[Hard as Iron] Monday, September 15, 2008 10:49:37 AM
It has been ages since I've last posted. I wanted to let you all know, those who advised me about a year ago to just pick up and go with my  heart, I will tell you it worked and thank you so much.   My wife and three kids came out to Phoenix, AZ, no job lined up and our lives packed up in a Honda minivan and Corolla. We stayed with my parents until we could got situated.  I also have my wife to thank because she was the driving force behind it all.

My status now is that I've had a job for two months and we are all settled in living in Mesa, AZ, so if anyone lives in the area, holla at me. Along with this new chapter in my life, also came this superb album that I can relate to in so many ways. Not only has the music been able to ground me and help me through some stressful moments, it has also allowed me to connect with songs like, Exile, Alone, Peace, Sands of time etc..
CROSS OVER THE MOUNTAINS
AND VALLEYS SO WIDE
I WALK AS I WONDER
WITH HOPE BY MY SIDE

ALL MY FRIENDS ARE FAR AWAY
HOW I MISS MY HOME
WHERE DO I FIND PEACE OF MIND
GUIDE ME AS I ROAM
I CRY FOR YOU

These lyrics say it all. Now that I am here, hopefully I can find out where Rob hangs out, since he lives somewhere in the valley.
If anyone has any info on how their performance was and the set list, please let me know, I would appreciate it. Keep the Faith!

"Comparisons to Carla and KatrinaIke is larger than Katrina was, both in its radius of tropical storm force winds--275 miles--and in it radius of hurricane force winds--115 miles. For comparison, Katrina's tropical storm and hurricane force winds extended out 230 and 105 miles, respectively. Ike's surge will probably rival the massive storm surge of Hurricane Carla of 1961. Carla was a Category 4 hurricane with 145 mph winds at landfall, and drove a 10 foot or higher storm surge to a 180-mile stretch of Texas coast. A maximum storm surge of 22 feet was recorded at Port Lavaca, Texas. Despite the fact that the center of Carla hit over 120 miles southwest of Houston, the hurricane drove a 15-foot storm surge into the bays along the south side of the city. Ike's maximum surge is not likely to reach the extreme values above 20 feet seen in Hurricane Carla, though."

GAAAAA!!!!! Damn good info to know! I am in TN in massive storm country where electrical codes are mere suggestions. Lost power today, in fact. Clear, windless day. Just happens all the time. The "grounding" in this house is just a joke.

Thanks a BUNCH for that little tidbit, Healer. Something to ask the ol' invisible fence guy when he shows up for more training tomorrow. Wire surrounds both my big wooden house and pool. Let's hope he knew what he was doing...keep ya' posted or, if you never hear from me again, you'll know what happened!
[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Healer from Thursday, September 11, 2008 6:55:41 PM)
[Healer] Thursday, September 11, 2008 6:55:41 PM
Just a little word of caution.  Make sure your electrical system is well grounded and even then, be careful.  Our neighbor and friends house got struck by lightning a few weeks ago. Although it struck a tree about a hundred yards back, it traveled through their invisible dog fence and caused a fire that destroyed their home and killed both their dogs.  So if your going to be gone for a while and there is a chance of thunderstorms you should disconnect your system.

Thanks HB, Loripip, Guido, Healer, Vail;

Everything you all said made sense and today I'm trying to put things into perspective. I feel a little less guilty about mourning and I guess I just need some time to process this all.

Healer, maybe it is also a case of unfinished busines as you said, I would have liked to have made my peace with him but what's done is done.

Thank you all for being an ear, it makes situations like these just that tiny bit more bareable.

xxxx
Love you all

Think I should use it? Maybe I'll play better. Naaaahhhhh!

On another note, big developments 'round the house here. Got an invisible fence installed today. No more puppies tormenting the neighborhood! I would like to have given them an acre or so to run around but them mutts are diggers. Decided to just do a small area around the side of the house. Man, you should have seen them puppies jump when shocked for the first time! Real training starts bright and early tomorrow. Local dog whisperer is planning to show up bright and early meaning that I am gonna have to be off far earlier than normal. Looks like it works from first impressions...

