And then Glenn Tipton was hired by the band right before creating their first album, Rocka Rolla. I don't know. I saw that one early pic of JP before Rob, and it said that the black guy was Al. It must have been mislabeled or something. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Tephra Rising from Sunday, June 22, 2008 7:50:46 PM)

Are you sure you aren't confusing him with Chris Campbell who was JP's drummer from 1970-73 or thereabouts? He actually WAS black and had a 'fro. Early pics of Atkins that I've seen just have him with long dark hair and a beard. |

PROGRAMMING CHANGE: As much as I love the new JP, I had to put in Godsmack IV just for a change of pace. No offense, everybody. |

True.
Now, about Al Atkins: I used to think he was black (since he had the afro back in the day with Priest), but after seeing that pic of him in the autobiography thread, I was taken aback. Heh....never judge a book by its cover....right? Same here........other than being on the net, did a little work and then got out of the house, drove into Bend (about 15 miles) went to Barnes and Noble and of course cried like a girl when I was told I'd have to wait on Al Atkins' spectacular new biography (NOT). Other than that today has been pretty quiet. Am missing my little boy who I have not seen in about 3 weeks now. Summers are rough for me because he's off with his mom. Long story. |

I'm a writer ( actually studying Journalim this year and next year) so I get excited when people speak about stuff they've written (lol) Selling 200 copies is quite an achievement! I see your point though about wanting to keep it 100% in your control though, editors can be brutal!
Well.. it's 11 pm here now so I best be off now. Thanks for the chat, you're a very interesting person to talk to. I have managed to sell around 200 copies which is about 199 more than I imagined I would ever sell, so I think I've done all right with it. The book itself is only about 40 pages long but makes a nice evening read with a beer, glass of wine, whatever. |

Most of the time the summers are pretty hot (it's desert, remember). The Cascades shield us from most of the rain that comes in from the Pacific. Last July 4th it got up to 103 here so yes, it does get pretty toasty. Another benefit of living here is that when it does get too hot you can escape up in the mountains where it's cooler. Also we don't have the humidity either so that makes it nice.
Listen, I have been sitting at this computer all day so I think I am going to get outside for a little bit. I'll talk to you in a while, OK? |

Wow! that is increadible! I find volcanoes really interesting too. I watch as many documentaries on them as I can, considering the closest volcano I could get to is in Namibia so national geographic will have to do for me. I think to have witnessed Mount St Helens go up... speechless. An experience that will stay with you forever I'll bet.
Have you approached a publisher about getting your book more widely distributed? [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Tephra Rising from Sunday, June 22, 2008 3:40:47 PM) | | Tephra Rising wrote: | |
Yeah, if I had to claim two religions one would be Judas Priest heavy metal and the other would be climbing volcanoes. The Cascades have about a dozen smoking guns that run in a north-south line from the Canadian border down through Washington State and Oregon and into Northern California. I have climbed about half of them. Mount Saint Helens is the most famous of these, erupted in 1980. I got to watch it go off which was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen.
My favorite peak to climb is South Sister (of a closely-knit group called the Three Sisters) which I climb at least once every summer. Even wrote a short, handwritten book about it which got some local interest.
