Black Sabbath are three great and different bands to me!

You got Ozzy, Dio and Tony Martin - I don't compare. I just don't like it when Tony Martin sang or Dio sings Ozzy songs - that doesn't work for me.
[jimmyjames] Friday, September 12, 2008 12:52:32 AM
I reckon sabbath with dio are good, just think of it as a different band, the heaven and hell and mob rules albums are class ( haven't heard dehumaniser ), last year they toured down under as heaven and hell and put on a wicked show in auckland, dios got one of the best voices in metal.
[Priest fan down under] Friday, September 12, 2008 12:31:39 AM
heaven and hell was good but the rest was pretty so so.

Yea, kinda like play and collect a check? Usless drum and guitar solos. And had they shortened-up the song heaven and hell (normal- 6:58/ live-15 min.) We would have got to hear at least neon knights? I like them, and their music but they just seemed to be going through the motions. If they can't fit a 3:53min. song into that setlist?   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Maple Syrup from Monday, August 11, 2008 1:42:51 PM)

personaly, even if they are headlining a long solo by anyone is a waste.  saw zach do a 10 min solo with ozzy, could take a nap.  even the best solo ever neil pert on drums with rush, while amazing is still not as good as another song tossed into the mix.  slows the whole thing down for the fans.

I loved them on the full set tour, could be tired?

I just saw H&H with Priest at PNC, NJ on the Metal Masters tour. Here's a question for all the H&H fans:

If you have a 45-50 min. slot as the warmup, why the Hell do we have Vinnie Appice doing a drum solo and Iommi also doing a guitar solo. Should'nt H&H be packing as many songs into the set? I think they did 9 songs.. Without the solos it could have been an extra 3 songs. Am I missing something? Also, they did not play Neon Nights... WTF?

To me, they seemed a little too comfortable / and were not showing enough to get it exciting. Sort of Ho Hum lets get it over with. Sorry I was not impressed with them, although I heard their full-set tour was very good. Rating 5 out of 10.

Maybe pull out some Dio or Rainbow tunes to liven it up or play the faster Sabbath songs. Something was missing from H&H the other night, thats for sure...
[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Monday, August 11, 2008 3:59:11 AM
Neon Knights is the first track on 1980's Heaven & Hell.  The other two Dio-era Black Sabbath studio albums are Mob Rules and Dehumanizer (which is just so freaking underrated).

The track Wishing Well is an overlooked Dio era classic and one of their most overlooked compositions.. this one really brings the Heaven & Hell opus alive.
[crypticangle] Monday, August 11, 2008 2:33:43 AM
I liked the songs from Heaven N Hell but RJD kinda just stood there on the stage --didn't move around too much but he has a great voice.
[ron h] Sunday, August 10, 2008 4:29:05 PM
Heaven and Hell as well as Neon Knights are two awesome albums and arguably some of the best work Sabbath has put on vinyl (imho)!!!

I saw Heaven and Hell at Nissan Pavillion last Thursday abd Dio just has ZERO stage presence!  Iommi was a guitar GOD, as always.  Dio has a great voice, and I enjoy listening to him, although his lyrics don't make any sense most of the time; I don't enjoy seeing him.
Just my opinion.
(ps.  Priest kicked ass.  Halford was not quite as energetic as in years past but we are all getting older, right?  His voice was great.)

I have to say that I am a Huge fan of R.J.Dio, but I still think that he does it much better in DIO than in Black Sabbath. Im not saying that he did terrible in Sabbath, I just think he did/does it better in DIO
[allegiance] Sunday, August 03, 2008 2:54:20 AM
Ive Seen Heaven and Hell twice now, (soon to be 3 times)
Although Tony Iommi is a mythical guitar creature, The best concert ever for me so far is still DIO/Anthrax

Im waiting for Ronnie to get tired of H&H and tour as DIO again
[metaldog] Friday, July 25, 2008 9:59:45 PM
I saw the Heaven and Hell tour at the Capital Centre, near DC, and Dio just could NOT hold up his part...Ozzy might screw up the lyrics now and again but his ENERGY just cannot be topped by anyone (except maybe Halford, but it's a different. kind of energy..).  For those of you who have seen them both (Ozzy and Halford) you should know what I mean...
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Friday, July 25, 2008 3:08:37 AM
I agree but at the same time, man Heaven and hell, though corny in some spots, is one of greatest albums of all time. Just so kick ass, thats one thing i have to say Ozzy is the fucking man, no one will ever take away how kick ass he is, but Dio is well... just way way better of a singer. The only singer that hasnt stressed his voice over the years and is actually better then he used to be.  Black sabbath can never deny Ozzy though, and if a new album came out, id like to see ozzy do it. Although it would be pretty kick ass, if they both did it!
[metaldog] Thursday, July 24, 2008 5:37:27 PM
Iommi's guitar is most awesome.  Dio has a nice voice but he's sort of twerpy-looking and his lyrics SUCK!  He just seems to put together whatever rhymes at the time.  Sabbath will always be OZZY!  Ozzy is a short fellow but his energy just makes the audience come alive!
[imdpriest] Tuesday, July 22, 2008 10:13:40 PM
Dio era definitely!! Heaven & Hell, Mob Rule, Neon Knight. But Ozzy's Paranoid still best
[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Thursday, July 17, 2008 5:42:25 AM

Sabbath with Dio is simply put: awesome!  I think Ronnie himself said before in an interview that he can write how he wants to in Sabbath.  I'd have to agree with him too.  Nothing against Dio's solo work or any of the stuff with Rainbow (never heard any of Elf so I can't comment on that), but the stuff he wrote in Black Sabbath easily puts everything he did as a solo artist to shame - save for maybe 5 or 6 songs.

Also, regarding the "Dio Years" box set, I really like the slow, plodding, power metal style they employed.  Great headbanging material.

[K2M] Wednesday, July 09, 2008 12:30:50 PM
I amp out the same to BLACK SABBATH & JUDAS PRIEST.    SABBATH IS KILLER.    TONY roams the stage with the riffs of life. GEEZER lays down the deepest bottom ground swell for the empending metal impact and mass musical devistation.  RONNIE breaks the law with an Epic life description

No way, Troubleshooter.  Black Sabbath/HnH is absolutely fucking awesome in their own right!  RJD's songwriting put the Black back into Sabbath after 1978's Never Say Die and Technical Ecstasty.  Great music was written and performed by that particular lineup...Mob Rules, Heaven And Hell, Sign Of The Southern Cross, Neon Knights, Time Machine.  The shitty radio stations in Philadelphia gives Sabbath a major shafting if the songs aren't War Pigs, NIB, Paranoid, and Iron Man and therefore, the fans knowledge of the overall body of work is sorely lacking, lest you go searching out black sabbath songs on  Don't get me wrong, if they ain't your cup of tea or they don't measure up to the best band in the universe (that would be Judas Priest), that's cool but they damn sure ain't no warm up band.

Ronnie James Dio showed that there was life after Ozzy in the Black Sabbath camp. IMO, every studio album Black Sabbath did with Dio was flawless.

Sabbath, whether with Ronnie or Ozzy, are totally awesome! It's just the two line-ups have a different sound and vibe.
I love both!!

IMO that whole Heaven and Hell story schtick RJD does live needs to go was tedious during the Mod Rules tour in 1982 and is just as tedious now.
