Wrist injury is painful. I experienced it when I played volley ball for 6 years in young days. If it's painful to play the guitars, it must certainly be painful for KK when he plays golf. Since he clearly stated that he's healthy, he's healthy enough to play golf. If the tour schedule wasn't as tight as it's always been, he could have joined the tour and then retired gracefully. I respect KK for his contribution to the history of music, I just can't agree with only one thing, the way he retired. |

"Believe it, or believe it not!": The latest comments from the band - Metal Hammer, July 2011:
(on KK's announcement)
IAN - "Disagreements between members of the band? That never happened before with us - ha! To Be honest, when you're in a band as long as we've been this sort of thing always happens. In the past, though, we've always got over such issues."
ROB - "We had no clue beforehand that KK felt this way. I recall exactly how I felt when he broke the news. It was as if the floor had opened & swallowed me. My mind was going off like a box of fireworks."
IAN - "We'd all agreed this was the way it should be (the last tour). But (it was) his voice that was loudest. I wouldn't say he was behind the plan, but he seemed keener than the rest of us."
GLENN - "I think part of the problem was that he'd had a few injury problems, with his wrist in particular. But it was still something that none of us expected."
ROB - "None of us understood why he was doing this. We were all stunned. I remember lying awake that night, wondering what had happened, why things were going so wrong. But I think Glenn, Ian & I all felt that it would blow over, KK would change his mind & we'd get back on track."
IAN - "That's the reason we never announced this in the first place. We all went round to see him, all phoned him & did our best to persuade him to come back."
GLENN - "We wanted to give him as much time as we could. In the end we came close to messing everything up, because we gave him too much time. There was never the slightest indication from KK that he might come back, but we held on to the notion that he must return. It couldn't all end like this."
ROB - "My initial reaction was that it was over for Priest. It surely was the end, as we couldn't go on without KK. But then it dawned on me that this band is a lot bigger than any one member; we had to carry on."
GLENN - "We had a meeting & a choice to make. Either we stopped Judas Priest right now, or we looked for a new guitarist. Thankfully, all of us agreed that we owed it to ourselves & the fans to carry on."
(& on KK returning)
IAN - "He's not coming back. I've talked to him a lot recently & I know he has no interest in doing anything in music again. This won't come up. It's over."
GLENN - "The door will never be shut on him. If KK says he's up for a reunion, then we'll never dismiss it."
ROB - "I would welcome him with open arms. I know it would be difficult for Richie, but... when I returned [in 2003], Ripper graciously handed me the microphone & bowed out."

Since adding real strings such as violins, was a new challenge for Judas Priest, I'd like to share a link of a blog by Pete Whitfield whose blog was found by
a fellow quorumite in 2008.
Pete writes, "It's not everyday the phone rings and someone says (in a Brummy accent) 'hi pete, it's Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest, could you put some
strings on our new album'.

I hear you dude:)
If they can pull off another great album, then it's just going to confirm what we already know and that is they have amazing talent beyond (in my opinion) most bands. If they dont I wont hold it against them because their legacy over the past 4 decades is pretty astounding. I don't like every album, but there's enough there to put them in my top 5 all time favourite bands and my top metal band. Pretty much listened to them every day for the last 30 odd years and their greatness in song writing/riffing still holds up to the test of time.

Didn't mean to get frustrated with you,its just I'm getting tired of reading posts buttering up K.K. and slagging Rob and Glenn for keeping Judas Priest alive and going,it was K.K.'s desicion to leave the band,he wasn't forced out acording to Rob and glenn and I believe that.
I do wish K.K. all the best and he will always be my guitar hero ect..but from the sounds of Rob Glenn Ian and Scott,K.K.'s heart isn't into the spirit anymore and thats why I'm glad to see him leave,if his heart was still into metal and Priest and he still left then I would be more bummed out. I think Richie fits into the band very well,no this new album can not top Priest classics like Sad Wings,British Steel or Painkiller but it should be able to rival many other LPs in thier discography,as long as its a kick ass album with at least 8 out of 10 songs that are quality I'll be happy.

So what if K.K. or the band reads this, you think my measily post can even begin to touch the surface of the kind of critisism they have endured over the last 35 years? I will not say anything further on the subject. I never said you have to belive anything I've said, you belive what you want to and I'll know what I do know. And just how am I being "disrespectful"? I've said many times I've enjoyed K.K. and how greatful I am to have him deliver us metal over the years....I'm just glad he is gone now,how is that being disrespectful?
And whats my beef with Nostradamus? I think it "sucks". Its a product of Rob,Glenn,K.K.,Ian and Scott that is epic, well put together, well recorded and well executed,I just happen not to like the songs themselves......why does my opinion mean that much to you? Who cares if i hate Nostradamus or not,who am I at the end of the day anyways? Nobody that matters.
So if you like Nostradamus then the album "IS" that good. To me its not. And this "At least they tried something different" approach I disagree, yeah they tried something different and the consequence is that 4 long years will have passed by,by the time the new album is out next year....thats the problem with Judas Priest experimenting as they are excruciatingly slow at releasing material that if something flops then its years before they redeem themselves these days.
They flopped with 2001 Demolition and they took 4 years to release Angel Of Retribution regardless of the Halford re-joining issue and then they experiment with Nostradmaus and it takes 4 long years to release another album, and this time its probably the band's last LP ever.

