Hey spapad!! Haven't been home all day but also to Head Banger,Guido and Hellrider....this is a "Wheelabrator" or a "Shot Peen machine"....this is a random
picture I got off google but this is what the machine looks like except the one I work on is almost about "three times the size" of that one in this picture!
The one in this pic look tiny compared to the Wheelabrator I work on. But the wheels are in place and ect.....its a cool job and I actually "enjoy" working
on it and have for about 15 years now....I find jobs(parts) to load onto the table with certain racks to place them and make sure these jobs have same
intensitiy call outs so they get hit at the same RPMs...ect...each cycle when the parts are being peened lasts 4 minutes and we rotate the parts 180 turn
then after the nest cycle we flip them over....then after the next cycle rotate 180 turn again...this asures the parts are being saturated by spec.
I stand at a desk with a computer to log the information in and there is a control panel to operate the RPMs as to how hard we peen the parts....
when the machine is peening for the 4 minute cycles....if I've already got my paperwork filled out...I can go bullshit with one of my friends!!! lol!!
But make no mistake about it...I do not "slack off"... I've peened more parts than anyone at that shop ever has....and my production skills are top notch.
There is also a manual shot peen machine like a small sand blast machine that we have to peen some parts that have clevis' that can not be reached in the
wheelabrator,so we shoot them manually then put them in the wheelabrator machine. We have to take a written test,a practical test once a year per
Boeing BAC 5730 spec.....the tests are usually easy because I've been doing it for so long but they always throw trick questions in there to try and
confuse you....why,I do not know!! lol! A dude from Boeing in suit and tie comes in once a year and tests us shot peeners....there are tons of questions
and ect...and on our part there is alot of "foolery" lol!!! There are some things we hide but its not something that would jeapordize the integrity of an
airplane part or anything "serious".
....I still work in Shot Peen about once a week now...so slowly when the work comes in I'll be back! (Quoting Message by spapad from Sunday, August 02, 2009 12:08:41 AM)
