|Ozzy was a pioneer of the metal genre, but as a singer Dio is obviously stronger. Dio has more of a range, but also has a stronger voice. Ozzy does have some singing ability, but it is surpassed with by Dio's vocals.|

|Well said, Bad! Ozzy gets a dreadful and undeserved bad rap far too many times! People seem to forget that unique and unmistakable voice, (just like our Metal God Rob), like nothing anyone could ever copy! He's still one in a million in my book, whether he's an accomplished 'composer' or otherwise! And I have far too many great memories of my youth attached to his songs!|

|Let's be controversal and go for OZZY! yknow I'm getting really tired of the bashing he gets. Remember the 80's when he was considered a god.. a living metal legend.. The madman.. the undesputed king of metal. Nobody came close (hehe dangerous words on a Priest forum but true). Then came 'that' tv show which portrayed him as a total imbecile who could barely change the channel on the tv and suddenly there's this huge backlash. It's like people were waiting for him to fall.. suddely he's an idiot, Bob and later Zakk wrote all his songs.. He can't put his socks on in the morning without Sharon telling him what to do. He's the metal goon who got lucky. BULLSHIT. Sorry but it pisses me off. Ozzy may not play a traditional rock instrument to any kind of standard, damnit he may not even write all his lyrics, but he can write a fucking good tune! So he may not be trained to tell his band to play an e flat major arpeggio then go into a g minor chord progression. But I promise you, even now.. and even on the "Kevin Churko" (SP?) project that was Scream, Ozz was in there with major input in both the music and lyrics. Sorry.. I don't buy the whole thing about him just getting lucky. Nobody has a career lasting 40 years at the very very top of their chosen profession without being incredibly talented. |
Erm.. ok I ran out of words!! I once spray painted the words Ozzy Is God outside the Mayfair in Newcastle and that seems a good way to finish and press send! :;o)

|[dn8ture] Wednesday, May 25, 2011 1:23:06 AM|| |
Dio on Sabbath's "Heaven & Hell" was Black Sabbath's greatest album. Dio's solo albums kick *ss. He was a way more versatile singer than Ozzy. Greater range, more personable stage presence and the best thing to happen to Sabbath. Ozzy was better with Rhodes and Jake E. Lee on guitar. The band Heaven & Hell was also slamming with a more daring vocal approach & sick guitar.

|Ozzy is nothing without Black Sabbath. In Sabbath, he contributed NOTHING! Did not write music,
did not write lyrics, knew nothing about the technical or production. His voice was a match for the first
4 albums though; a miracle and Sabotage is my favorite. Ozzy only made it solo because his wife was a genius
when it came to selecting a great technical backing band and technical crew, as well as marketing strategy Geared to American listeners.
DIO is DIO.... Professional, mystical, and an all around much better talent! RIP. This man can really sing live!

|Apples and Oranges my fine feathered friends...I loved Heaven and Hell, I was a Rainbow fan and loved RJD's vox.|
Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die were terrible LPS. Ozzy's addictions and behavior even had the Sabs looking for someone to take the Oz man's place for the tour. Get real, Sabbath had been in decline since "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", some great songs here and there, not a whole collection though.
Black Sabbath and Ozzy parted ways and both were better for it. Sabbaths LPs with RJD are good solid A+ platters, sure there were a few stinkers over the years with very inconsistent writing for the Sabs with an assortment of vocalists, and the two Jake E. Lee projects by Ozzy had the same issues.
As a solo act Dio was pretty damned good...still after the second solo album it was proven he needs a strong guitar player to flesh out his ideas...ya gotta figure after working with Blackmore and Iommi the loss of Campbell was huge.
So while Dio was by far the better singer, Ozzy was his eaqual as a frontman when he was not screwed up. They each have their special charm.

Suppose Iommi and Butler sharing writing with all the members of the band is a bit like Bono and The Edge sharing songwriting of all U2 songs with the band - class gesture, if you ask me.
Agree with comments about Blizzard, Madman and No More Tears, although I thought the latter album was his most mature of his career, but the early Sabbath is in a different stratosphere, for me.

|All the songs were written by Butler and Iommi. As leader of the band Iommi credited the whole band on every song. Don't ask me why but that's what they did. From what I gather all the songs on Ozzys first two solo albums were written by Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley. Ozzy doesn't contribute much in the writing stakes other than an idea or melody here and there but gets credit, I guess, because he makes the songs so good with his voice, presence and showmanship.|

|When it comes to lyrical abilty Ozzy wins hands down. Look at the first six Sabbath albums, up to and including Sabotage, and you have some of the best metal lyrics ever. Ozzy's voice fits Sabbath, and so his voice has to go down as perfect for one of the greatest metal acts.|
Dio had the better voice, for sure. His work on Rainbow Rising and Heaven and Hell is awesome. His writing is not as good as Ozzy's.
They are both metal legends with voices that fit the moment. Dio the better voice, but Ozzy the better wordsmith.

|Black Sabbath, the Ozzy version, wrote the rule book for heavy metal. From the first album to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath you are talking about 5 of the greatest albums in heavy metal history. I love Dio. Personally believe that his work on Rainbow Rising is as good, or better, than Heaven & Hell, which is a very good album, as well. |
Give me Ozzy and the original Sabbath line-up any day. Wheels of Confusion, Children of the Grave, War Pigs, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, NIB . . . are you kidding me!

|Dio is obviously more talented than Ozzy but if the question is who was better for Sabbath|
I'll take Ozzy any day. Heaven and Hell is a great album, Mob Rules is O.K.. Dehumanizer
I didn't care for at all. Other than Never Say Die I love everything Sabbath did with Ozzy.
Sabbath is my second favorite band next to Priest and I was into them before Dio so maybe
I'm biased. This is my opinion and it only matters to me. I saw Dio 6 times and, once with
Sabbath and again on Priest/Heaven and Hell tour so believe me I love Dio I just like Ozzy
fronted Sabbath better.

|Yep the Dio albums reign supreme for me!! i dont really think there is a bad song on Heaven..... and Mob Rules.|
The Ozzy (Sabbath) albums in my opinion are patchy...the good songs are good but the naff one are....naff! lol but i guess Ozzy is the better frontman.

|I Personally Prefer Dio's Voice, But Then Again, Ozzy Coulnd't Pull Off Dio's Songs As Well, But It's The Same The Other Way round... Dio Can't Do Ozzy's Aswell As Ozzy Can...|

|I love AOR, but I do wish I could erase Loch Ness. Thank good for "skip". They could have fit another 3 fine songs on that CD without that long drag.
