I think a great cover song should sound as though its the covering band's own creation, not just a rented song. Not make it a complete imitation of said song, but taking it and shaping it until it sounds fresh and new. It should make the listener forget (at least for a while) that the song is originally from another band. IMO a great cover song needs to be recognizable as a cover, but not the same. listened to some Iron maiden cover today (forget who, doing Rime...) and it sucked. sounded like they were trying to sound exactly the same. if they succed in sounding the same, then whats the point, if they fail, then they fail.
never heard fleetwood mac's Green manalishi, but, priest hit it well with Diamonds, and jonny be goode. changed, but similar, yet their own.
any thoughts? |

Priest not only didn't let me down, they picked me up dusted me off and set me up on cloud 9! Almost (and I do mean almost) worth the years of waiting. I am just impatient and they are just too damn good! Only regret is that I only got to see them once this tour. Better than most, I know...

Still eclipsed by the BIG trip. PRIEST! I certainly cherish it more. They weren't coming to me so I had to go to them. As I said, gotta keep your priorities straight!
Speaking of which, do post a pic of that tat when you get it done...well, provided it doesn't violate Freeze's sense of decorum, that is! |

Prophecy was the only one they broadcast all the way through (and it was good).
Went to the end credits with BTL. Also announced, though, that the whole concert could be heard on Jimmy Kimmel Live.net. Haven't looked myself but I bet it shows up in a day or so like most live shows post them.

I have an IV hooked up with painkillers.
Oh, hell...he just showed Nostra (deluxe version). Best thing he has done so far, IMO. I best not type. Perhaps if I go into a coma until they play would be best. Breaking the Law and Living after Midnight are my calls. Anyone taking bets? No shit.
Judas Priest concert goers are harder to open with their reviews of the shows than a clammy oyster, with the honorable exception of very very few.
No mention of a rough estimate of how many were there, only rarely did I get to read about Testament or Motorhead, set lists of all bands, time they played etc etc etc. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Metal god/Electric eye! from Tuesday, September 02, 2008 6:33:38 PM) | | Metal god/Electric eye! wrote: | | WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS/lol! | | Where AmI wrote: | | I wish someone would post a review of the Vegas show. |

Spapad, you would love it here! We've got the most amazing weather most of the time. I may bitch about the cold now and then but compared to the rest of the worlds winter, I reckon we have it pretty good here (lol) No real threat of natural disasters and summers do die for! We also have great beaches and generally wonderful sights to see if you love nature. We have our big city theme going on like the rest of the world but Cape Town itself is so picturesque.. We have a mountain in the middle of the main town! In the smaller suburban areas where I live, we have mountains surrounding us and vineyards lining the main street. How picture perfect is that? I do love living here. However, I reckon I may take you up on that spring migration (lol) [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by spapad from Monday, September 01, 2008 5:20:35 PM) | | spapad wrote: | | Ah Good Joe! Just back from the store with mine! All ready to roll! Ahhh....how I love Labor Day. A very happy day to one and all.
Oh yeah, someone remind me of that Jimmy Kimmell performance tomorrow, wouldja? Although I want to see it, I shudder at the same time. Reminds me of when Motorhead was on David Letterman back in the 90s. Stayed up and watched that damn show all night long (Jimmy is WORSE, IMO) only to find their two songs so waterered down and poorly mixed that it almost made me sick.
TV talkshow vs. big stage. Just NOT the same. |

One word: UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE!!!! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAW THEM!!!!!!!!!
My sister and I got to Glen Helen (oops! Its San Manuel now...) a little late thanks to traffic, and a huge line, so I missed Testament. I got to my seat in time for Motörhead's set. The seat itself was pretty good. If I was allowed to bring my camera in I would have gotten some pretty decent pics. Anyway, I enjoyed Motörhead's performance (especially the drum solo). They had some pretty decent songs!! I'll have to buy their new album. I also enjoyed Heaven and Hell's performance. I loved the sing-a-long for the Heaven and Hell song!! But enough of that...on to Judas Priest.
I'll be honest....when the band played "Prophecy", I couldn't help but cry my butt off from happiness, especially on seeing Glenn IN THE FLESH!!!! AND K.K!!!!!!! AND IAN!!!!!! AND SCOTTIE!!!!!!!!! AND ROB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY WERE RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN FRONT OF ME/US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, my god... It was a dream come true...
Eat Me Alive was great!!!! And Devil's Child!!!!!!!!!! Rock Hard, Ride Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how great Rob sounded when he sang and screamed!! Painkiller was...well...KILLER!!!!!!!!!!! I was SCREAMING the lyrics to every song on the setlist, so now my throat hurts :P. I felt sorry for the guy standing next to me. He had to deal with my screaming, jumping, crying, and yelling Glenn's name (heheh...) for the whole set. Unfortunately, neither Sinner nor Death were played.
The only thing that bugged me was this: some guy two rows in front of me started standing on his seat during "Between the Hammer and the Anvil" and stayed there throughout most of the performance. I couldn't see half the stage!!! Being the pissed off fan that I was (and probably high from second-hand smoke), I threw cigarette butts at him every chance I got. Thankfully the guy next to me offered me to switch places with him, and he gave me his binoculars during "Angel". He was cool. Thank you, dude!! Wherever you are!!!
Other than that, the show was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I hope there's some kind of bootleg of that concert available, because I'll buy it. Shoot... I want to see Judas Priest again, but in VIP seating. I wanna get a closer look at Glenn... he's so elegant on stage... . Rob was very active during the show, running from one side to another, doing the "WOAH, YEAH!!!" part with us, and encouraging us to sing "Rock Hard, Ride Free"...and he even took his leather jacket off, revealing his tattooed chest.
Ian looked wonderful, and Scott did great as well!!!!!! And since I was on Glenn's side, I couldn't see K.K very much. In the few times I saw him, he looked great!!!!!!!! Heck, they were all so active, they made the two bands before them look sluggish!!!
And there you have it...my summary on the Metal Masters concert in Devore. It was an unforgettable time for me and I hope I can experience some more Priest in the next tour.