Hey  Joe--am so sorry to hear about your troubles.
It's perfectly normal & natural to feel what you're feeling & think what you're thinking.
They were such a huge part of your past  & even though it ended on a mad/sad note, you had the courage  to pick yourself up, dust yourself off & start all over again.
And you're not betraying anyone so don't even think that.
It was a chapter of your life & now a piece of it's missing so keep in touch with your friend & hold your husband & kids
It will get better !!
Sending Kleenex's your way !!
MUCH METAL LOVE TO YOU, MY FRIEND

[Healer] Wednesday, September 10, 2008 8:31:53 PM
Hey Joe, I'm really sorry about your loss.  You shouldn't feel quilty at all.  I know I would be very upset if I found out my ex-boyfriend(in my case, 1st love) passed away suddenly.  When someone has been such a huge part of your life, good and bad it's normal to feel such strong emotions.  Could be a feeling of unfunished business or something.  I think your emotions are natural and hooking up with your past friend I think will help you move on and forgive.  Good Luck with everything and just remember, "Keep the Faith!"

That is a really sad tale, Joe. Personally, I don't think that it is wrong to feel such emotions. Perfectly natural, in fact. I recently learned that a guy I barely knew past high school died recently and I still feel upset about it. Heck, I couldn't even really call him a "friend" but he was still someone I knew and feel the loss just the same. I can only imagine what you must be feeling.

Much metal love, my friend.

Hello Metal Family,

I'm in need of some love tonight... I caught up with my childhood best friend. We stopped talking to each other thirteen years ago because of a guy that screwed up our friendship, well, we were an unoficial item.. everyone knew we were together and then out of the blue, he shacks up with my best friend behind my back. Because I felt so betrayed by the two people who ment the most to me at the time, I lost it and said some very choice words to both of them; severed ties and dissapeared. I walked away from everything I knew and started over again in a new town...

So thirteen years go by and we get in touch. I figured the two of them would be happily married or whatever equivelent there was for them. To find out from her that not only did they have five years of a rocky relationship and broke up in the end but, he drowned five years ago.

I feel lost all over again. I'm in a happy marriage with the best husband and kids so why am I feeling such a loss over this guy again?
To confuse things more, I'm overjoyed that my friend and I made up but I feel I'm betraying her and my husband by feeling so lost over this guys death?

I think a great cover song should sound as though its the covering band's own creation, not just a rented song. Not make it a complete imitation of said song, but taking it and shaping it until it sounds fresh and new. It should make the listener forget (at least for a while) that the song is originally from another band.

Topsy turvy! You sure 'bout that? OPENED with it? They closed with it when they opened for Priest here in the States. They opened Priest with Wake up Dead / Hook in Mouth / Hangar 18.

Closed with it. Played it after Holy Wars and Peace sells at the end. My low-point, actually. That is why I remember it so well.

Ya know, I DO have a thought (happens every now and again) about it. Hearing Helter Skelter by Motley Crue today. Made me think of JUST that thought. IMO, they made it their own. Did a fine job of it but didn't stray far from the original.

[Head banger] Monday, September 08, 2008 10:07:25 PM
ok, what makes a great cover song?

IMO a great cover song needs to be recognizable as a cover, but not the same.  listened to some Iron maiden cover today (forget who, doing Rime...) and it sucked.  sounded like they were trying to sound exactly the same.  if they succed in sounding the same, then whats the point, if they fail, then they fail.

never heard fleetwood mac's Green manalishi, but, priest hit it well with Diamonds, and jonny be goode.  changed, but similar, yet their own.

any thoughts?

Cool!

Since CO? Hmmm....another month in Brazil. There should still be a couple of pics in the "picture of you" thread. Went for a bit of travel and ran the 1/2 marathon in Rio.
Still eclipsed by the BIG trip. PRIEST! I certainly cherish it more. They weren't coming to me so I had to go to them.  As I said, gotta keep your priorities straight!

Speaking of which, do post a pic of that tat when you get it done...well, provided it doesn't violate Freeze's sense of decorum, that is!

Hello. I hope everyone is doing well. Summer is over and I am back at work. I cannot believe it, I spent a good deal of my time going to see concerts.  Not a bad way to spend the summer days and evenings here in Colorado. Or any where for that matter. Priest has not yet set a date for CO. I am and have been waiting on pins and needles. For those who have been lucky enough to see them already I am jealous.

Prophecy was the only one they broadcast all the way through (and it was good). Went to the end credits with BTL. Also announced, though, that the whole concert could be heard on Jimmy Kimmel Live.net. Haven't looked myself but I bet it shows up in a day or so like most live shows post them. With that...G'nite all!

You have the right idea. I am more a computer slob than anything else. I envy you, my friend. I wasn't kidding in that I thought Jimmy Kimmel to be one of the dumbest pieces of crap that I have seen in a LONG time. Priest was great, though! Look for that vid.

Oh yeah, I pay for basic satellite just 'cause I live in the middle of nowhere and am seemingly the only person on earth without a cellphone. Read a book, I say. Better yet, write one.

