Not stupid at all! I would be glad to enlighten you!
The basic history of the American Thanksgiving dates back to the 1600's when pilgrims (English Seperatists) settled in Plymouth. They faced severe hardships the first year. Lost about half the population, I believe. Anyway, the second year they were here was a good one. They decided to celebrate with a big feast and invited the Native Indians that had helped them out. It lasted a few days...more like the old English Harvest festival.
In the late 1700's, Washington declared a national day of Thanksgiving but ran into a bunch of grief from the citizenry. I think Jefferson opposed the whole thing. Anyway, I believe Lincoln approved the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving. There you have it.

So sorry I was not able to spend much time with you all yesterday. It appears my daughter and grandsons are quite prolific in the ways of the computer and have been without one for several months!
