So I suppose my new song featuring all masculine voiced fricatives (rather than perfect rhyme) is going to be dead in the water, eh? DAMN! Took me forever to come up with lines ending with such rhyming words as:
grave - reprieve
cause - whiz [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Wednesday, October 08, 2008 3:11:53 PM) | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | It is very difficult for me to believe we are still debating the "worthiness" of the new album. Judas Priest may not sell out stadiums like they once did, but it is certainly not because of Nostradamus. The "masses" are too busy lauding the so-called genius of the likes of Kid Rock and others of his ilk that would rather dub other people's music and change the words than actually write something original. Rhyming "bitch" with "itch" takes very little talent, my friends. Gluing gold to ones front teeth does not make one a genius. Claiming to be from the "street" does not equate to musical talent.
Unfortunately, musical success is still based on earnings and somehow joined with the word "talent" with very little foundation for use of the word. It is far easier to get some kid to buy an album with corpses and guns on the cover than it is to actually be talented. |

Understood and appreciated, metalmaz. Look, I do not expect everyone to love the new album. As I mentioned, it is what it is. It is certainly not one of my top three, but I like it. Anyway, I think the larger issue is Priest and who they are. What they have accomplished. Nostradamus is far from a flop, in my humble opinion. More importantly, Judas Priest are still relevant and far FAR more talented than just about ANY metal band of the last ten years. Look. The majority of us agree that Nostradamus great cd by Priest and should have a huge amount more attention if it weren't Priest shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to marketing. Example: One of the best tools for marketing is a quality video of your strongest songs followed by playing those songs on tour to support the video thus creating more demand from the fans. JP has not made a quality video since 1990's Painkiller and Touch of Evil,, some 18 years ago. AOR's Revolution(not JP's strongest song on the cd)had a half-ass video of the song "dubbed" over existing concert footage. The best AOR songs = no video + the single "Worth fighting For" = no video.
JP release Nostradamus via the net(good move)but no video! JP release "Visions" as first single-no video, JP make a ok-at-best animated vdeo for "War" (not jp's best song on the cd). Non of these songs or other good songs like "Alone", "Persecution" were played on their tour.. WTF!? For an album that they are soooo proud of you would never know it by how they marketed it. It's almost like a child with so much potential if it weren't neglected.
The "downfall of priest" is not Nostradamus; it's the lack of commonsense marketing of their good material & choice of tour support that have eroaded cd and ticket sells over the last 18 years and brought Priest to a sad place of no more Gold and Platinum albums and sold out shows in the US. let's be honest-Motorhead, Testament, Queensryche(2005) are not up to Priest standards. there are many other, better, young fresh bands who would be better concert draws...
Sorry for the long winded writing but I'm passionate about Priest and their music and equally frustrated by the lack of much deserved success!

Well I've tried so hard to like it. But quite frankly to me, it's the worst ever album with Halford on vocals.
The vast majority is turgid, pompous, overblown and boring. What has happened to one of the greatest metal bands ever? They've turned into Andrew Llloyd Webber. A sad demise indeed.
Halford solo material is far superior.
No doubt the "Priest nazis" will start whinging "You're not a true fan" and all that crap.
I will be going to see them when they play England next year, because I still love them. (But not Nostradamus)

Priest has taken metal everywhere, and for a change they wanted to do something big, huge and very musical. Like how Craptallica did the orchestra shit, but Priest did it balls out. Sure alot of the album is slow and balladful, but that was what the album was about, a dude's life. Love, life and death. I honestly think the next album will return to the Heavier sound once again, but they chose to explore through a concept album. And id definetly see this in a concert if i had the chance! |

I think it would take more than one dodgy album to take down a band like Priest, as the presence of you good people here shows.
They would probably have far fewer fans if they had just made a few good albums back in the 80s and then carried on doing variations on those songs- we wouldnt be listening to Painkiller for a start |

Is it just me or has anyone noticed JP managment has not announced any Nostradamus worldwide sales figures? I remember shortly after AOR was released management announced a '500,000 and counting' worldwide figure. It's seems tragically JP's Nostradamus hasn't even hit the 500,000 mark worldwide. Nostradamus is such a good cd.
I'm amazed that Judas Priest has not made aquality video for any of their strongest Nostradamus songs "Nostradamus,Percecution, Alone, etc....-and no, "War" was not one of their strongest songs on the cd and certainly a marginal video as best. In fact JP has not made a good video since "Painkiller" and "Touch of Evil" in 1990, some 18 years ago!
Just some observations. |

with judas priest it is always like that: after the first listening - "what the fuck is that?", after the second - "oh, that's not so bad" anf after that you just can't stop listening.... He he, JP is not for everyone as I like to say... :-) Edited at: Friday, September 05, 2008 1:50:26 AM |

Well i just listened to all the songs for the first time and i have to say im pretty disappointed. JP is and has been my favorite band for 25 years now and when they came out with A.O.R. i couldnt have been happier that they were back together. And then when the album KICKED ASS, I was beside myself. Saw them in concert. Was freakin awesome......But this album? How can anyone say an opera like album kicks ass? This album isnt even close to Sad Wings Of Destiny .A.O.R was some heavy shit with a few good slow songs thrown in.This album is some opera shit with a few good heavier( not heavy) tunes thrown in. Anyway i just hope this isnt their last album. I do like the songs "Alone", "Nostradamus", "Persecution"and "relevations". But hey, there is definitely some new priest songs to listen to, which is better than nothing.I just hope they go back to heavy again on their next one. Rock on .................
