Hey  Joe--am so sorry to hear about your troubles.
It's perfectly normal & natural to feel what you're feeling & think what you're thinking.
They were such a huge part of your past  & even though it ended on a mad/sad note, you had the courage  to pick yourself up, dust yourself off & start all over again.
And you're not betraying anyone so don't even think that.
It was a chapter of your life & now a piece of it's missing so keep in touch with your friend & hold your husband & kids
It will get better !!
Sending Kleenex's your way !!
MUCH METAL LOVE TO YOU, MY FRIEND

Hey Joe, I'm really sorry about your loss.  You shouldn't feel quilty at all.  I know I would be very upset if I found out my ex-boyfriend(in my case, 1st love) passed away suddenly.  When someone has been such a huge part of your life, good and bad it's normal to feel such strong emotions.  Could be a feeling of unfunished business or something.  I think your emotions are natural and hooking up with your past friend I think will help you move on and forgive.  Good Luck with everything and just remember, "Keep the Faith!"

That is a really sad tale, Joe. Personally, I don't think that it is wrong to feel such emotions. Perfectly natural, in fact. I recently learned that a guy I barely knew past high school died recently and I still feel upset about it. Heck, I couldn't even really call him a "friend" but he was still someone I knew and feel the loss just the same. I can only imagine what you must be feeling.

Much metal love, my friend.

Hello Metal Family,

I'm in need of some love tonight... I caught up with my childhood best friend. We stopped talking to each other thirteen years ago because of a guy that screwed up our friendship, well, we were an unoficial item.. everyone knew we were together and then out of the blue, he shacks up with my best friend behind my back. Because I felt so betrayed by the two people who ment the most to me at the time, I lost it and said some very choice words to both of them; severed ties and dissapeared. I walked away from everything I knew and started over again in a new town...

So thirteen years go by and we get in touch. I figured the two of them would be happily married or whatever equivelent there was for them. To find out from her that not only did they have five years of a rocky relationship and broke up in the end but, he drowned five years ago.

I feel lost all over again. I'm in a happy marriage with the best husband and kids so why am I feeling such a loss over this guy again?
To confuse things more, I'm overjoyed that my friend and I made up but I feel I'm betraying her and my husband by feeling so lost over this guys death?

I think a great cover song should sound as though its the covering band's own creation, not just a rented song. Not make it a complete imitation of said song, but taking it and shaping it until it sounds fresh and new. It should make the listener forget (at least for a while) that the song is originally from another band.

Oh, sorry....corrected my own error already. You never said that they opened with it only that THEY opened for Priest. Right-O!

Topsy turvy! You sure 'bout that? OPENED with it? They closed with it when they opened for Priest here in the States. They opened Priest with Wake up Dead / Hook in Mouth / Hangar 18.

Closed with it. Played it after Holy Wars and Peace sells at the end. My low-point, actually. That is why I remember it so well.

Agreed. But how 'bout Anarchy in the UK by Megadeth? They used to close with it all the time.

Ya know, I DO have a thought (happens every now and again) about it. Hearing Helter Skelter by Motley Crue today. Made me think of JUST that thought. IMO, they made it their own. Did a fine job of it but didn't stray far from the original.

ok, what makes a great cover song?

IMO a great cover song needs to be recognizable as a cover, but not the same.  listened to some Iron maiden cover today (forget who, doing Rime...) and it sucked.  sounded like they were trying to sound exactly the same.  if they succed in sounding the same, then whats the point, if they fail, then they fail.

never heard fleetwood mac's Green manalishi, but, priest hit it well with Diamonds, and jonny be goode.  changed, but similar, yet their own.

any thoughts?
