who was better?

[J.D. DIAMOND] Tuesday, October 20, 2009 3:44:05 AM

That is a bunch of "baloney" jtwa1,you are only focusing on "Black Sabbath". The thread was not only an opinion of who was better in "Black Sabbath",but who is better as solo artists and whos latter albums are better.I'll give you that maybe Ozzy was #1 for Black Sabbath, and maybe when Dio sings Ozzy Sabbath songs they don't comfort you as they don't "fit" but the band's original material 1980's "Heaven & Hell" album and 1981 "Mob Rules" album are better albums and songs than "Never Say Die" and  "Technical Ecstacy" the last 2 studio album done with "Ozzy". And I would go as far as saying that the Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules albums are just as good of material as any album done with Ozzy.

Now,if you want to talk about solo my opinion "Dio" is far better solo than Ozzy solo,by FAR. Blizzard Of Oz and Diary Of A Madman are his only 2 albums that are of top quality,Bark At The Moon was "ok" and marked the LAST quality Ozzy album as the next however many albums in a row up till now was really not that great man. 1986 "The Ulimate Sin" was horrible,No Rest For The Wicked was alright, but No more Tears and every album up till now sucks big time. Dio has Holy Diver,The Last In Line,Sacred Heart,Dream Evil,Lock Up The Wolves...those 5 albums were cool, but Strange Highways and Angry Machines were the only 2 that were of less quality."Magica,Killing The Dragon and Master Of The Moon Dio's last 3 albums surpass Ozzy's by far.

I can't believe this is even being debated. Dio was great with Rainbow back in the early 70s but we're talking about completely different music. Ozzie's vocals add a personna and an eerieness  to the music that Sabbath requires. Sabbath has never been the same without Ozzie. Someone mentioned Live Evil as proof. The music is great. Iommi and the boys are in true form but the vocals just don't fit. Listen to Dio's vocals on the song Black Sabbath. I hated it, he ruined the song. He talks half of it and growls the rest. Ozzie's range is a lot better than Dio's. Don't get me wrong, I think Dio is a fine singer, but when he is with Sabbath their songs end up sounding like Dio's solo stuff not Sabbath. There are many singers like Dio out there but there's only one Ozzie Osbourne. Maybe you would have had to be there in the beginning like I was to really appreciate it, I don't know, but I promise you that most Sabbath fans in their 50s, as I am, find it hard to even listen to Dio sing an Ozzie song. I have seen Dio live and it was a  good show, very professional. I have also seen Dio with Sabbath right after Mob Rules was done and I found myself concentrating on the music in the old Sabbath songs and just tolerating the vocals. It just wasn't the same. It  would be like Zeppelin reforming with David Coverdale on vocals. Coverdale is a great singer in his own right but he couldn't replace Robert Plant, as no-one could, and no-one can replace Ozzie with Sabbath. sorry, im gonna have to give it to ozzy on this one. no disrespect to mr. rjd. ive been loving ozzy's music about as long as i have been loving judas priest. judas priest is still my favorite band and rob halford is still the top vocalist.

DIO is God. Ozzy can't be compared to someone like Dio, it would be better to compare Halford and's a hard one...

Bullshit.  Dio is every bit of a "real singer" for Sabbath.  Who are you anyways Sharon Osbourne?  Get out of here......

Ozzy of course he's the only real singer for sabbath

I like Dio much better.  Ozzy is backed up by good bands, but he has a no good voice himself in my opinion.  Also, Dio is much more poetic.  He is much deeper and darker and just better.  Dio all the way.

Dio 100%! I give Ozzy credit for being there at the beginning, but Dio has always been my favorite Sabbath singer.

are we still having this debate lol

Much Agreed, one might even say Ozzy's solo carrer is somewhat overrated because of the hits he had on his first couple albums. Dio keeps on crankin em out. as Ozzy should stop. i hear rumors hes going to put out 3 more albums...ugh, ill buy them tho. lol

I say "DIO". Because I am "SICK TO DEATH" of "Ozzy".  It may not be his fault but I can't stand him these days...I like his old shit with Black Sabbath

and his first 3 albums.."Blizzard Of Oz"...."Diary Of A Madman"....."Bark At The Moon"...but anything after that especially nowadays...I just can't take it.

I feel Ozzy should of retired after the 1988 "No Rest For The Wicked" album....that album had a couple of cool songs on it at least.......but I still think

he should of wrapped it up after 1988.

i love Ozzy but Dio has more range in his vocal style. He can hit a lot more high notes than ozzy can. Ozzy is a metal god, the prince of darkness, but as far as singing I gotta go with Dio.
[Skylar] Friday, August 07, 2009 6:25:45 AM
You can't compare them cause they don't sing the same type of music. For instance Dio's voice is more lyrical while Ozzy's more characteristic. I regard them both as great singers.Ozzy's also a very good performer while Dio's singing can match the opera singers. If you want to simply have fun and you're feeling like going nuts then you'l hear Ozzy.If you want to relax and just be caried away by the music you'l hear Dio
