Sure sounds like Rob might have been sick that night. Poor guy, hope he gets to feeling better. With the amount of crowds they are exposed to constantly it's amazing not one of them has succum to swine flu durring this tour.
Sounds like the show was great though. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by doggiedogma from Sunday, August 23, 2009 11:13:40 AM)

The Post holds about 17,000 and I would estimate the crowd to have been about 7-8,000; the pavilion was ¾ full and the lawn area about ¼ full. I know the weather had a negative influence on the attendance but the numbers were still strong.
-Popevil opened – I missed them
-Kix - opening again for JP as they did 30 years ago in Baltimore. The lead singer was very excited to playing at Merriweather in front of a large and home crowd. The band drew a nice number of fans and they gave the band a good “pop”.The lead singer was very outgoing but a little juvenile; he repeatedly grabbed his crotch and made sexual remarks, which was a little weird coming from a guy who has to be pushing 60. I will give the guy credit for keeping in shape as he had zero body fat and looked like Iggy Pop.The band had some technical issues but it didn’t keep them rockin’ out. They played well and gave 100%, and the lead singer hasn’t lost any vocal range at all, has he even aged?
-JP – of course, the crowd was here to see JP and they let the boys know it as soon as they set foot on stage with loud cheers. Rob forgot the structure to the 1st song (Rapid Fire) and KK was looking around trying to get the band back in synch. Rob also appeared to be having some sort of problem as he had to leave the stage after every song. He would only re-appear when the lyrics started and after the song he would exit again. The band even took a short break right in the middle of their British Steel set; I wonder if Rob had some back problems which required rest or treatment throughout the show. Besides this, Rob sounded great and hit all the high notes with piercing clarity.KK took an ended solo during Victim of Changes and Glenn even teased the crowd during Victim as if he was going to do his solo. What can I say, the band was awesome, the crowd was wild and JP are the true masters! You can never go wrong seeing JP in concert!

Regarding the merch - shirt sales were strong, the most popular was the one with the British Steel logo on front w/ tour dates on back, all of the XXL and XL sizes were gone when I bought mine during Kix's set.

Doggiedogma: Yeah, Ticketmaster called about 3-4 days prior to the show and left a long voicemail giving multiple options for refunds. Like you, I had no interest in a refund so I didn't look into it further.
[doggiedogma] Tuesday, August 18, 2009 3:12:48 PM
67Gemini - Ticketmaster actually called you and offered a refund? WOW! I am seeing JP at Merriweather on Saturday and they haven't called me (not that I want a refund). There is nothing about a refund on Merriweather's website (or Ticketmasters)

On the refunds issue: I bought my tickets through Ticketmaster and about a week before the show I recieved a phone call explaining the situation and offering full refunds to those who wanted them.
As far as the Florida crowds are concerned, the show I went to in Tampa was not "weak" at all. In spite of the cancellation, the crowd was in the 10,000 range and they were loud and crazy. Not sure where you heard that the Florida crowds were going to be "weak".
[JT_Small_Deadly_Space] Tuesday, August 18, 2009 7:35:21 AM
I checked out a couple of Florida performances on Youtube and the crowd didn't really look that good which is a total shame. Why would you go to watch a band knowing they are making a DVD and not cheer for them, it's tragic. However Priest sounded great so i have high hopes for the DVD. If anyone was there last night i would love to know what they thought of Priest. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Screamin' Demon from Tuesday, August 18, 2009 7:02:27 AM)

the current tour], did you worry that playing one album in order would eliminate
some element of surprise for the audience?
Halford: It's impossible to have a complete surprise now, isn't it?
Unfortunately, that's the way of the world. Everybody's Twittering while they
eat their lunch and while they're sitting in the movie theater, so it's a shame
really. But I also wouldn't deny the excitement that this kind of instant
connection can create. Because you know, no matter how you explain to a fan that
you've seen the pre-show, or seen clips from YouTube or whatever, you can't
really fully understand or experience the true moment until you're there in

