That was an entertaining series. We wound up splitting the 4 games, but both teams showed up with offense and some pitching and fielding (and of course Santana's single, which I've never seen quite like that before). You're only a game out of 1st now, not sure who Philly is playing this weekend. We're up against the Brewers now in Mil., should make for a high energy playoff atmosphere for the 3 games. Good luck to you and we'll see you in the playoffs!!! WHAT A TREMENDOUS SERIES. I KNOW THE CUBS DIDN'T PLAY ALL THEIR REGULARS, BUT IT WAS FUN TO WATCH.
WHAT A GREAT MATCHUP IT WOULD BE IF WE CAN GET IN THE PLAYOFFS.
THE BREWERS JUST WON WITH A WALKOFF GRANDSLAM.

Maybe a weekend trip, I'll go to a game with you. But it's gotta be a Mets game and you'd have to at least wear a Mets cap.
The surrounding neighborhood (Wrigley is smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood) and establishments have plenty to offer as well. Hey Chicago what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today
They really have a team that can get to the WS, and maybe even win it!!!
Die hard Cub fan, but NOT a hater, Brewers have been a formidable rival since they switched Leagues, and I hope it never changes!!
Scorp, it doesn't matter who we face in the WS, but I would love to face the White Sox. They had their little party after '05. If the Cubs win it all, we'll be partying for a decade, hell, Chicago might not even survive a Cubs win (you heard the story of what Mrs. O'Leary's cow did, right? Amplify that by about 5 million!!! lol).
I do hope to see the Mets in the NLCS (would like the chance to break THAT curse as well.
Good Luck Mets!!! (we're facing off this week for 3 games at Shea) |

I love him, but even I think this is a bit much :
Finals MVP Paul Pierce, who recently spent three days at a ball camp in Madrid, is making, ahem, news about what he said to a Spanish reporter. The money translation, via RedsArmy: "Q: Is Kobe really the best player in the world? Pierce: I don't think Kobe is the best player. I'm the best player. There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself." Surprisingly, Spurs fans seem more upset by this than actual Lakers fans. (Update: OK, Lakers Nation is pretty upset, too.) |

I hope it is not true either. Something has to happen soon. I heard Tampa was interested in him but I think Gruden already has 5 QB's on his roster at the moment. |

Don't get me wrong. I completely respect the man and his abilities as an athlete. I just don't like the behind the back tactics he seems to be using. To the "outsider" it looks like he was trying to get out of a contract and go for the top dollar using the " I'm retiring" story. Trouble is, he's played the " I love Green Bay " card too many times. As it appears now, he's a two faced liar and after all these years I really hope that it's NOT true. I will watch him in another uniform and I wish the Packers well with Aaron Rodgers. If Brett stays retired, good for his family. You can't blame a guy for trying (to come back). This would be his last chance to do so, so maybe this is his last hurrah so to speak. I still love him. |

It just keeps getting dumber :
MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Brett Favre knows how to call an audible. A phone call could be another matter.
Favre made “repeated” calls to a pair of Minnesota Vikings coaches using a cell phone issued by the Green Bay Packers, according to a story in Tuesday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Citing sources, the newspaper reported that the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback made numerous calls to both Vikings coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
Green Bay officials learned of the phone calls by checking the phone records, according to the Journal Sentinel. |

Um . . . I didn't exactly enjoy the . . . pass interference, lack of "in the grasp call", another need for a New York team to win . . . result of the Super Bowl either. It must be odd to have a generational quarterback, but that's kind of what I'm talking about. If the Pack doesn't think change, they are going to get left behind for another generation. I think it's almost disgraceful that Brett would not consider staying in a backup role. If he truly cares about the team and the city they way he claims, he should want nothing more than to advance the future of the team that gave him everything he has today. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—The Packers aren’t about to let Brett Favre become a free agent. And while he’s now free to return to Green Bay for another season, there’s no guarantee he’ll be the Packers’ starting quarterback if he does.
I hope the front office bury his career and expose him for the asshole he is. |

The Hockey News names Flyers' Stevens coach of year
By ED MORAN
Philadelphia Daily News
[email protected]
There was a time during the hockey season when John Stevens' ability to coach the Flyers to the playoffs was questioned. It was in the middle of a losing streak, when the Flyers fell from the top of the division and, seemingly, out of playoff contention.
But Stevens stood behind his team and his staff, and yesterday, Stevens was honored by The Hockey News, which named him coach of the year for leading the Flyers from the bottom of the league to the Eastern Conference finals in one season.
"[Stevens] is the coach that we deemed did the best job in the regular season and postseason," Hockey News editor Jason Kay said yesterday. "John did a great job in leading a great turnaround, but also the style that he employs, such a calm demeanor behind the bench, is an example of his leadership.
"The way that he carries himself showed with the product on the ice, particularly in the playoffs, the way that team stuck together and held together when a lot of people didn't anticipate they would do as well."
In his typical out-of-the-limelight style, Stevens refused to accept the award as an individual honor.
"To me, this is more of an organizational award than a coaching award," Stevens said. "I think that it's a reflection of all the good things done from [general manager Paul Holmgren] down to the players. The honor was given to me, but in my mind it should be given to the entire organization for all the work that everyone has done."
Team chairman Ed Snider and Holmgren did not agree.
"There was a lot of pressure on John and his staff coming into this season," Snider said. "It's truly remarkable what he was able to accomplish, taking us from last place a season ago into the Eastern Conference finals. Our entire organization is extremely proud of all that John and his team accomplished this year."
"John did an exceptional job in his first full season as a head coach in the NHL and of our hockey club," Holmgren added. "He is very deserving of this award." *

Now that things have developed, I think he tried to pull a "Junior Seau". He had talked with the Vikings. He "retires". Then he comes back after the Packers have moved on. Pulls on the heart strings of the public for the Packers to release him so he can play. One problem . . . we all know about the conversation with the Vikings and he's not at the end of his contract like Junior was. Over the past weekend, I was totally stoked that the A's swept the stupid Giants in baseball!
And for auto racing, I'm not surprised the Audi dominated in the 24 Hours of LeMans. I got to see a little bit of this race at McCovey's restaurant Saturday night (yeah, it is primarily a place paying homage to a famous Giant, so seeing the A's winnin' that game over the Giants on a huge screen made it even more fun!) on the SPEED Channel. |
