Dating myself a little, but saw Priest headline over Iron Maiden at the Hammersmith Odeon on the original "British
Steel" tour. Maiden didn't even have their 1st album out yet. Awesome stuff!!!

Must have been the Joe Perry Project, there in San Diego.
I would have remembered the others, and the show would have been sold out...
Thank You

It depends on which show you were at...there were the Scorps, Joe Perry Project, Heart and Def Leppaerd at different times...maybe more than this...hope it helps!!

Does anyone know?
[joedraper] Wednesday, May 13, 2009 3:57:35 PM
I wish! Well, I'd have been under a year old at the time lol! But to be there would've been so incredible.. I love hearing about the tours from way back when, like it's an adventure trip down memory lane for some lol.

no i couldn't tell you that- it was only the 2nd time i had seen them live- 1st time palladium and i had never gotten front row tix before- i think i paid like $150 back then to get those 2 seats which considering $13.50 was face value it was a lot of money.i was so excited to be there takin pics with my little 126?? camera lol. my heart was pounding the whole night lol. i used the same guy for quite a few years whenever i needed seats and he always knew when they were coming that i would be an easy sale :-).  great memories -can't wait for this what was the song?

defiantely one of my favorite tours- had front row at nassau colliseum and 2nd row at the garden. fans were crazy... girl at nassau got her finger hit by fireworks right next to us- she got taken away over the barrier- we were terrified from that point on but stayed anyway lol couldnt miss the show. the garden was hillarious. went to meadowlands, binghampton and bethlehem that year too- cant wait for this tour!

[Necroticist] Friday, May 08, 2009 7:12:25 PM
In '80? yes - if ya count 'monsters of rock festival' - only band never to make the album...sad management probs.....awesome show - almost as good as Hammermith Odeon in '81...which i have a nice bootleg of :D
[MARK IN THE DARK] Friday, May 08, 2009 7:06:57 PM
hey atsau1 yea it was the nassu col. then and it was dangerous too. people were flipping out all around me. its not like that today.herein n.y. anyway. i always buy tickets last min and seem to get very good seats.just get floor seats .dress in code of 80s .leather vest snake boots etc. and it seems the ushers let me anywhere. jones beach that is.get there early keep it in red solo cups and the cops dont care. but what a mellow crowd today.ozzy is the only one i saw who everyone was standing up.somewhere i might still have a recording with firewoks in backround i snuck a small recorder in the show .it sounded shitty but what the hell .gonna go nuts looking for it. if i find ill let you know..5th row on glen side last year got kicked out for standing in isle.then walked over to kk side 2ed row my original tickit was like 26 rows back. cool huh? i did the same thing at ozzfest and velet revolver. works every time.
[ATSAU1] Friday, May 08, 2009 5:48:28 PM
Mark that had to be Nassau Coliesum ...I saw Priest twice i that tour ..... The Garden and The Meadowlands....I think it was called Brendan Byrne Arena back then..... The Garden show had No Fireworks.....but the seats....It looked like a friggin snow storm.... I remember Ron Halford had to go on MTV and apologize and tell promoters that this doesnt happen at all Priest shows it was just an isolated instance......2 days Later the Garden had Billy Joel for 6 nights in a row and the couldnt repair the seats in time..... There were some pissed off Billy Joel fans...heheheheheheh

We're All Defenders Of The Faith!!!!!
[MARK IN THE DARK] Friday, May 08, 2009 4:34:52 AM
yea on 2 hits of purple double barrel too. do you remember fireworks or was that at nassau col.? that was really bad.i thought i was gonna go to hell. but i was loving it at the same time .
[ATSAU1] Friday, May 08, 2009 4:27:06 AM
Hey Mark,

I was at the Garden that night.......holy cow was that unbelivable ,  The Band had to finish Hell Bent For Leather  on top of the speakers.... you could no longer see the motorcycle on stage cuz of all the seat cushions..... That was a hell of a show!!!!
[MARK IN THE DARK] Friday, May 08, 2009 3:55:12 AM
defenders of the faith nassau col. mad sq garden 1 day later.what a show both were. fights breaking out all over the floor firewoks, i have to admit i was a little spooked blockbusters before show.and at the garden everyone ripped out seat cusions like frisbees piled on stage at least 6 ' high at end. great white open up and got boooooooed off. at least 20 blockbusters went on the floor and went off.people did get hurt. there is no recording of that .more bras n painties than aerosmith and ive seen them 6 times.there is more to tell but im new and dont have a point of entry. did anyone see these shows?                         the crouds are very mellow today . in my area anyway.