cannot understand what it means until you are standing at the rim staring at the
vastness. I think that's true of this particular show. But I agree with you, you
know. When the Internet was going mainstream, we discussed that. Because coming
from that time of our life, there was the excitement of, "Oh, there's a new LP
coming from PRIEST!" You'd put the
vinyl on your turntable, and that was the only way you could experience it. You
couldn't snag it off the Internet or get an illegal download or a video clip. So
there was a mystery of how [a band] would do it onstage. And to a certain
extent, that's gone now. But it's today's world, you have to accept it. It's all
about living in the moment, and the only way you can live in the moment for a
PRIEST show is to come and see us.
Miami New Times: Why did you choose to film your live DVD at the date here in
South Florida? Was it just a scheduling thing?
Halford: It's a combination of a lot of things. We've been coming back and forth
to Florida since the early '80s. We made two or three records in Miami at
Bayshore Sound, which is no longer there. So we spent many years in the Miami
area, especially in Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne, so we have many memories
from South Florida. The fans are crazy down there -- the metal heads go insane.
Miami New Times: Really? You find that South Florida metal audiences in
particular are really that crazy?
Halford: There's just a very special feeling from the Florida metal heads that
we want to capture. So here's a chance for all the Florida metal heads to become
famous, because the cameras will be pointing on them throughout the night, as
well as on the band. We're very excited that we're going to be making this film,

Yeah. I guess I'd just prefer if Scott used louder bass drums, like he did on the Painkiller tour. It's really hard to hear some double bass drumming of his nowadays, like the intro to Painkiller (unless it's a good sounding bootleg), Judas Rising & Hellrider (2005 youtube live clips) . You've Got Another Thing Coming
To begin, Whitesnake opened up for the mighty Judas Priest. The show surpassed my expectations. Coverdale's high spirits were buyoed by the show of a pair albums, one of which was Slip of the Tongue, held up by a fan a few rows down from me. He really dug that and announced to us the 21st anniversary. Whitesnake kicked ass all night, a heavy sounding set and blazing guitar skills were on full display. This was my initiation to Whitesnake, aside from the few times I've heard them on the radio. I'll be getting some of their discs on my next trip to the CD shop.
Now onto Priest
I'd like to add that there were three "JP crosses" up on top of the stage, kind of looking down on the audience. The show started with a trippy atmosphere as the Birmingham (I believe that's the city on the curtain) skyline looking quite industrial, was emblazoned with a pair of laser images, super imposed, of millworkers smashing away at their hammers. Wow, never seen that before, what a neat concept.
The album, a real crackler on stereo, is presented here live, HEAVY as a freaking millstone, and as was stated before EXECUTED FLAWLESSLY. I cannot state in enough words how accurate and incredibly strong Halford's voice is on this tour. Quite honestly, this came as a total shock to me, as the live album, A Touch Of Evil-Live, just released weaks ago had disappointed me in the vocal department. While the British Steel album was executed flawlessly, the real challenge came afterward, in which Halford attempts to placate raving lunatic fans with some REAL OLD STUFF, starting with The Ripper. Holy mother of all that is evil!!! I missed the opening scream by a verse (LOL, yes I was embarrased!)-and got to hear Halford absolutely NAIL this one. Unbelievable. Everyone-be on notice-Halford is taking NO PRISONERS! The "tungsten tonsils" have ravaged us here in Orange County-so beware!
Onto the show-I have to say, I was impressed with the "energy" and "vibe" of the band, who played a show as if they had just come off releasing British Steal just this year. This ain't 1980-but they sure have the energy. The "brooding" and "stalking" Halford we got to know on the tour before has vanished. The dude walks around the stage confident as hell, crouching and looking down at times to scream that glorious scream, but is also engages the crowd more, and "moving" around more, even doing some victory laps in You Got Another Thing Coming, hehe. He just looks more bad ass by the day and year.
Ok, jeez, I'll try to keep the Halford worship at bay here, ha! In anycase, the "bored" look of Scott Travis I've heard some people complain about, to me just looks like concentration. While some of the material might not have been challenging for his set of skills, he smashed his kit with heart and intensity this night. Also, the drum sound at the show was superb. While Ian Hill and Scott Travis were laying the foundation and pouring on the heavy metal at their spots, KK and Glenn went roving the stage, ripping men apart with axes so deftly played. Grabbing a shot of KK with my camera proved to be a difficult task, as in the "zone" as he was, my camera could never quite catch up to him enough to take a decent shot. If the shot wasn't blurred, the hair would cover his face, but I got one anyway! Glen on the other hand was quite easy to capture, as I was on his side, but also because the passion of his style is more otherworldly, enjoying every note.
Finishing the show, after Freewheel Burning (a blistering rendition) and Victim of Changes (surprisingly well sung, especially considering the thrashing his voice had there!) was, of course, the classic You Got Another Thing Coming. I felt that if the PacAm's curfew wasn't so stringent, the band could have played another few songs with the way the crowd was revved up and ready to go.
The show was the best I'd ever seen JP perform. The energy emanated from the stage start to finish impressed me HEAVILY. I do believe word is getting 'round that the Priest is back, and with a vengeance, as I purchased a pair of tickets real close to the stage the DAY before the show. I was somewhat worried about the crowd attendance being that I got such good seats on short notice. However, the ampitheater was packed. I don't know how many seats the Pacific Ampitheater can hold, but it looked to my eyes that the Priest filled darn near every one of them.
Didn't mean to write a review, just wanted to share a few observations. I hope you don't mind Maple Syrup, I basically lifted much of the review you posted, phrases and structure... Great review though!

