|I agree Tezcatlipoca. Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Led Zep are not metal. Rock/Hard Rock? Sure. But most certainly not metal. Van Halen isn't metal either, and Kiss made a few metal albums in the 80's and one in the 90's. |

First define THE HEAVY METAL, BECAUSE SOME OF YOU HAVE BANDS OF ROCK, HARD ROCK, SPEED METAL, TRASH METAL, EVEN BLACK METAL, ON HIS LIST, DEFINE YOURSELFS HEAVY, AND THEN CREATE YOUR LIST, WELL, IS THAT I THINK

|1- Judas Priest - There can only be one metal god. They took metal and steered it in the next direction. Most bands to follow could just copied, and spice it up with their own sound.|
2- Iron Maiden - A very close second, but sounds so different. A war story,a horror story, a slasher in the night. It all works. BRAVO Steve Harris. Up the irons lads.
3- Queensryche - American made metal with a strong voice.
4- Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore period... A perfectionist when it comes to music.
5- Dio - Some say he's in his early to mid sixties \m/ \m/. Hope rob's still around when he's sixty.
6- Megadeth - Never sold out, like some guys he used to play with...
7- Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell/Ozzy, all from the same clothe. The birth of metal.
8- AC/DC - Angus Young. Few bands have this type of sound. And their from our friends down-under, thanks mate.
9- Scorpions - Some sounds never get old.
10-Deep Purple - Ritchie Blackmore period...
After the first two there isn't much order...
I'm sure i missed a band or two that i'd rather put on my list, but this is off the top of my head. And if i did .
Def Leppard would have made my list, the early stuff anyway, but they are the biggest sellouts. In my opinion when they hit the scene, they took the world by storm opening up for such acts as Judas Priest. I remember hearing/seeing them and thinking, what a new sound and so crisp and edgy. I loved it... Then they self destructed. Then regrouped and became bon-blow-me.
