I believe I read / heard a interview with rob, that he wanted to try ans write with his own band,, try it on his own, for a bit... And since that was what was going on then,,, I think he was trying to opt into the scene when he ventured out on his own.. Hence the grunge crap of the 90's... Don't get me wrong, they sucked a fat one. The music was stupid regardless of who sang it, it's just the fact that they managed to fake their way to the top which is funny.
