Oh god, that is harsh. Necessary, but what a shocking thing. Looks like there will unfortunately be more horrible stories as so many are missing. Some amazing stories coming out of Christchurch - in a strange twist of 'handyness', at the time the NZ and Australian Association of Urologists was having their annual conference in ChCh at the time. I just read a story about a couple of them having to amputate a mans legs where he lay, using a pocket knife and a hack saw the female doctor had to do it cos she was the only one who could fit in to the area where his legs were - there was a local anaesthetist on hand who administered morphine and ketamine, so the guy wouldn't have known anything but wasn't unconscious. The man is alive, thank God. The doc who did the amputation is too traumatised to talk about it. Understandable, what a horrific thing to have to do. But it was the mans legs, or his life. | | spapad wrote: | | That quake was the first thing I saw when I logged on to my computer at work this moring. The pictures looked pretty horendous. Hope the baby is well, and has her Dad still alive to raise her, poor baby. | | Becks wrote: | | Just read the most heartbreaking story - a mother with her baby in her arms was hit by falling debris and killed the baby was found still in her arms and is alive, unsure if it's badly injured. |

It's so bizarre looking the the images of the damage, a lot of the worst hit buildings are literally around the corner from where I worked for 2.5 years. Scary. Will be glued to the news today again. |

Becks, that was absolutely devastating. I can't even imagine being in a situation like that. I hope everyone else made it out safe because 65 is far too many already. I hope that the evacuations go quickly and that the aid gets there immediately. Becks, devastating. Quake getting a lot of media interest here in S.A. I think due to the amount of our citizens living there. I hope all your family, loved ones etc are safe. You too JJ. Last I've heard is the death toll seems to have stopped at 65. 65 too many. My condolences to all of you xxx. I just woke up and saw the news. My first thought was Becks and anyone else from this site that may live there.
Glad to see Becks posting. Hope all is well with the members here. |

Aw, Becks. I am obviously reading these latest posts in backwards order in the wee hours of the night here. Just watched that entire video. "Harrowing" at the end is putting it mildly. I am in an earthquake zone too and they always warn not to run outside due to the risk of buildings falling out. Didn't seem like any escape for many there as you could clearly see buildings both falling out AND crushing down.
As HB said, I am glad to know that all of you are safe but my heart really goes out to all those who have lost. Very sad, indeed. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Becks from Monday, February 21, 2011 10:44:07 PM) |

Seems like that should be a really easy coding fix.

Really. Glad to hear that you and your friend are ok. Sadly, I haven't seen a single word of it yet on the news. Local news, of course, so if it didn't happen next door, they wouldn't cover it.
Have to turn to the BBC online.