Agreed! Very well put ... I especially support your final remarks, I've always gotten my money's worth where a 'Priest show is concerned! You have a way with words, Freeze [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Monday, August 10, 2009 6:49:16 AM)

So, I mentioned PopEvil over in their Thread. Enough said about them, except that I remain VERY impressed with the honest and humble attitude they had. As for Whitesnake, it may be a bit unfair of me to try to review their effort as I am a Coverdale fan. I think he has done some amazing things in his career and managed to stay commercially viable even though he has drifted in and out of the music scene on a couple of occasions. He has never really "re-invented" himself..at least not to a noticable degree. He is as he was back in the 70's, a Plant clone that can sing and write very well. He always delivers as far as I am concerned and that is the mark of a true professional. (Granny screams be dammned...HAAAAAA!!!)
Now then, onto the Boys....What can I say?? Judas Priest continue to make it happen and do it the right way..ALL THESE years later! I am glad I had the opportunity to see them twice in less than a month. it was a chance to make a comparison and I was pleasantly surprised. Priest are the Gods. There is NO doubt about it. They are simply amazing. And at their age...I am in awe. Judas Priest sets the standard by which all others are measured. I believe with all my heart.
Glenn and KK are as tight as they have ever been, as far as I can tell. They have been together so long that they just know instinctively. It is a remarkable thing to witness, actually. Just amazing. Ian is such a great guy. He goes to his corner and there he stays. He is in the background doing EXACTLY what he is supposed to do, lay down a foundation with Scott. Those two are great at that. The beat is always dead-on. True professionals.
Rob. Our dear, beloved Rob. I was so happy to see him smiling and enjoying himself. A far cry (I think) from the Vegas show last year at the Palms. He seems genuinely happy. Of course, they are getting near the end of this tour and I can only imagine how badly he must want to get back to that quiet apartment by the ocean! Nonetheless, a brilliant performance! His screams are so cool. Not what they were thirty years ago as far as pitch but OH MAN!! When he lets loose it pierces your skull!!! Love the set list , too. I have NO complaints. They are delivering exactly what they said they would and I do not think they should make ANY changes! It all comes together very nicely.
All in all, a tremendous show. Absolutely incredible. I am SO glad they did this tour at this time. My step-son got to hear some "classic" Priest and THAT is truly special. Would love to catch ONE more show this year but I will settle for the two I did see and say, BRAVO. Well done, indeed. I did not go backstage. I did not get a picture with the Band or hang out by the buses for an autograph but I did get every single dollar's worth of what I spent!! I wonderful evening with THE world's greatest Heavy Metal act....ever,