[TheElectricEyedRouge] Friday, April 17, 2009 11:18:20 AM
I wish I seen a Judas Priest concert but damn, my parents and my bro watched Rising in the East with my bro and I didn't go when I was younger and they thought that if they played Painkiller (my favorite song ever!! ) it would scare the crap out of me.
Maybe I'll see the 30th Aniversary British Steel concert...  Hopefully or then I'll get em by trying to make a Painkiller sculpture and see how they react. Mwuahahahahahaaaa....

I've been checking out different topics here.  It seems that there are a lot of negative people hanging out!!!   Why would be???
I don't go to the U2 site.  I respect their music, but I don't like it.
I don't go to the Pink Floyd site.  I respect their music, but I don't like most of it.
From what I can tell... This is suppose to be a site for the fans.  Not anything like a political site, where everyone should have a say in the matter.
If you don't like Judas Priest... I respect that....  Don't listen to them...  And don't tell me about it... I got enough of that from my parents...30 years ago!
[Lisa Samarron] Tuesday, April 14, 2009 1:55:41 AM
One thing I knew for sure, after that first British Steel Show, was that Judas Priest was gonna was gonna be a huge hit.   Their energy is contagious. Their proformance is tight.  Their music is kick ass.
[Jeanine] Sunday, April 12, 2009 10:01:30 PM
Lisa, thank you for sharing your experience. My first tour was Defenders of the Faith. 1984. I first fell in love with them when Screaming came out but Mom wouldn't let me go to the show  can't wait to see them this summer.
[mgdman] Sunday, April 12, 2009 8:55:37 PM
Great story Lisa! I don't know if they came into the area
I was in that year (1980). Fresno CA. was still a small market
at that time. I did see them in 82' which you
know was Screamin for Vengenance tour!!
[Lisa Samarron] Sunday, April 12, 2009 3:02:31 PM
The set list That was 30 years, many bottles of Jack Daniels, and many brain cells ago  Not to mention, I have seen Judas Priest many time.
I do remember they played Victim of Changes, The Ripper, Sinner, all the main songs from Hell Bent and British Steel.  I want to say they did Beyond The Realms Of Death, I'm sure I've seen that one live once.
Maybe Brirose can remember some, he was there too.
[Vaillant 3.0] Saturday, April 11, 2009 11:42:13 PM
Sounds like you had a great time, Lisa!! Too bad I wasn't around back then. What was the setlist?

What a trip.. Coming across someone that was at that same show.
Can you believe it's been 30 years???
Do you remember who opened up for Priest?

My sister has already purchased 4 tickets for the Aug show. She got section DD.  That show in 1980 I was in section AA.
I now live in Humboldt County, California, which is 800 miles from San Diego.   I'm going to do my best to get my butt down there.

Last time I saw Priest was at 4th & B.  Scott (The Ripper) was the singer at that time.

That was fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could see them once in my life......I'm 18 years old.
[Lisa Samarron] Saturday, April 04, 2009 2:29:32 AM
The date was Sunday June 15 1980. San Diego State Open Air Theater.
It was my first Priest show. I was 17 years old.
The show was not even close to being sold out. After the first song, Rob looked out at us. He could see our excitement, our love of the music. He looked at wooded barrier between us and the band. I remember him looking up at us, looking down at the barrier a couple times. He then said something about it being a party, why the gap? I remember the bouncers looking like "WTF". We then closed the gap. I found myself a place kneeling on that wooden barrier.
I loved Priest's music before that show.. I loved Priest by the end of the show...
The following year... Priest's show was sold out... The crowd outside wanted in so bad they broke down the gates. (Stupid move in my book) The show was cut short.
I remember the news said that Priest was never allowed back at SDSU... Never Say Never
Priest will be back at SDSU this August. I now live in Humboldt County, CA, 800 miles north of San Diego.
Sure I could catch British Steel 30th tour up north here somewhere.
I want to be there, in San Diego!!!
I will be there!!!!

Thank You Priest,
Lisa Samarron
