Anyone else noticed a similarity between Richie Faulkner & Jax from Sons Of Anarchy?

A little something that I found on Metal Hammer.

Q: On YouTube, there are videos of you playing HENDRIX and ZEPPELIN riffs. Do you bring that sort of style to JUDAS PRIEST?

Faulkner: I came from that sort of era, yeah. That classic rock, ZEPPELIN, HENDRIX and all of that. I think [former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist] K.K.’s [Kenneth Downing] playing was Hendrix-inspired as well so that’s kind of similar there. What it feels like to be a part of it? You can imagine it’s a bit kind of surreal really. But as a fan of the band and of the genre, they are big shoes to fill and I know what I’ve got to do. Ken was in the band for a long time so I’m not trying to take away anything from that but as a fan and as part of the band now, it’s exciting as a guitar player and as a musician.

Q: Was it difficult learning any of PRIEST’s songs?

Faulkner: I knew some of them already, to be honest, and it’s kind of where I come from musically. So it wasn’t difficult in a sense — that’s what I’ve been brought up on and raised on. The ones I didn’t know it was quite easy to go in.

I saw Priest in Wolverhampton last night, they were great and so was Richie!!
He has fitted in very well and his solos were top notch...He also did his his bit in getting the crowd going, i could tell he enjoyed every minute of the show.

no complaints from me.

From the Sony JP fan survey: We were particularly pleased to see how passionate and enthusiastic you all were about new guitarist Richie Faulkner. We know he's been going down a storm at recent shows, but it was great to hear it directly from you, the fans & you can be sure we'll share this with him & the rest of the band. HELL YEAH RICHIE!! It's official - YOU ROCK

Saw them at Manchester last week and was impressed. A very up front performance looked like he was enjoying it & as if he'd always been there.

"It's my job now to keep the band going, and make sure it's not a farewell tour."

The words of Richie Faulkner.

[.] Wednesday, June 29, 2011 2:44:15 PM
Richie is a mean guitar player.
And he has balls: taking over from KK is a risky decision that can make or break his career. I think he's doing great and we'll get to hear more of him as himself, rather than KK's replacement.

If I knew how to play guitar I would give my right nut to be in Priest.

Richie is doing great on stage according to YouTube vids. I'd like to thank him for saving JP's ass to keep Epitaph tour going!
If it wasn't for him, JP most likely would have had to pay fines for cancellations. That would have affected KK financially to keep his golf course.

Hallelujah Bev!!!! I'm SO glad to hear that you have had a change of opinion on this. Maybe it was seeing Rob the night the announcement was made - I could just see it in his eyes that he was devastated. But I knew that the guys tried everything and that this was not how they wanted it to be. Check out Richie on YouTube, he is REALLY GREAT!! And he is a great guy too. Check out his fan page on FaceBook - he posts some great stuff! He isn't KK and he never will be and I don't think he is trying to be KK either. I think after some time, you will see that he fits right in.

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL HAMMOND AND DEEEEEEETROIT!!! I see a fifth of Patron in your future!  And then a 'Rita falls in mine!

Too funny ... the first person I thought of was Iommi - lol  Then I thought of RoyZ ... MetalMike.  But no one really fit the part.  And to be honest, when I first saw the pic of Faulkner on the site I thought it was a joke!  I mean look at it.  He couldn't look more like MIchael Jackson?! I thought WTF?  Someone's really hacked the place!  Need a new pick of Richie guys.  It doesn't do him justice ... at all!

"Finding Richie Faulkner" - more from Metal Hammer, July 2011:

ROB - "I went through something similar to him (KK) in quitting the band. I believe that he would want us to continue. It's the way I felt about Priest when I departed - I felt they should replace me & I'm certain that's how KK will now be feeling."

GLENN - "There are so many pals we could have called to do this. But that would have been the wrong move."

IAN - "You can just imagine what people would have said if we'd have gotten someone like Tony Iommi to help us out. 'Oh, it's Judas Sabbath now. How many Black Sabbath songs will be in the set?' We had to go for someone who'd be part of this band & not merely a guest helping us out."

RICHIE - "The first I knew of it was when I got a call out of the blue from Priest's management, inviting me to come & meet the guys. I thought it was a joke & told them to f..k  off!"

GLENN - "We started by emailing him, but he ignored that. However, as soon as we met Richie, we knew this was the man for us. It was important he got on with all four members, as people as well as being a really good guitarist - & it worked on every level. I said to him that any time he needed some help musically, just give me a call. But he's ended up showing me thing!"

