Personally, I lean toward "a historical" as I do pronounce the "h" (as in hummingbird). The "h" is just begging for an "a" in font of it.

He used to come in to where I worked at the time with a floppy hat and sunglasses on. I would always say hello to him in a decreat voice, and he tipped very well, because he always got his food to go there. When I worked at the country club he did come in to eat there with several self importants and he was really very sweet and kind.
