needs to see the lyrics when he sings? Really?
WELL. That could explain a lot. Actually, I have sometimes wondered how singers can remember all the songs they have to remember, but if they see the lyrics when they sing, then of course...
But I'm still sure Rob doesn't need to see the lyrics to sing Hell bent for leather. He needs a Harley-Davidson to sing that song of course, but not the lyrics, hehe...

That's a good point because some singers actually do that, read the lyrics while singing, or at least keep an eye on the lyrics in case they forget something. But Rob? No I don't think so, he writes his own lyrics and somehow I just think he remembers every word in both old & new songs.
But If they would ever perform the whole Nostradamus in concert, then maybe Rob would need some help with the lyrics. And I would like to see that by the way, Nostradamus is a heavy metal opera and it should be performed live at least once. Like most fans I like British steel more than Nostradamus, but I still think that hearing the whole thing live would be awesome.

Well. I think I should say something they don't hear every day, just to get their attention. And that would be a challenge. The guys are, after all, hardened heavy metal veterans.
Hmmm... maybe I would say...:
"Guys, what do you think, why does a round pizza come in a square box?"

Hmm yes I'm sure there's a good reason for Rob's singing posture, it's probably like you said, easier to reach high notes that way. Then again, there's some other singers with unusual singing postures too. Motörhead's Lemmy. The way he sings, looking at the ceiling, is very... well, let's say, very unique. I saw Judas Priest live in 2008 and Rob sounded good, on Nostradamus he sounds good too, in my opinion, but his performing style has certainly changed over the years. |

I was watching the Judas Priest DVD Live vengeance 82 and if you're reading this you already know it's a good, high energy level performance, BUT... watching it made me think about Rob Halford's current singing style. His voice is still the same, but his singing posture isn't. On Live vengeance DVD you can see Rob singing chin up and shoulders back, chest held high, and nowadays it seems he likes to sing in a leaning forwards posture. I'm not a singer myself and was wondering is there any "secret" in that. Rob of course is an unusual singer, so, an unusual singing posture kind of makes sense, but... could somebody who knows more about singing tell me a bit more about this...? |

Hey thanks Vaillant. By the way, I just clicked that "bull's eye" on your message and doing so apparently marked your welcome-message offensive or something... hehe, I was just trying to find out how this message board works... I'm sure it would be interesting to meet the whole band, but if I could meet only one of them, that would be Glenn Tipton. And what would we do? Well I suppose we could drink beer and talk about music, that would be great, with his musical history Glenn must have a lot of stories to tell. Oh and an autograph would be nice too. |
