Sorry I left so abruptly yesterday Freeze and Guido, this has turned into quite the weekend so far. Had to go visit my Dad yesterday with my brother as he is now in a conv. home. He had a kidney removed just after the new year because of cancer and was supposedly cancer free after that. Two weeks ago he was home watching TV when he felt a sharp pain on his side. A trip to the emergency room and two days of testing later it was discovered that cancer had returned to his lungs, liver and in his bones. He's been in and out of radiation since and is rarely awake and coherant. Tomorrow he starts chemo and that will continue until he can't handle it anymore or it's gone (highly unlikely as it's in his bones now). So being in what I jokingly call a halfway house, he was up and about and we wound up staying the bulk of the day with him.
On the flip side, my daughter is at the hospital about ready to give birth to Loghan, my grandson. I'll be heading over there in the next hour or so.
Freeze, one could not claim a love for the game if they didn't know who Vin Scully was. I did not know he was retiring at the end of the season, he will be greatly missed!! I completely feel your pain, bro. Like you, the voice's of summers gone by bring warmth to my heart and a smile to my face...eternal youth and hope!! Vin Scully is a true living legend!!
Guido!!! I do remember now that I see it!!!! A fellow Priest AND Cubs fan, it get's no better than that!!! And that's your brother with you? Two peas in a pod I say!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Saturday, April 17, 2010 8:03:32 AM)

I recall my youth everytime he speaks. Such an icon. Such a true professional and a master of his craft. Things will just NOT be the same without him but I will always be grateful for the memories he has provided.

Haaa!!! Do you mean the Dick the Bruiser song? I absolutely LOVED it.
Sadly, as someone posted right below the commercial I put forth, "local" radio is growing scarce. They DID play it in old Tiger Stadium but not new "Comerica Field."
I think of spring training and opening day and that song comes to mind every year!! Is there a pre-game show or telecast on opening day that doesn't open with that song?? I simply love it!!
I was hoping to catch a game this past week but they traveled to Toronto on the day I had the time. This is twice now I've missed out on visiting that beautiful new staium they play in now. I like it that it's recessed below street level a good bit so you can catch a glimpse from the strret on the right side of the stadium.

Forgive me if I wax nostalgic but those of you that know me well know that the warmth of summer and the long, lazy days thereof are my time. This is the time of year that I love most. The blazing hot sun, the scantily clad ladies, the almost mathmatical beat of the ocean waves, the smell of charcoals as the grill awaits its first sizzle of a nice, juicy steak, the timeless dance of the "Boys of Summer" as they play the game I love so dearly and the moments at night when the warmth of the day seems to linger endlessly on your skin and the stars shine just a tiny bit brighter in the summer skies. The ice cold drinks that soothe your parched throat after a long day in the sun. The music (Priest, of course) playing for hours as your sit deep in your chair by the slowly fading coals of another successful barbeque.... If there is a "god", this is what he meant for all of us. Enjoy your day, my friends. Enjoy it and remember it for these truly are our best days.

I recall, with great fondness, days gone by with him, MM, DAS and so many others that have since found their way out into the world. Change is the one true constant, no? Such days of lunacy. Light hearted fun and a closeness that seems to evade us all too often these days.

Morning folks!!
Freeze, can you paint a picture or what??!! As a fellow lover of America's past time and this time of the year in general, you 'nailed it' with your words. Of course I'm a Cubs fan, but my love runs soooooo deep. No more from me, just gonna slip back into that place your words took me to a moment ago...thank you!! Good Morning, all! An absolutely memorable Saturday morning here in Las Vegas. Sun is up early, not a cloud in the sky and the temps should be well over 80 degrees today!! It appears that it will be a great day to do something I truly enjoy; watch Dodger baseball!!! Ahhhhhh....the summer days are closing in and life takes its slow, lazy turn towards bliss...... It is to weep with joy.

HAAA!!! Good thing Don Henley is an ass and had his song pulled.
Here would be the tribute to your boys....Imagine the song. Personally, I prefer a local Detroit radio version named after the Strohs' brewery on Gratiot road was burned down. "Out on the road today I saw a Moosehead sticker on a Cadillac, a little voice inside my head said 'buy as six pack go and get a six pack." It was very nice. But it also shows what a private person Glenn is and I respect him for that. I think I enjoyed the Hobbies page the most. He really shows a passion for fishing. Something I would never have a passion for. I like the fact that even the deep sea fish he catches, he releases. Now, that is a person who loves it just for the sport.