I'm really not in a position to watch television: I threw mine away
Really, no bullshit. One of last shows I saw was Jimmy Kimmel's and one reality tv show or another which finally made me give up wanting to have a tv.
My other habits are expensive enough but not as expensive as paying for cable, even basic cable.
I'm a slob but I'm not a couch potato kind of slob.

No shit.
Judas Priest concert goers are harder to open with their reviews of the shows than a clammy oyster, with the honorable exception of very very few.
No mention of a rough estimate of how many were there, only rarely did I get to read about Testament or Motorhead, set lists of all bands, time they played etc etc etc.

Spapad, you would love it here! We've got the most amazing weather most of the time. I may bitch about the cold now and then but compared to the rest of the worlds winter, I reckon we have it pretty good here (lol) No real threat of natural disasters and summers do die for! We also have great beaches and generally wonderful sights to see if you love nature. We  have our big city theme going on like the rest of the world but Cape Town itself is so picturesque.. We have a mountain in the middle of the main town! In the smaller suburban areas where I live, we have mountains surrounding us and vineyards lining the main street. How picture perfect is that? I do love living here. However, I reckon I may take you up on that spring migration (lol)

Just back from the store with mine! All ready to roll! Ahhh....how I love Labor Day. A very happy day to one and all.

Oh yeah, someone remind me of that Jimmy Kimmell performance tomorrow, wouldja? Although I want to see it, I shudder at the same time. Reminds me of when Motorhead was on David Letterman back in the 90s. Stayed up and watched that damn show all night long (Jimmy is WORSE, IMO) only to find their two songs so waterered down and poorly mixed that it almost made me sick.

TV talkshow vs. big stage. Just NOT the same.

Just woke up right now (but I wrote this review of the concert at 1:40 A.M.). Here goes:

One word: UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE!!!! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAW THEM!!!!!!!!!

My sister and I got to Glen Helen (oops! Its San Manuel now...) a little late thanks to traffic, and a huge line, so I missed Testament. I got to my seat in time for Motörhead's set. The seat itself was pretty good. If I was allowed to bring my camera in I would have gotten some pretty decent pics. Anyway, I enjoyed Motörhead's performance (especially the drum solo). They had some pretty decent songs!! I'll have to buy their new album. I also enjoyed Heaven and Hell's performance. I loved the sing-a-long for the Heaven and Hell song!! But enough of that...on to Judas Priest.

I'll be honest....when the band played "Prophecy", I couldn't help but cry my butt off from happiness, especially on seeing Glenn IN THE FLESH!!!! AND K.K!!!!!!! AND IAN!!!!!! AND SCOTTIE!!!!!!!!! AND ROB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY WERE RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN FRONT OF ME/US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, my god... It was a dream come true...

Eat Me Alive was great!!!! And Devil's Child!!!!!!!!!! Rock Hard, Ride Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how great Rob sounded when he sang and screamed!! Painkiller was...well...KILLER!!!!!!!!!!! I was SCREAMING the lyrics to every song on the setlist, so now my throat hurts :P. I felt sorry for the guy standing next to me. He had to deal with my screaming, jumping, crying, and yelling Glenn's name (heheh...) for the whole set. Unfortunately, neither Sinner nor Death were played.

The only thing that bugged me was this: some guy two rows in front of me started standing on his seat during "Between the Hammer and the Anvil" and stayed there throughout most of the performance. I couldn't see half the stage!!! Being the pissed off fan that I was (and probably high from second-hand smoke), I threw cigarette butts at him every chance I got. Thankfully the guy next to me offered me to switch places with him, and he gave me his binoculars during "Angel". He was cool. Thank you, dude!! Wherever you are!!!

Other than that, the show was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I hope there's some kind of bootleg of that concert available, because I'll buy it. Shoot... I want to see Judas Priest again, but in VIP seating. I wanna get a closer look at Glenn... he's so elegant on stage... . Rob was very active during the show, running from one side to another, doing the "WOAH, YEAH!!!" part with us, and encouraging us to sing "Rock Hard, Ride Free"...and he even took his leather jacket off, revealing his tattooed chest.
Ian looked wonderful, and Scott did great as well!!!!!! And since I was on Glenn's side, I couldn't see K.K very much. In the few times I saw him, he looked great!!!!!!!! Heck, they were all so active, they made the two bands before them look sluggish!!!

And there you have it...my summary on the Metal Masters concert in Devore. It was an unforgettable time for me and I hope I can experience some more Priest in the next tour. Nostradamus tour, here I come!!! Edited at: Sunday, August 31, 2008 11:11:14 AM