Awesome review there, Deep Freeze.
I do agree with you on Halford being "happy," as I noticed the same thing in Costa Mesa. He seemed to have a bit more of a strut in his step as well. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Monday, August 10, 2009 6:49:16 AM)

Hey I.M.P. I'm doing great....and no,unfortunately Priest are not touring through Seattle, but I'm hoping that the next album they will.
I'd like to see some of your pictures of the show though, that would be cool!
Hello and how the hell are ya J.D. Diamond?!

Very Cool review IMP! Thanks for the kudos. Priest is certainly on top of their game on this tour. Just wondering if they may add a couple of extra songs in Hollywood, FL for the DVD. Here's to hoping. All the best. MpleSyrp [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by I.M.P. from Thursday, August 06, 2009 2:40:59 AM)

Well I'll be a son of a bitch...(lol!)...Hellow and welcome back to the forum our friend "I.M.P."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to see ya back man,and good review by the way!!!! You've been missed here by many!
The show I went to just now had identical setlists. Judas Priest set list:
Rapid Fire
Metal Gods
Breaking the Law
Grinder

You Don't Have to be Old to be Wise
Living After Midnight
The Rage
Steeler
The Ripper
Prophecy
Hell Patrol
Victim of Changes
---
Freewheel Burning
Diamonds and Rust

Youth today in Iran sees it differently.
There is plenty of righteous rebellion going around today. If they weren't drugged since kindergarden american kids would be rebelling too instead of watching Twilight. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Becks from Friday, July 24, 2009 9:12:44 PM)

You simply cannot please everyone! Of course, I would love for Priest to play and play...ALL night if they could! We all want more but I have heard countless interviews with the guys and they always seems to say the same thing; we try.

I'll agree with the setlist sentiment, being too short. But then again, 2 hours would be too short for some people-ha! I'm glad to see them tour-again! I freaking love it, and will go to every show I can.
As for the nostalgia thing, I'll point to the inarguably ambitious album just released for proof to the contrary there. For good or bad, Priest has never rested on their laurels, or given way to the easy road. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Screamin' Demon from Thursday, July 02, 2009 6:00:13 AM)

While the setlist is pretty fine, I'll give my impression of it all. I think the entire tour, playing all of British Steel is slightly nostalgic, something that Rob said Judas Priest will never be. They're playing only one song from this lineup...Prophecy. Nice to see electric Diamonds And Rust, as well as the bone chilling Freewheel Burning. Does Scott play it with double bass like he did with Fight in 1993/1994? A bit disappointing to hear the set is only 70 minutes long, more songs would be good. Something heavier would be great like One Shot At Glory or Demonizer or something. Edited at: Thursday, July 02, 2009 6:08:59 AM

Anybody think that 'Priest will play an expanded setlist for their Southern Florida show?
[Electric_Eye] Tuesday, July 28, 2009 3:44:14 PM
I think the set list is a bit thin --but with an opening act as well as Whitesnake on the bill, I suppose JP had to trim it down a bit. I'd much rather see Priest alone without anyone else on the bill (like Rush last summer --their set list consisted of 27 songs) but I'll take what I can get. I am looking forward to hearing all of British Steel --particularly Rapid Fire and Steeler.
Priest comes to Atlanta (well, Alpharetta @ Verizon to be accurate) in August. I'm going although I have not bought tix yet --eighth row is still available in the high-priced area, middle section half-way to the front for the mid-range tix and plenty at the lower end price. This tells me that tickets are moving s-l-o-w here --unfortunately.
I would go for that.
