Morning everyone! A rainy thursday here, but I've been good and have done a 50 minute workout, followed by a quick run with the dog. I'm off to do some drumming soon, I think my snare drum needs a bit of tinkering too, damnit. Also going to do some drawing today, I have a pic of Jimmy Page that needs some work done on it lol. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Ah Nicky, my friend. Here, at last, we must part ways of the mind! While in today's view it is considered "acceptable" to use a conjunction to begin a sentence, grammatically it is NOT encouraged. Beginning a sentence with a conjunction tends to lead to one of two things; run-on sentences or short, choppy ones. It is also terribly informal. Now, if your intent is to address an issue with informality, it is acceptable and has reached the point where it is very prevalent in today's writing. The old adage, "Know thy audience" applies in this case.
In the 1600-1700's, it was perfectly acceptable to use a conjunction to begin a sentence. As language developed and people became more aware of education, vocabulary and social status, the use of conjunctions to start sentences was thought to be poor grammar and a lack of proper education. It was also believed that English was inferior to Latin and should be changed. This lead to certain "rules" that really are not necessarily rules at all, but more like positions of thought. While it was noble, in thinking, to adapt to a more "Latin based" form of language, English is actually a decendant of German and so many of the "rules" simply do not "fit" in a technical sense.
The same holds for ending a sentence with a preposition, although that one is far more important in MY mind!! Many times, words thought to be "prepositions" are really an adverbial particle (part of the verb) and, therefore, not really prepositions at all. Verbs can retain much , if not all, of their properties when used in certain contexts.
OK then! I have made my statement on the matter. What is acceptable and what is proper are far different things, depending on whom it is to which you are speaking.....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeg ka også bidrage med lidt dansk til denne flersprogede fest.
Joe, very thoughtful and moving post you wrote there for us. Thanx ! Thinking of you and your close ones, and wishing you the very best
And Guido, yes, one can fully standardly start a sentence with "and" :
7.
(used to introduce a sentence, implying continuation) also; then: And then it happened.
- Dictionary.com
So that sort of wraps it up for the moment as far as my concerns are concerned
Nicky.

Happy Wednesday, ladies and gents!!
Looks like I now rule the roost message count-wise. Almost a year's worth of messages taken out and I'm still within the 10,000 posts-range. Children, this is what too much sinning in the Sinful thread (among other things) can do to you.

I really don't think it matters one way or another. I mean, "date joined" is far from important. We all know one another and how long we have been here. Perhaps it is a good thing? It might give the new members a little less pressure. I think the real focus should be on how many FRIENDS one has. THAT is an important statistic. That is really where you can judge the value of someone on this site.
I also think the number of "ignores" should be dropped. As I have said many times, ANYONE can click "ignore" but the "friends" button is a very, very selective thing.

Hey thats cool man,I've never really been into live albums either,Unleashed In The East to me is the best live album ever even if it was doctored up in the studio or whatnot,I still think its the best live album,I also like Live Evil Black Sabbath 1982 but of course Unleashed is best. But other than that,I really don't care for live albums that much.
I never was grasped by Nostradamus so I'm still in the Angel Of Retribution mode and it feels like its been 5 years since they released anything new to me,so I am really wanting a new album but I think they will be working on it later this year but then again they may do a Nostradamus tour and if that happens,a new album will not be out until 2012 I'm guessing,by then I'll bet you'll be craving some new Judas Priest! lol! Four rows of 10 reclining leather chairs, sloping floor, HUGE screen and even those fancy drapes around it just like at the movies!! HA!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, elsewhere in the "estate", there were various rooms with huge TVs and whatnot so it was quite a "to do".
Glad the Saints won as well. I am no big fan of either team but something about Manning just rubs me the wrong way. The Saints were a "feel good" story for their state and it was a very good game, I think. Had a great time and now I am resting quietly. Hope all that watched had fun as well!!!

A message well said, but unlikely to be heeded my friend.
Congrats to the SAINTS!!! Now I don't have to pay up on the double or nothing loss I took when they beat the Vikes and I won a lunch today, thanks!! : )
I see things are running amok again, so sad!! I think, not that anyone cares, that we are ALL here because of Priest and they rule the roost here. Obviously we all don't see eye to eye at times, but WHY we are here should always be respected and put in it's proper place (honorable reasons or otherwise, we know the difference). It's nice when we all get along and play nice, but some folks just can't see past their own nose(s) to deal with what's real and enjoy each other as I think we ALL bring something unique of ourselves to this Board.

Yep, a test match can go for days. Mad I know, LOL! But purists reckon it's the best form of the game - I like the shorter matches, like I said, stuff happens faster LOL!
Yeah a Priest show with bunches of other awesome bands for days would be awesome! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by spapad from Sunday, February 07, 2010 10:29:48 PM)

Please tell me it's more entertaining than baseball with my cousin screaming at the ump behind the batting plate the whole game! I'd like to believe in pure spots entertainment. I actually saw a golf Master's dead heat in the early nineties that was more action packed than baseball. LOL cricket takes ages to play too, but there's different formats - 20/20 (each team gets 20 overs to bat, so it's fast and lots action usually), one day and test match. A test match can go for 5 days. Test matches bore me cos stuff moves slow and it's all about tactics. So I get bored with that fast LOL! Read your message, MG. It is insane. Your caps are all over the place. Whether someone or else has sent you messages where I badmouthed you, I'd really like to see. I seriously doubt it.
I have never once told the membership to collectively "screw off" as you have done various times. YOU have made up a number of different "characters," can barely spell (not a biggie with me) but have flipped like nobody I have ever seen. It just isn't right in the head. At last count, you have told us all to collectively "screw off" some five times. You have stated that you have a better site. Still, you are surprised at my reaction?! Find a really good psychologist, to study such a phenomena. It's certainly an extension of a very parnoid and manipulative mind. I don't have to read the posts as I know exactly what to expect. Why bother. I prefer to ignore it and go on with my life.
That game, as much as I am not a great fan of football, was an awesome game! The Saint's really looked lack luster the first half and then came out like they were a whole different team! Got to hand it to them! They had one hell of a great night! Congrats to the Saints, and much sorrow for the Colts as I thought they had the edge and could have done it, but they just let the game slip from their grasp.
Great Game! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Sunday, February 07, 2010 9:31:50 PM)

Nah...I've got nothing amazing planned. Just gonna stay home and do homework. Maybe walk outside a few feet away from my apartment, and then go back in. But other than that, nothing new. How about you?

Damnit! LOL!!! Got any plans for your weekend Vail? A quiet one here, hanging about at home trying to stay cool lol.