RICHIE - "I was nine or ten when that (Painkiller) came out & it immediately made me a fan of the band. I worked back from there. When I got this job, I went straight to reacquaint myself with their albums. What I want to make sure I do is keep the essence of what KK did, but not just mimic him. that would be daft. You know, I still can't believe I've been given this opportunity. I am determined not to let anyone down."

IAN - "We lived with this (scepticism) when Ripper was in the band. Things started off with a lot of fans chanting for Rob, but slowly Ripper won them over. I think the same thing will happen here. Once people see how good he is they'll accept Richie."

GLENN - "He's the right age for this job. If he were ten years younger, then he'd be a little too inexperienced to cope. If he were ten years older, then the fear would be he'd be too set in his ways. Right now, I can't wait to get onstage & show what we can do. He's given Judas Priest a real shot in the arm."
[\~AuntieB~/] Saturday, June 25, 2011 7:07:05 AM
You know, Hellrider, I thought just the opposite.  My thinking was that KK had played so many years with the band that by picking a relative newcomer was the ulitmate diss.  My thinking was they should have filled the spot with someone of equal longevity, etc., which would give credit to Ken's legacy.  But now, having read more of the personal comments from the guys, I'm thinking I've been incredibly bullheaded about my thinking.  And since KK waited 'til the 11th hour to let his friends know he wouldn't be touring with them they were indeed left in a lurch about what to do.  By that time, even their old friends would have had tour schedules of their own to fulfill.  It's a good thing the network is tight, with regard to who knows who, eh.

Anyway.  I'm gonna go listen / watch some vids fans have posted around the web.  See if I can gain some respect for Richie.  He is due some respect.

Afterall, and at the end  of the day, Ken let us down, whether he meant to or not, deserves to or not, he did.

Just saw him playing two days ago.
Really not too bad. Is difficult to substitute KK but at last he is a very good guitar player and I'm sure that at the end of the tour all of us will love him.
[.] Sunday, June 12, 2011 2:09:30 PM
Yes, I know what you mean but enjoy that change. I think it's for the better, to keep them fresh. They're songs to be played live and not a monolithic structure. Even priests at catholic mass tend to alter their sermons to fit the occasion.
And I also know what you mean by travelling long distances and all that it implies in cost and time, especially because our parents don't pay for our shit any more. I hope you get to go one more time for good measure, though.
I was never as lucky to have seen them as often as you or many others, but I've seen them twice. The third and probably last, I want it to be the best experience! Don't like living in the past.

Being more stable these days makes me confident I'll attend one of their shows and I'll rock and headbang. Just to be sure to have something to complain about three days later, like neck pain or constant nosebleeds for 3 months.

For anyone on FaceBook or Twitter, Richie does both. His FaceBook fan page is very cool - he posts pictures of backstage things as well as what is going on. He seems like a really great guy and he loves to interact with the fans! Check it out!!
[Budred] Saturday, June 11, 2011 7:29:11 AM
I'll go if they hit this area I just don't see myself paying alot of money for travel. I still love Priest and I can deal
with KK being gone and if they do a new album with Richie then they can change the sound. I just don't like the
old songs being changed. If I must miss them I'm happy with the fact that I've had the opportunity to see them as
often as I have.
[.] Saturday, June 11, 2011 7:03:33 AM
There is nothing for you to get ripped about. The new guitarist can't possibly weaken their sound: Glenn Tipton has tight reins on what Faulkner can do, and it's really early to base your decision to buy the tickets on how Richie sounds. I recommend you go, if your life allows it. I don't think you'll have many other chances at seeing them play again in the US.
I'd be delighted to have KK back but sadly, he chose not to be around.

[Budred] Saturday, June 11, 2011 6:11:24 AM
I'll probably get ripped for this but I'll put it out there anyway.
Two nights ago I went to ticketmaster with plans of ordering tickets for Detroit and Chicago.
I saw Chicago was G.A. so I decided to check Detroit to see if any decent seats were left. I had
two picked and was ready to order when I decided to wait and watch the Youtube videos one more time
to make sure that this is something I want to do. I listened to four songs and even though they
sound OK, to me it sounds like Ritchie is weakening their sound. Some of the crunch and heaviness
is being replaced by flash. It's really taking my enthusiasm for seeing them away. I do hope they hit
Pittsburgh or Cleveland and I will go if they do but I can't travel and pay upwards of a thousand dollars
for a roadtrip that I don't think will be that good.
 Go ahead, rip away.