I didn't get my information from anywhere on the internet ,I can't discuss it on the forum but I did get it from an outside source,I don't know much about the band's personal situations but this subject "I know things about stuff".
I did miss the Painkiller tour because they didn't come to Seattle,I missed the Reunion tour 2004 and the Retribution tour 2005 and figuared I'd definately catch them in 2008 ect...because I figured they would be cranking out a few more Angel of Retributions the next couple years....boy was I wrong and haven't seen them since 1988. If they tour here next year I'll go see them.

Mr. J.D. DIAMOND, where did you get the idea as if KK was the driving force to create Nostradamus? I've been reading interviews but I never actually felt what you said. Your comment is the first time I read it's KK's baby.
Honestly speaking, if I compare KK and Glenn, I like Glenn more because his playing shows influences from playing the piano which he learned from his mom.
I thought KK was influenced by Glenn on assimilating classical piano playing into beautiful twin leads as he started working with his partner.
I've read that you hardly enjoyed Nostradamus album except for Calm Before The Storm~Nostradamus. How do you know it's KK's baby if you don't listen to the album? They put 40 years of experiences into the album and after it came out, the members said that they are proud of it.
Like you, if I had to pick one segment, I would choose Calm Before The Storm ~Nostradamus coz all the essence is in it, different singing approaches by Rob, solos by KK & Glenn and beautiful twin leads, fierce bass & drums.
By the release of an album like Nostradamus, the board of Grammy seems to have changed the way they looked at Judas Priest. The album paved the way to the award in 2010 for Dissident Aggressor.
Priest's albums are different. It was an easy guess that the new album will be different from Nostradamus even if KK is still in the band.
Although I like Glenn a bit more than KK, it's unbelievable that he left the band before finishing the tour.
Regardless he lost slight enthusiasm playing live, it is business. If he commented that he's going to be on the tour, he should finish it and then retire if he wishes.
Then, let Richie do his job. Or let Richie do his job until KK realized that missing out the tour was not a good idea.
KK's career is glorious but the way he exited the band is not.
I will still support the band.
Mr. J.D. DIAMOND, I hope you break your trend of missing out the tour since 1988.

Exactly Head Banger. K.K. doesn't want to be in Judas Priest anymore,he made that clear by willing to let Nostradamus be the last Priest studio LP. K.K. isn't good for this band anymore and hasn't been since the end of the Retribution tour and I'm glad to see him get the fuck out of here because he has been the poison that had made this band watered down and sick for the last 4 years now.
The only spark thats worth a shit is the 30th aniversary of the British Steel album and tour which was only brought up because of how shitty Nostradamus was, thank god they never toured it! I'm glad K.K.'s been a part of Priest but at this point I wish he would of left right after the Angel Of Retribution tour 2007,we prabably would of had a kick ass album already had he left back then.
K.K. not being on this next Priest album is no big deal to me anymore,I don't care if its "not Judas Priest" ,I don't care if the duo guitars aren't there anymore,I just want a heavy kick ass album from Rob and Glenn and I'm 100% possitive they will deliver something worthy that beats the shit out of thier last album which was inspired heavily by none other than a K.K. Downing.

and then what? best case kk and priest realize this could be handled beter, kk goes on tour and doesnt want to be there? ever work with anyone who doesnt want to be there? so kk is on stage, giving it 90%, the dude is a pro so he probably wont stand there like a stick but if he isnt into it, its not gonna be the same. then they lose richie, which may or may not matter for the future. I dont see an upside to a petition.

Then simply don't listen to them. As of now 2011 Judas Priest aren't "for you". Using the forum to critisize an album or a tour, stage clothing ect..ect..ect.. is discusion no matter how many different opinions there are on forums but using the forum to critisize the band for simply doing what they love the most (and that is keeping Judas Priest alive and kicking) is pretty lame, and anoying and you call yourself a fuckin fan" pssssft right.

without kk downing on guitar....it just doesn't seem right for judas priest to go forward. they should have ironed out their differences and sided with him on whatever was the issue. it was hard to listen to priest without halford, it's impossible to listen to priest without downing.

Its real sad.Sounds like he really did'nt want to retire.Wonder what communication breakdown was inside the band and what between K.K. and management was a deal breaker as far as communication was concerned?Really wish they could patch it up.Did'nt he marry Rob's sister? Some of the band ties are for real. They kept it hid till they had a new axeman pry so it would'nt hurt ticket sales.Gosh knows I'll still go see it even if K.K. is'nt there.I'd see Halford no matter who he was with and he still has some very important musicians with him.
Just like if one of the 3 Iron Maiden guitarists cut out I'd still go see them.Hope it was Janick though if I had to pick! Sorry Janick.
