No apologies , my friend! I agree, to a point. It really sucks and I am very disappointed in him BUT, I also am very clear on the aspect of business. Pro ball is a business and he was doing what he thought he needed to do. NO excuses, just an understanding. In his situation, I may very well have done the same. I cannot say as I will (obviously) never be a professional athlete. It is incredibly easy to sit in front of a computer and pass judgement. To be OH so self-righteous and wag your finger in shame when one of these guys does something like this but it is their livelihood. It is their future. They do what they must, I suppose. Hey Ron! I have to admit, I was somewhat confused when I saw that LA had signed Hudson and lost so much pitching but, MAN!!! O-Dog is just incredible. A true professional and a savvy veteran. What a great acquisition!!! Of course, I mentioned Manny earlier but it is just GREAT to have him (as long as he is happy). Sorry Tim my friend but Manny is being Manny in LA and the fans could not be happier about it! What a player!
I still think LA needs a fifth starter. McDonald is NOT ready to be a regular starter yet and neither is Troncoso. Losing Penny AND Lowe is painful and I am NOT a Randy Wolf fan at all. Maybe Coletti can work a little magic before the trading deadline???!?!?!!!! I have not looked at their minor league prospects but the Dodgers have always done well in that area. Maybe they have someone in there that can step up?

Hate to tell you guys, but he's got an "opt out" clause after 1 year. He could be back on the free agent market next year or whenever he senses the economy is ready for the offer he really wants. Manny looks after Manny and nobody else. He's not a team player and the only reason he "chose" the Dodgers is because it was the only choice. He laid down on the Red Sox and the league will remember that forever.

At his age I am really suprised he didn't want a longer contract. One down year and the argument will be made about his age. I wouldn't worry much, as you said he is in the prime of his career right now. I must admit that the longer he went unsigned the more I could fantasize seeing him in left at Wrigley with Soriano in center and Bradley in right...arguably the most lethal outfield in baseball (and we would need it to make up for the lack of defense). Six?) and he could have demanded a longer term but he decided to stay here and that is WAY cool. I firmly believe he will be the super star he has been and now he is at the top of his game AND happy. ...'Storm'n' Norm Van Lier...
...behind Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, 'Red' was the 3rd best C in the league...and that was in the day when teams played each other more than a couple of times a season...'Red' was also the 1st coach of the Bulls as well as the 'Voice' of Bulls basketball for decades...
...Norm Van Lier played with 'Red', Jerry Sloan and Artis Gilmore on those 70's Bulls teams and for being only 6'1, he was known to be quite a bully...
...both men were very much involved with the Bulls until the end, with Norm not making it into the Comcast studios the other night, giving the first omen that something was amiss...both men were much respected and loved in the Chicago community...

The first curling club in the United States was organized in 1830 only thirty miles from Detroit, at Orchard Lake, Michigan. Professional athletes are paid to win. There is no silly sentiment or "pureness" to it. Win or retire. Period. And fans love winning. But, if you consider that an athlete's body is nothing more than a piece of equipment, how can you blame him?? I mean, they use the best equipment technology can offer, right? Certainly they would consider "improving" their body in any way possible? A truly difficult situation. I know what you are saying, Soy. I just do not know what the "right" answer would be...

I said professional sport is about the business of winning. And, if you know anything about me at all, you will recall that I am a HUGE college sports fan. I love watching college football and basketball. In fact, I do not even watch the NBA, but that again is not the point.
You are right, trying to gain an edge and injecting drugs are far apart in the grand scheme but I merely pointed out that I understand. I do not "condone". Just trying to offer an alternative point of view on the subject. As for "real" sport, I said anyone that has played at a real level. ...I'm not defending Sosa, Soy...just presenting facts...McGwire was an HGH user and it was not banned at the time he was taking it...of course, you'd have to be a complete idiot to not believe Sosa juiced, and yes, he has taken tests in the past, all negative...and the all important corked bat, against a very weak (at the time) Devil Rays team...but he does have numerous bats hanging in Cooperstown from certain acheivements, they had them all x-rayed and they were all legit...so what am I missin' other than the before and after pics??...I have to believe there's something or someone who knows something...there just has to be...maybe it was Gaylord Perry...Mr. Integrity...who was giving the injections...

No doubt...the Cards had to be the underdog of underdogs from the Wildcard round on...just goes to show that all you have to do is make it to the playoffs, it's a crap shoot after that...I feel your pain man, the Cards had their division wrapped up with a few weeks to go, their division was horrible...but that offense is real good, their defense was their bane this yaer and even they stepped it up come playoffs...I thought some of the calls were iffy as well, but I'll let that die as it happend to both teams...the game did keep me in my seat 'til time expired...I guess, seeing as our teams weren't in it, that's all we could have really asked for... What a conflict of interest. Couldn't pass up the replay of their final but also didn't want to miss the commercials in a game that didn't interest me much with a buddy who didn't make the Pitt spread. Finally had to cave and look at what happened to Federer. Not about to miss good comercials on a 6-2 final set. ARGH!

I have to say that I watched this game under protest. I can't believe the Cardinals even got into the playoffs with the record they had. The Steelers played like crap and were lucky to pull it out. That score should have been 35 -14 or something like that. That's what happens when my boys get left out of the playoffs with an 11 -5 record after totally destroying the Cardinals 47 - 7 !

THIS IS SHAPING up as the winter of our discontent.
Last week, we reported that former Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin will host a reality show. Yesterday, we got word that current Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens will also have one.
The "Terrell Owens Project" will be taped in the offseason and debut this summer on VH1.
A VH1 blog entry describe ths show thusly:
"In the series, T.O. will be shadowed in the offseason by his best friends and publicists Monique Jackson and Kita Williams as they battle the two sides of his large personality. Viewers will discover that behind all the braggadocio, emotional histrionics, and sculpted physique that is the outspoken media magnet known to the world as T.O. - there is also a quiet, sensitive, mild-mannered guy from Alexander City, Ala. . . . that's Terrell."
Two things. One: We're going to be sick.
Two: We've already seen Owens' act - lots of bickering and childish behavior, although the pushups in his driveway were kind of funny.
Parent's comment to Lidge is legendary
At the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association banquet last night, former Flyers goalie Bernie Parent, who received the Living Legend award, met up with Phillies closer Brad Lidge, who was named Outstanding Pro Athlete.
Parent said to Lidge: "You had 48 saves this season. I used to have 48 saves every night."
Parent then gave Lidge a banner that was a takeoff of an old Parent bumper sticker. The banner read: "Only the Lord saves more than Brad."
Forsberg may play, or not
The Flyers aren't the only ones waiting to see if Peter Forsberg is fit to play. Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson said yesterday he contacted Forsberg and asked him to play in the LG Hockey Games, which begin Feb. 5. Gustafsson said Forsberg, who has had an ongoing problem with his right foot, will give him an answer by Friday.
